Thanks =) I really miss that car, it was so fun to just rip around in, and I didn't get into too much trouble with it. I'm excited that I'm finally starting to mod the STi myself, kind of make it my own.. I have plans to eventually get some whiteline sway bars (after I swap the struts/springs), and then clean-up/re-do the audio. I'd like to imitate Waller's setup. I also have plans (once I have some spare time) to do the "free seat mod", but I wanted to find someone local who's done it, and see what they thought.

I'm picking up Hurricane's tmw. If I was ordering, I would've gone with the prodrive STi pinks.

Put an 06/07 (Pink/silver) STi badge onto the front grill yesterday. Also broke down and eBayed a pink "I" badge. Also replaced the black trim on the drivers side in front of the rear tire (fell on in a car wash) you can see one of the mounting holes in one of the new pics up a few posts.

Est delivery date on my TT order: April 15th.

I want to put a huge thank you in here for Chris, for putting up with my excitement, being extremely helpful, and an all around great guy. If he was on the right side of the country, I would definitely love to meet him in person, and I would sport Touge Tuning stickers any day of the week.

+1 for Touge Tuning and +1 for Chris.

Installed the springs this weekend thanks to some of my friends, as well as some members on here, including Dekay, Saar, and Waller. All very helpful. Props to them! Saar also installed my rear strut bar.

Did the "free" seat mod this morning as well.

I actually like the ride with the springs in, it's stiffer, but gives less "bobblehead" I haven't had much of a chance to really see how it will do (only done ~20km's of driving, all short distance).

I absolutely love the "free seat mod". Took ~30 mins to do both seats, and was really easy. The difference is amazing. Seats are way comfier, hold me much better, and make the bobble head even less apparent. Even my GF likes it more.

Hoping that all the Touge Tuning stuff will show this week, so that I can get it all installed next weekend. Also booked in with GlennC this Wednesday, to rearrange the audio setup for me.

I'm getting the amps mounted under the seats instead of the trunk, and having the momo/polks installed in my front doors. I'm imitating Waller's setup, and will probably be replacing the subwoofer amp soon as well.

Very excited to see how different this car will be by this time next week.

Done and done. Got all the bushings in, including the klunk killer, and the steering bushings.
I have to say, I really like the steering bushings, but I also must ad, that I never want to do them again.

Car goes in for an alignment on Thursday w/ a fellow member. I'm *attempting* to get some camber bolts before then, but if not, -shrug-.

Also trying to find some koni/tokico struts, and some whiteline bars, but unless I can get them really cheap, I'll be holding off for now.

I must say: I love my car.

PS: Also ordered some vinyl stickers on the GB going on.

Cool to read the specs before I actually see it.

Did you drop the rack down by removing the steering shaft u joint ? I would hate to do them any other way.

Anyways see you thursday, I may pull my camber bolts out of the front on Monday night before I do my alignment, if they do come out they're yours. I'd like
to see what kind of camber I can get with the stock eccentrics and being slightly lower.

I actually couldn't figure out a way TO drop the rack to be honest. I just unbolted the brackets, moved them outta the way, peeled the old ones off, then 3 of us took turns wedging the new ones in (passenger side was a piece of cake).

I did however follow the seatbelt through the steering wheel advice.. just in case. ;D

Put the GB stickers on tonight. I also have a Colin Mcrae one, but I don't know where to put it. The beyond/claw and WSC stickers were already there. I also have the turbo/garment sticker that was passed around the meet, but I don't know where to put that one either.

If you have any suggestions, let me know!

Clutch slipping. New clutch installed!
« Reply #21 on: June 09, 2009, 07:51:25 am »
Thanks for taking a look. Well my clutch is disappointing me. I was driving down Crowchild Tr, and went to speed up a little in 5th, and I started to rev and not go anywhere. Now I checked if my foot was resting on the pedal, as it's a bad habit I picked up, and I've been working on it, and this time around, I wasn't resting my foot on it. I slowed down a little, downshifted, and it grabbed fine. I shifted back to 5th, and it slipped, and it stunk.

I have an ACT Streetlite + Stage 1 Exedy organic.

I Pm'ed Jonny to ask when it was done, but I don't think he's conscious yet, and if he is, then he just might not be near a computer.

Now I know that I had a little bit of a time getting used to this clutch, and I did do a secret street @ RC, doing 3 launches (1 bog, 1 slip and 1 spinning tires in "open" DCCD). And it's been slipped before a time or two by other people driving it, and not getting used to it. And I slipped a little almost every time, pulling into driveways when I first bought the car. I don't think there's that much mileage on the clutch, but until Jonny replies, I don't know for sure. So my question is could the clutch be fine, and just be glazed? Is there any way to extend the life of this thing without replacing it? And if it needs to be replaced, can I just get the Streetlite flywheel resurfaced? And go with something a little beefier, like a stage 2/3? Maybe an ACT?

Thanks guys
LDS

UPDATE:
So I went out with Way-do, and with his help, found out the Master clutch cylinder was loose on the firewall. Readjusted the clutch pedal. Couldn't really find anything else wrong.

We think it might be my master clutch cylinder is toast, as in a ripped seal or something, and I think I may have done it while bleeding the clutch (when I installed my SS clutch line). I'd like to ask for a second opinion, hopefully from a professional, or at least someone with more knowledge then me, but I don't want to take it to the dealership.. The weird thing is that the cylinder doesn't seem to leak or anything, and since the clutch pedal seems to directly operate the piston, I don't understand how it could get stuck.

UPDATE 2:
Replaced the master/slave cylinders. Initally looked good, with less slipping, but over the past few days, it's gotten as bad as before. I'm going to try and bleed it again, hoping that maybe just driving pushed some bubbles to the top or something.

Interesting. I hate to say. but from my experiences with Exedy clutches, it should still be holding up fine. I bet the flywheel is glazing up, and the clutch can't get a good hold. My recomendation would be to get a stock flywheel and see how it does for you. Granted, for the effort to change it, a new clutch would be a good idea as well.

One of my good friends autocrosses his Prelude, and had the same issue, with a stage 2 clutch on a lightweight flywheel. Went to a stage 1 exedy and oem flywheel, and all problems solved, plus he started beating the STX class WRXs he was classed with.

I really like the lightweight flywheel. I would much prefer just resurfacing it, if I could get away with it. I've never had to do any kind of clutch work before..

If you've been resting your foot on the clutch pedal, chances are you've ruined it.  Why in the world would you be doing that?  Probably the worst habit to form in a MT.

Even a slight amount of pressure could be causing the clutch to be in a state where its slipping without you even knowing it.  Tough lesson to learn  :(
