ORLY?  I have a 164 Timeless as well!  It's a little flexier than I would like, but I could also stand to lose some weight.
Bindings are Drake Podiums [worst straps evar]
Boots are new Thirtytwo Primes
New Oakley Wisdom goggles
A helmet of some description

I'm stoked to get out this season.  Last season was horrible for me, I only made it out for three days.  :(  I hope I get some pow this winter, as it's pretty much the only reason I ride anymore.  Cruising busy groomers just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I'd say the easy runs on the mountains (sunshine or louise - probably the latter) would be good for learning.  I learned at Canyon in Red Deer, by the time you are getting the hang of it, you are at the bottom and have to wait in line and then chair to the top again and start over.

My Timeless is quite stiff actually.  It's more of a powder board me thinks.

Forgot to mention that I bought new Flow bindings last year.  I also have Oaklyey Wisdom goggles.  I'm gonna buy some new Flow boots this year to go with my bindings.  My old Forum Peter Line boots are too wide.

No helmet as of yet, but I may consider it.

(http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w221/flipincanadian/prophet_90_zm.gif) Line Prophet 90's with  some Dynastar Px12 jib bindings.

I cant wait to back on the slopes, i can only hope this season is as good as last year.  If you guys haven't checked out the new mountain in Revelstoke make it priority #1.  Revy and Fernie made my season last year and i can't wait to get back to both of them.  We also hit up kicking horse and neither the snow or terrain as nearly as good as Revy or Fernie!

Thats awesome, we were there really late season so we didn't really get freshies except at the very top early in the morning.  In the afternoon we were ridding in hoodies.  The groomers were AWESOME, i have never ridden such rolling flowy groomed runs, it was great!

Don't make that kind of offer - you never know who might show up!  [BTW, I don't snore and I always buy booze for the host. :D]

The last time I was at Whitewater, we got caught by the Pineapple Express.  It barfed snow until noon, then started to get really warm and then rain.  Everybody was hitting the big chair on the other side of the valley, so I rocked the kiddie chair all day, hitting rollers and dodging trees in the sweet pow.  By 3:00 I was done and done.  Into the lounge for some cheap assay pints!

If there's a WSC trip to the Interior, we'd also have to hit Red Mountain.  The first 2 trips there, I didn't even make it off of Paradise [except to hit Beer Belly - "Watch out for the cabin!  Oh no!"].  Run after run in the trees - all powder, all the time.  The last few trips I've been able to spend more time on Granite, which has some awesome terrain.

In the same area, we try to hit the cat-boarding for a couple of days.  My favourite op is Valhalla Powdercats - so much fun, so much pow, such tight trees!  It's always funny to watch the skiers hammer through the snow, fighting all the way.  Then the 'boarders drop in and we just flow.  The tele dudes make the rest of us look like flailing tools with their grace.  It's such a good time, totally worth the $300/day.

Other places...  Fernie is good, but it takes some luck to score untracked on the weekends.  In the old days, you just had to be willing to endure the Face Lift to get to Snake [or whatever else is on rider's left] and then you were good.  Ditto for Siberia.  Lola knows someplace called the Sneaky Trees that I can't identify based on her description, so maybe I'll get her to show me.  Kimberley can be awesome, but it can also suck.  If they have snow, you can just ride the Easter chair all fargin' day, then go to your condo and chug-a-lug the night away.  KHMR can be good, but I've been skunked a couple of times by their gondola.  Without that, it's about as fun as Wintergreen.  They need another lift on the Terminator side of CPR ridge AND something in Feuz bowl.  It's clogged with Calgarians on the weekends now, so I am going to try and hit it mid-week when there is nobody around.

What else?  Castle - go on a Wednesday, never on the weekend.  Cloudshine - Delerium is good if it's open and there's enough snow to cover the rocks, otherwise it's zero vis, hot laps and douchebags all damn day [okay, Side Door and Back Door are good too].  Nakiska - I've had some amazing days [St. Patrick's Day Massacre!], and it's fun in the spring when the groomers get all soft and gougable.  Le Lac - she's treated me well, but with tix in the $80 range and no Eagle chair [uckfayers!], I'll drive the extra 60 minutes to Golden or Fernie [maybe even Pano].

What I'm REALLY excited about is Revelstoke.  4 hour drive from Calgary keeps the gapers away.  Vert, vert and more vert.  It's cold = more snow, less rain.  I rode their cat operation two years ago before they reno'd the whole mountain.  Most of the stuff we hit is now in-uckfaying-bounds!!!  I didn't make it back this past season, but I'll make it out there or burst this winter.  Watch out for tree wells - they are deeeeeeeep.

i'll try to get info on the KHMR "local" opener 8) absolutely dead just the locs and friends.
as far as revelstoke goes its going to be packed this year i have a feeling, its the next mountain to be at. apparently by the time they are done they'll have more lifts than whistler and have more of a town at the base or something like that...

I am soooo down. Anyone know where to buy Palmer boards sides ordering them off the net ?

Also for you 2 plankers on here. Most boarders are kewl with it these days I have seen some rockin 2 plankers in Louise past cpl years throwing down some sick itshay off a 80 foot table , so its all good.  I just love to watch that itshay cuz my days of throwing down are over I just like to keep it flowing and in the steep and deep.  Few huge lofty airs here and there but nothing technical anymore.

Cheers Guys.

awsome response to this thread!!!!.... I think we defintely need to get a WSC boarding crew together...  skiiers can come too, but they gotta buy the first round of beers  ;D

I would be definitely down to hit up Red Mountain. Its been on my list for 2 yrs now. I just could never get anyone to do the big drive down there.  Sun Peaks out in Kamloops is a super fun spot too. I was there for 2 days and didnt really even get to a 1/4 of the runs.  Its very well covered with lifts so there are tonnes of runs to hit up.

I work at a ski doo dealership so I have a 2009  Ski Doo summit 800 x 154, with 2 snowboard racks and a 4x4 truck ;D ;D ;D
I also have a sunshine pass and many snowboards, I just got a Never Summer premier F1 163 for my birthday on tuesday, I also have an arsenal of beaten up rock boards, which include a burton t6 165, a never summer decade 164, and a never summer premier 165 and a salomon definition 165.
We are going to "the shine" on sunday, and next sunday I'm going to Quarts creek sledding near golden, I'll post some pics from the sled trip when I get back.
If anybody on here has a sled, and can really ride and has all their avi gear, we can basically have waist deep powder all winter long. If you up for tandeming and are crazy, I have a few spots a quartz(golden) and boulder(revelstoke) that we will get over 100 powder turns in a row without even crossing another track.
Sled + snow + board + free heliskiing(kinda)

Checking the weather, snowpack data for Fernie has it tracking along the historical minimum line.  This is not good.  http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/rfc/river_forecast/graphs/spd2c09q.html (http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/rfc/river_forecast/graphs/spd2c09q.html)

Kickinghorse is doing much better, with solid coverage for this time of year and more snow in the forecast.  Revy needs more base - they're supposed to open in 10 days.  Cloudshine and Le Lac are both getting snow.

my friend went to LL the other day and he said it was crap.. and i dont think they will get enough snow this week to make it any better. its only got one real run open, and loads of grass showing..

id stick to sunshine for the next few weeks..

Yeah I know I have been checking the snow reports. I know it is not ideal, but I don't think what is open at Sunshine is much better. No Angel or Goat's eye. I will be skiing with my girl friend who is a intermediate, we will see. If Louise is really bad on Sunday, we might go to Sunshine on Sunday.

And I am also staying at the Fairmont in Lake Louise so it is super close.

well angel looks like it should be open any day now. they were grooming it yesterday..

i cant see how you say sunshine isnt much better.. LL only has one run, plus the bunny hill and the rail park.. sunshine has 53 runs open..  even without Angel or goat's eye they are all as good or better than that one run at LL...
and there is no grass showing through!!

Speaking of riding , my board was stolen 2 yrs ago so I have been outta touch with riding.  I was hoping to get a Palmer board this year but they are hard to find anywhere.  Anyone have some good suggestions on a snowboard shop in E-town with some knowledgable and tech savvy peeps to hook me up ?

Free quote bump to myself lol , since most ppl are talking bout Louise.

I dont know much about Palmer gear, but if you want to shop online... these are 2 reputable places I have dealt with.

I've bought a snowboard and lots of gear online before.... worked out really well for me... saved $400 on my Salomon Forecast, got SPX45's for $100, Dialogue boots $100, Relay bindings $125.  All new gear too. If you are buying a complete, you can save a bit on shipping, and if it gets shipped USPS you dont get hit with duty.

I have bought stuff from both of these places in the past few yrs... awsome fast shipping

http://www.evogear.com/shop/snowboard.aspx (http://www.evogear.com/shop/snowboard.aspx) In Seattle... so your stuff gets here faster
http://www.surftheearthsnowboards.com/ (http://www.surftheearthsnowboards.com/)In Vermont I think, so shipping takes maybe 2 days more, but some of their prices are a bit better depending on what you are looking at

good luck

I bought my bindings at Evo gear... great stuff

also try

www.steepandcheap.com (http://www.steepandcheap.com)
www.tramdock.com (http://www.tramdock.com)
www.whiskeymilitia.com (http://www.whiskeymilitia.com)
www.backcountry.com (http://www.backcountry.com) (also try their outlet)

These places can't export everything to Canada, but they have a lsit of what they can and can't so check it out. Not so good anymore with the exchange rate, but still pretty good.

well... just wanting to gauge interest for an outing to sunshine or something.... a little early season shake down to get the legs back, and shake the rust out.

I would be in for that. I am a skier but who really cares. I also think louise would be a better choice

Picked up some Flow Rift boots in Jasper this week.

To compliment my Flow NXT FS bindings I picked up last December.

BTW, I went to Marmot on Friday and the conditions were only ok.  They need a lot more snow.

I hit Silver Star on Friday.  Great snow, Great villiage, but the hill was so-so.  I don't like the run design.  Even though it's supposedly 2000 feet of possible vert, it seems like the runs are so short.  And it seems like you spend half your time chairing and t-baring to get to runs, and then they are over in no time.  There is also to many "Road" runs.  Too much flat.  My favorite hills are Sun Peaks and Fernie so far.
I run a Lib Tech MTX 161 with Flow bindings and Nitro Boots.

If you are referring to the powder gulch express, the map is deceiving.  It shows a black run underneath the chair, which would have you believe that they chair climbs steeply, and that all the runs in that area are somewhat steep.  But it's not the case.  PART of the runs down there are actually steep, and fun in deep snow.  But if you board, it sucks because you have to go flat out through a bunch of stupid flat sections to get to the steep parts.  I understand what you are saying JimmEh...That was the part of the hill I was looking forward to the most.  But in the end, I was disappointed.

aaaah, i thought there was a mid chair unload point (according to the map) so you could skip the flats.

woooo 8 inches of fresh at whitewater. getting ready to go now

I just spent the last week at Whistler / Blackcomb. Man, do they ever need a lot more snow. It was alright with the large amount of snow they got over the past week, but there are still so many rocks and trees where there should not be.

Great to be out riding on holidays, but I just wish there was more snow so I didn't have to ride my rock board.

Plust my gf wrecked her knee on Whistler, so that put a damper on the trip. Oh well, nothing torn so she will be back soon enough on the slopes.

P.S. [rant]What is with people not alternating in lift lines? It drives me nuts. It is so simple to do and makes the lift lines go faster for everyone. It seems like it is the worst at Whistler/Blackcomb too. People there think they are better than you and shouldn't have to wait. Or maybe that is just my jaded view. [/rant]

I was at KHMR yesterday.  Not bad, but it was packed.  When we got there, the line to get lift tickets was about 100 people deep, and stayed that way until well after 10:00 a.m.  I estimate that the line for the gondola was long enough that it would take about an hour to get to the top, maybe more.  Even better, the gondola kept stopping for some reason.

We used the Catamount quad in the morning, then switched to the Pioneer double in the afternoon.  Pioneer actually had untracked pow [if you knew where to look].  Pioneer could be the next Eagle Trees, but it's a little wide-spaced for my liking.  Also, they didn't take out the freeride stunts in some spots!  More than once I found myself on a built berm or ladder bridge.

We left early, and stopped into the Whitetooth Bistro in downtown Golden.  They had Innis & Gunn!  Very nice, quite refreshing and 6.6%.  My wife drove home.  :D

Revy eats KHMR's lunch and steals its milk money to buy booze.

Red Mountain and Whitewater beat the itshay out of KHMR at the bike racks after school.

KHMR wakes up in a bathtub full of ice with a note tied to its wrist, "Valhalla Powdercats has stolen your kidneys."

Discuss.
