Project Turncoat
« on: September 04, 2009, 04:06:21 PM »
As many will know, I am now entirely in the realm of the 'turncoat' having gone to the darkside and bought an Evo X.
As it's an MR and the transmission is relatively unproven past the normal bolt-ons and tune stage, this car will, for now at least, stay relatively plain and simple.
A few bits and bobs will be added over time but I'm going to try and take things slowly and leave it pretty much stock until next spring comes around.

Having said that, it's just had it's first 'mod'....just a tint and 3m job.
Next mod is in the post.....a set of RallyArmor flaps  ;D

The day after purchase:-

Today, after the 3M and tint application:-

As the wife has bought the same bloody car, all bar colour of course, I have a feeling that, with the odd exception, everything that gets done to mine will also end up being done to hers  ::)
With that in mind I see no need to start a 2nd thread  :D

I'm going to attempt to fit the Work Meisters on this car come next spring. I've offered one up already and they just fould the front calipers so I need to work on that one..... they WILL bloody fit though!!!

Just about completed the 1st thousand k's so took it out for a trip to K-country. Oh yeah, and got the RA's on last weekend too.

So I grabbed a couple of cheapo 3mm spacers just to see if the Meisters would fit on the front. It's bloody close and may require a slight chamfer on the caliper edge to gain a couple of mm extra room, but they went on and rotated freely.

How are you liking the dual clutch gearbox?

Winters on now. No real chance to try them out with any vigour yet but time will tell. They were free so I'll give them a go this winter.
Also got around to getting some yellow fog light bulbs. A little more difficult to obtain decent H11 fitment yellows compared to H1's or H3's, but they're in and working nicely :)

Actually I'm really quite liking it. My main gripe is the slight delay between releasing the brake pedal and getting any drive. I've learned to drive around it for the most part though and am otherwise entirely satisified with it :)

Started to get pissed off with the partially pink look of the taillights and the clear centre brake light, so I got them very lightly tinted.
Also decided to do a partial de-badge. Still mulling over the idea of going to either a very dark grey, or black for the remaining badges.

De-badge

my friend also doesnt like his tail lights on his evo as well, and hes thinking of getting these ones

just showing you in case your interested :P
Basics are the foundation for everything, without them would lead to nowhere. There is also a need for balance.....everything connected must be equaled out or complemented to each other in order to achieve stability; too much or too little of something will lead to chaos.

I did consider the Ralliart tails but, in all honesty I'm not 100% sold on their looks either....plus, they don't fix the stupid clear centre brake light issue :D
I'm fairly happy with the way the film has turned out, and I'm a few hunred dollars better off compared to the Ralliarts too  O0

darn, I had a set of h11 yellows that I was practically giving away.  I bought them to test if yellow would look good in my headlights and used them for a maximum of 4 hours.

Oh well...

I've always been a firm believer in little mods making a big difference.  You sir, are heading in the right direction, the EVO looks awesome!

do you only have stock bulbs for your headlights? i think your headlights were yellow when i cruised with you that day to the bavarian inn.
if so, you should get some HID's, they look REAL nice on your car  >:D

If you've still got the bulbs I'll likely take them off your hands and put them in the wife's car. :)

I guess it was the DRL's that you saw...the car does have HID's from the factory  8)

They are right here, they are yours for free, no one wants them, so at least they'll go to good use:

Got the remaining badges and the trim around the trunk release button blacked out. Turned out OK, but I ended up rushing more than I'd have liked and really need to do the Mitsu emblem again. I may just try and get hold of some cheap new badges and take a little more time over them.

Also, thanks to richie_rich, the wife's car also has yellow fog bulbs.
Much appreciated mate 8)

And so the collecting of power output related bits commences, albeit modestly at first :)

Part #1 - Resonated test pipe.

Mark, I propose that you install that first with the stock catback... Then proceed to take me for a ride to test sound levels before and then after the catback is installed as well  >:D

Hahah.  Pretty please? :)

You know, if I had access to a lift, I'd actualy do that.........but I don't, so we'll just have to imagine the difference in sound until the concrete in my garage gets a little less frigid, and Sunny is available to do some tuning ;) :D

Started accumalting a few bits ready for when I can get the car(s) tuned.

T1-R resonated test pipe, handily with a wideband O2 sensor bung already welded in :)

Ultimate Racing upper intercooler hardpipes, in fairly stealthy wrinkle black (for my car), Perrin turbo inlet (one for both mine and the missus cars), Perrin drop in filter (again 1 for each car).
I'll get some T-bolt clamps for the UICP and probably the turbo inlet tomorrow.

I've already fitted a 1 piece UICP on the wife's car. Got it from a fella up in Leduc who'd already had it powdercoated a kind of black chrome finish (very nice job too).

Another order to go in tomorrow for a couple of bits, and I also need to sort myself out with a Tactrix cable.
After that, a few suspension bits will be the next order of the day :)
