If you have a Cobb AccessPort (version1 or version2)
« on: January 12, 2010, 06:18:35 pm »
It works as an OBD-II reader!   What, you already knew that? :P

How about the fact that it works with cars other than just for the car it's married to?  Did'ja know that, smart guy?  :sarcasm:

I had previously used my v1 AP (for an 05 WRX) to pull the CEL codes from an 04 WRX, so it doesn't have to be the car it's married to.

How about the fact that it works on cars that it couldn't be married to?   :o

I just used my v2 AP to pull the CEL codes for a 2002 2.5RS owner, so it doesn't even have to be for a car it could marry/reflash.

So, the next time someone posts up needing an OBD-II reader to find out what their CEL is for, if you're close to them then do them a favour!   :cops:

Be careful about the codes that it spits out.  It is not a "real" ODB-II device where it sends out ODB-II commands to read back codes.  AFAIK, it reads memory locations that are used to store CEL codes.  If Subaru changes the address, it'll give the wrong code.

Cool.  But can it read codes off a non-Subie?  Based on Airboy's response, I'm guessing no, as these memory locations would be completely different in a different make of car, right?

Won't read codes from a Volkswagen.
