It is not aftermarket.

Feature group IV : Keyless entry with Security and Alarm upgrade, rear cargo cover, tail-pipe cover. Price: $511.00

Confirmed as 2 other foresters of the same year at PnP have the same system.
And yes, it does have starter kill. Which is what the button under the dash is for.

Not saying that the wiring isn't borked, as there is no alarm speaker which leads me to believe it has been tampered.
But it isn't aftermarket. So I don't know how easy it will be to "tear it out".

Hm, very good points.. Probably not the best plan to try and rip it out then, ignore my previous uninformed post ha ha

If it's a common forester thing maybe someone's found a solution or a bypass at subaruforester.org

I'm afraid my usefulness on the subject (if there ever was any) has run out

It still looks damn good though after a polish and wax.

...for a "beater".

At least it looks good.

Haven't had that starting issue since last post. Strange.

Geez, your pic looks like a Subaru ad cut out of a magazine. The only thing missing is the sumo wrestler.

Congrats on getting the BW for a winter beast. I've got a 98 Foz S also. I'm thinking when it's time to do something with the engine I might go with a few NA mods (cams, LW pulley, etc). I've had an FXT for a while and I'm interested in seeing the difference that NA (non turbo lag) power would make. A WRX swap would be really fun, but I'm not prepared to enter wiring harness swap territory yet.

Here's a link with NA info.

I'm not really looking into modifying another car too heavily. If a cheap Borla UEL header fell in my lap I might look at it. A WRX/STi swap depends on who wrecks their itshay this winter, I'll be parked next to the Henday waiting for the cruize to roll by. Or should I say, roll end over end.
