If you are riding, carry first aid
« on: July 29, 2010, 08:56:18 am »
My friends and I helped a kid with a pretty big tear in his leg (2nd person I've helped this year with a leg wound).  I had the perfect first aid kit for him so we were able to send him to the hospital well wrapped.  Like my injury the kid's was on a nothing part of trail but he got unlucky with a stump and ended up with an 8" gash all the way through the side of his calf.

You don't need a big first aid kit. It can be as fancy as some compresses, wrapping material, gloves and tape.  All told, about $5 in stuff from a medical supply store.

Be safe out there.

Hmm had not even thought about it. Would be a good idea and seeing as I carry a small backpack anyway it would not be difficult or add any weight. I guess I have some shopping to do.

My kit is the size of a Ziploc sandwich bag (that's my waterproof container).  My take is that a wound will be small enough that it doesn't need first aid, is big enough that it can be treated with what I have or is big enough that I'm calling in a chopper.

With my Spot http://www.findmespot.ca/en/index.php the chopper call in isn't bravado, its a fact. :-|

Not including.

I'm at 3 if I count myself.  The one last night was very similar to my own :(
