Turbo Toyota Echo?..... Installed!!
« on: September 14, 2010, 08:44:13 pm »
Yeah, thats right. Echo.
no Typo!

2002
Auto
980 kg
109 hp

my girlfriend picked this up after her Nissan Stanza Blew up back in 06,

2 years i decided i wanted the echo to stand out a bit.
so i added some fog lights!

some more time passed and we decided to get some air horns. just the smaller setup
that you can get from canadian tire made by friam or something.
you could say we added some extra echo to the Echo!
picked up a set of Nokian Hakka R's for winter time to scoot around in the snow.
Pink was always the color in mind. we found a JVC headunit that has custom colors.
for her birthday i gave her some pink floormats, her brother got her a pink steering wheel.

hrm.. so march 2010... started to really take off in the echos awesomeness!
Pink wheels ordered from Cali wrapped in a set of 205/40R16 goodride sv308's.

August 2010, ordered a weaponR CAI. added a mean sound and added a ton of
pickup over the stock intake. then a friend gave us some colored wire loom covers.
also entered a show and shine at deerfoot mall.

Sept 2010, we decided turbo kit is a must! made some preperations.
pink boost and tach gauge!

as we sit right now the turbo kit is said to arrive by fedex on friday!
5 psi, no i/c or bov. comes with greddy emanage and is a complete ready to run kit
made by greddy.

picked up a Greddy type RS bov.
still needing a small intercooler to cool the air charge. and a few pipes.

thats where we stand and will update when the kit arrives.

TURBO KIT IS INSTALLED!!!

we tossed it in a few weeks ago, it was rather easy. the greddy kit was very easy to install and came with everthing.
e-manage blue (pre-tuned)
charge piping
intake piping
turbo
braided oil feed line
1-step colder plugs
oil pan
couplers
manifold
downpipe
and probably others that i forgot.

the kit came without an intercooler or a blow off valve. everything heated up very quick and could tell that the ecu was pulling timing.

so we ran the car like this for a week and a half and decided to get custom charge pipe built. we had planned an arc side mount out of a gts skyline. information was wrong... it was for an fd rx-7. totally wrong end tanks. so we picked up a 300zx sidemount.

so next we need to complete the custom intake, to relocate behind the passenger headlight.
need a better more tunable piggyback.
custom quiet 2-2.5 inch exhaust

it pulls like crazy at half throttle. after 4000rpm you can feel the stock exhaust holding everything back.

more updates to come!

Nice!
The wife had an '02 Echo for a while, in Silver as well. Sold it when she decided she wanted an auto. Tein S-Tech's and a set of 16"x8" wheels made a huge difference to both the fun factor and the looks. Still got the S-Tech's in their box down in the basement  ???

What kind of gains are you expecting with that 5psi turbo kit? (Generally speaking of course).

well with the kit installed, an added fmic and manual boost controller @7psi we are hoping to have over 200whp. stock is 109 crank.

someone in the states had a custom turbo/fmic @7psi put down 230.

we will see if i can make my gf's car have more power!

not yet no, its in whitby, on.
fedex sucks and delayed shipping by a day, so instead of installing it this weekend i have to wait for my next weekend in the end of sept  >:(

intercooler shopping tomorrow though!!! yay!

here is a pic of the kit on the previous owners car, used it for under 1000k
im planning on adding a fmic to this kit, and relocating the intake to behind or under the pass headlight. just got to extend maf wires.
also have a greddy type rs to go on as well.

:o That's a lot of intercooler! Should be interesting trying to fit that in their, let alone get the piping to either side.

yes this is her dd. not trying to make it a race car, just give the echo some more pep.

and its the arc side mount. there is a perfect place for it beside the radiator up front, its blocked off py a large plastic piece. perfect endtanks to make it work as well so piping should be easy. i have planned it all out!  8)

Ah, that makes more sense. Nice pick up.....those have to be as rare as hens teeth as 99% of people went front mount. Good job! 8)

This is a really interesting project. I'm actually kind of curious now how much you can do to these base model Toyotas. I always assumed it was kind of like the Cavalier/Aveo in which case nobody cared about the poverty-spec cars enough to put parts on them.

I've seen videos of an auto-x turbo Yaris before, and the platform actually seems pretty good for short track racing. They're solid or torsion-beam rear axle, I assume.

What turbo is in the kit for this car? TRD probably makes a supercharger kit if you're only producing around 5psi anyway - I know there's one for the Scion xB/Yaris.

That kit was originally for an 00-02 bB right? I think I found the original owners install thread over on yarisworld.
By the way, those charge pipes are crying out to be painted pink/purple to go with the rest of the colour theme ;)
