If you can, invest in a Never Summer. I've ridden countless boards and I honestly don't think I will ride anything else. I've dealt with the company from both the skate and snow sides, and they are incredibly professional. I teach snowboarding, and although I bought a Capita to abuse that with, I almost always end up back on my NS, even with the little kids running my board over. (Eek!!)

In a couple days I am pulling the trigger on this raptor x, boots and bindings deal....... $135 off retail for buying as a package.

Keep your eye out on the resort of your choice's webpage. There should be something on there about demo dates. Companies like Burton and Salomon usually show up with various types of technologies that you can try out, and if you like the product enough, you can buy on the spot.

cool thanks, i'll also keep my eye out for some never summer stuff and ask about it at the shops.

Ha! still going for the Raptor?  I've narrowed it down to the Heritage or the Raptor.  The Premier F1 sounds like a nice board, but from every review I have read it say's it's quite a bit heavier then the others in the line up.  My Timeless is not light by any means, so I was wanting to shave some pounds for responsiveness.  The one thing about the Raptor that I'm still hesitant about is the directional design of the Rocker&Camber setup.  I think it would effect riding fakie, but I'm not sure to what degree.  The Raptor is a 7 Dampness and 6.5 stiffness, the Heritage is a 7 Dampness as well and 5.5 stiffness, so not a huge difference in that department.  The both have the exact same tech features for construction aside from the aforementioned directional Rocker&Camber profile on the Raptor.  The Raptor just makes me think Pagani Zonda, so in that regard it's a must have.  The Heritage reminds me more of an 911 Turbo (AWD), so in that regard it's a must have as well... F, decisions.....

My only purpose in life is to take perfectly good atmosphere and compress the F out of it.

Specs below, you will notice the setback is substantially more for the Raptor. It's far more directional than the Heritage. The Heritage is still directional, but far less so than the Raptor.  If you have questions, let me know, I'm talking to NS a bit here and there during my splitboard build, I can pass any questions along.

Nice kit JimmEh!  You must do a full review when you have had a chance to ride this stick.

Sadly due to falling into a recent financial deficit I don't think I will be purchasing anything new this year.  Thanks for everyone's input especially on the NS gear, will be my next board for sure...

ok well after rockin magnum PI for the morning I turned to the raptor x for the afternoon. Only on groomed, everything else was rock heaven.

weight: a lot less then magnum PI. it is shorter and narrower though.
boots: OMF
bindings: OMF
holding an edge: OMF
edge to edge: OMF
riding switch: OMF
speed: the shorter length was made up with a fresher base.
powder: yet to be determined

I will say that I did an ollie off a roller at near full speed, weight centered on the board and I found myself on my nose then on my back with snow down my assay. with the camber up front and rocker out back I found it easy to get the weight forward. If you are conscious of this it is no biggie.

control was amazing, fresh edges, narrower board and shorter board probably helped.

also of note: I got volcom pants, my old burton jacket does not connect the powder skirt to the pants like my old burton pants, so i had a cold lower back all day because the powder skirt rode up.

another update after getting to finally test in powder.......

rides awesome in powder. stays afloat with little effort, better then the magnum.

my concern about the length was not unfounded. it was much slower on groomed with packed pow on top. I maybe should have got the 165. either way today was amazing. just wish i had more speed.

They make it in a 156 as well, would probably be perfect for you  ;D

Mine's a 164... and I got the Karakoram system. Expensive set-up, but worth it overall I think.

You shoosh! No snowboarding for minimum six weeks for me anyway...No point in getting a set up just to stare at and torture myself with everyday. I've got an Infinity in a 151 and am freaking stoked on that for the time being anyway!

If you ordered it now... you would have it just in time!  ;D

Then infinity is a nice board, I'm going to see if I can talk them into making it in a 120 for my daughter...

I just picked up a  never summer legacy 161cm from Skiers sportshop. I wasn't really on planning on picking up a board yesterday but oh well, I don't upgrade very often :/

Reviving this thread a bit;

Just wondering if anyone has ridden any of the Prior boards, mainly the Men's Freeride or even the Pow Stick.   Still really like the sounds of the Never Summer kit...

I rode a Prior MFR in a 165 for a couple of years. The board rode pretty nice on groomers, and solid charging crud at speed. It was meh in fresh... float was disappointing for a 165. I went over the handlebars more often than I should have on it. My 158 NS SL-R floats better (I did endo this weekend though... just got lazy), rocker probably makes a difference here. The base was the weakest of any board I have owned, very thin and soft with no real structure. Plus, I got a delam starting shortly after I bought it that they wouldn't warranty, so I had it fixed on my dime.

I wish my experience was better, I like supporting Canadian companies (that's why I bought it in the first place) but it just wasn't worth it. Plus, it was more expensive than most boards. I have heard their quality and customer service have improved drastically though, so it may be worth a shot. Most good companies (Rome, Venture) now offer 2 year warranties on their boards. Never Summer is three years. Prior is still a 1 year.

Thanks Zee!  I liked the idea of Canadian as well.  It's interesting that the Prior MFR has traditional camber under toe and rocker at the tips, whee as the NS boards has rocker under toe and traditional camber at the tips???  I still haven't ridden a rockered/reversed cambered board, and thought maybe the Prior would be a better a step into this century coming from my fully cambered Timeless...  Might be counter intuitive to think this way, also sounds like NS has more R&D put into there planks.   Still sounding like NS is next seasons woody.

Im going to join in here and ask my q's. Right now i'm riding my 05 forum raider 161, I just upgraded my bindings to some ride spi's last year and my boots are terrible. I dont really ride switch, or in the park, I just love riding around the mountain trying to find the best snow. I'm going to be picking out some new boots coming up here but im wondering if there are any recommendations on a board. I weigh 180lbs and I find that the raider works awesome in powder and groomed but over the rough stuff it tends to chatter a lot and become fairly uncontrollable. I've been looking around at different boards but with the huge selection it seems to all blend together. So far i'm looking at the salomon answer magnum 158, capita black death 159 or even the never summer raptor. Any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.
