Honest question. Why have a big FMIC when over half of it is going to covered up by the bumper support?
This car is more fun than the entire French air force crashing into a firework factory.

Another honest question. What does all of the carbon fiber do for you? Is it just for looks or is it somehow "performance" enhancing?

some people quite enjoy the look, it is also extremely lightweight. When my friend got a carbon fiber hood for his ford escort  ::) i almost threw it through the roof when I picked it up. Probably weighed less then the cardboard box it came in. You can play with your front rear weight ratio or you can improve all around through weight loss, or for aesthetic appeal basically as far as I know
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

I'm well aware of the weight reducing capabilities of carbon fiber, but in many cases an after market piece is often more heavy than the OEM piece. Never mind that if you are adding a lip/diffuser you are actually adding weight for a negligible increase in performance. Swapping out parts to a carbon fiber replica will not net you much weight loss; if some one is serious about shedding pounds the carbon fiber is a great option combined with a more serious weight loss plan.

I don't hate the look of carbon fiber, but if there is no reason for an upgrade besides aesthetic appeal, then I don't really see the point.

Agreed. Also it is pretty easily damaged, and from what I have seen of carbon parts, cold weather isn't the best for them.

Honest question. Why have a big FMIC when over half of it is going to covered up by the bumper support?

no matter which one ya take its the same amount open in the front opening  so bumper or not same flow through the intercooler but atleast i have a bumper enjoy explaining to the insurance why there is so much damage and wheres the bumper beam.
plus less heat soak with the fmic ,without tune it even felt better then my perrin topmount since in stop and go the heat soak was sick also now cheap for a fmic so it was my next move to get back lost power before i went to the next power level .

Another honest question. What does all of the carbon fiber do for you? Is it just for looks or is it somehow "performance" enhancing?

a.pennis extention

b.pennis extention

c. actually i have had money on just the diffuser for over 7 months since my car is  08 it has no black so this popped up rather then paint it black i bought  in on a group to be the first to have this.

d. the carbon fiber trunk came about because of needing to fill a dozen or so holes in my stock trunk lid to install the 2011 sti spoiler .a new factroy unpainted trunk lid is  500 and i got cf 500 shipped to my door so the cf was cheaper it didnt need painting and i got free premounting of the spoiler .

e.i got the spoiler cf wrapped to match up to the trunk and diffuser so it all flowed for looks .weight savings maybe plus pounds after all parts  not too bad .

so in a nut shell i wanted the duffuser and the spoiler the trunk just happened :)

its not to lose weight i dont care about that for the look and to save money beleve it or not .
the cf trunk is lighter then stock between 10-15 pounds i think and the duffuser is 1.5 pounds .the spoiler that is about as heavy as the trunk lol its just for look most of it thats how i roll my car is for show and i have go also i drive it on my 11 days off and its parked winters so my toy really .

Agreed. Also it is pretty easily damaged, and from what I have seen of carbon parts, cold weather isn't the best for them.

my car is in a heated garage for the winter and worst case i have all my stock parts anyway its my baby.

I realize that. But wouldn't it be better to have an IC core matched to the opening in the bumper so that all the air is cooled, instead of only half? Not trying to berate you, just a genuine question.

Ya was my thought also but the if the core was half the size the hp rating it can cool  would also drop it's would have to then be thicker allowing less flow to the rad and engine bay. Cut in half fine then have to double thickness to make it have the same capacity .

This core is actually a lot smaller then some others and there's cause the removal of the bumper beam.

So yes if ya had the double thick core it could be smaller height wise .

So it's one or the other I guess :)

Car looks good as-is, please dont ruin it by adding that ugly trunk/spoiler :(

It'll really cheapen the way the car looks imo.  Focus more on power, less on rice.

Thanks a lot .

I have all the power mods on order. Or being ordered I plan to do .

A clutch combo , hsf5 meth kit , to go with my turbo and full tbe and full grimmspeed manifold and up pipe setup , intake, inlet, injectors, fmic .he only things I can do in that department is a engine build and bigger turbo again.

Car won't look any worse then a evo or a sti

I Want  different so I hope these things will help with that I also lined up a ings grill.

I hope not to make it greasy but more aggressive and more of a one of a kind I am not one to want the same as everyone else .

Thanks for the input tho .

my n-1 auto side skits have landed also my grimmspeed up pipe  ;D

my 2011 spoiler is in the works it has landed and been started on it transformation on modayhere are a few pictures it will be updated tomarrow with the overlay photos .my man jared is slick .

for sedan08+ sedan owners we are trying to get a cf vortex generator made also off a charge speed hatch on as the basics to mod to fit and then a mold made of it  ;D i will keep yas in the loop .

day one what can brown do for you

just taken out of the box

Wanted to take it apart to see what was up with that random plastic piece but I figured out it is a wire the goes from one end all the way to the other side incase the wing was torn off or tampered with or even just was tempted to fall off at 140mph + it would stay on by that wire.

Loop is attached to the bolt that mounts to the trunk.

ok back to business after putting it back together I masked off the sides that arent going to be overlayed and also the plan is to seal up that plastic piece so I am filling it in with some handy body filler but before I lay that down I scored the surface with 60 grit and masked off the perimeter

First Layer of Body Filler I will need to do a second pass with filler to make sure I get a nice flat surface then it will be sanded out with a 150grit sandpaper to get the geometry surface where it needs to be before proceeding with the overlay.

so I sanded all the body filler in and there was just some left over dips and valleys in the piece and I actually used 60 grit not 150 I just decided a rougher paper would get the job done quicker ( but there is much skill required when working with heavier grits because it is very easy to burn through surfaces or make weird concaves everywhere.)

When there is a concavity in a section of the surface I like to write in marker to let myself know where all the spots need to be filled in. I like to refer concavity as it being shallow in areas. Just helps me

either looks like a protein shake or a crap load of body filler

a lot of people love to used acetone to clean surfaces or areas with left over residue but on certain plastics such as ABS or other plastics it is very easy to burn through it or eat away surfaces so I use either goo gone but gets kinda oily but if i am going to spray right after I will use alcohol to wipe away stuff

HEre is some 40grit action It is imperative that you have a really scored surface before applying the CArbon Fiber so it has a place to hold on to as well as keeping it from delaminating.

Here is a pic of the sanded surface on the bottom with the body filler. I have had about 6 years of experience now with composites and let me tell you that the hardest part of it is getting the surface the smoothest and the flattest as possible you can see I used about 3 batchs of body filler to get the surface just right.

The last step I did today was I sprayed a black paint just real lightly just about 1 coat touch spots of necessary but this is so when you put your Carbon on you wont see through to the gray ABS plastic just incase somewhere in the Carbon it decides to let an area peek through. But also this step is crucial too because if you put too much paint or dont let it cure for a day and then you put CF over it it will delaminate thats why I only put 1 coat on and I am going to let it Sit for a day before I start laying down resin with the CF.

hopefully the rest will come along shortly .

well hot off the presses .

Here is the wing hanging. I had to wet the whole surface with resin before applying the Carbon Fiber and by letting it cure to a nice tacky touch allows the carbon to stick really well. I let it sit over night with the unsaturated carbon so that the carbon can adhere to the surface.

Morning came around and I was able to lay some resin
I was overwhelmed with picture taking because I just couldn't get a good enough shot but you can kind of get an idea of what it will look like.

BTW my electricity went out as I was laying down the bottom side but I was able to lay it with my hands in the dark.

I'd somehow assumed it would be that darn "Dinoc 3M 'carbon fibre'" wrap, so this blows me away.
