2006 Jamis Dakar XLT2:

Old picture from 2 years ago, I mostly ride XC so it's now rolling on Mavic X819's with DT Swiss 240's wrapped in some stupid light Maaxis XC race tires.  I've got the 213's & XT hubs still for freeridey kind of days.  The wheel & tire swap dropped a massive 3.8 lbs off the bike, it's currently sitting at 28.8 lbs

Going to try and get back into riding again this summer.
I used to ride lots in high school but have been out of it for a few years... and now I'm getting out of shape.
Picked this Norco 1 Hun up off pinkbike tonight for $150 to get my feet wet again.

And here's my old raked out Rocky Mountain Grind... man what was I thinking back then?
Oh well, I had some fun on it anyways!  :P

Nice find for $150! I want to find something kinda small to just ride around the neighborhood and such. I now regret selling my old Specialized Hardrock when I got my new bike last summer. Oh well, learn for next time I guess.

Ya, I thought it was an alright deal.
It's been well used but seems to be in decent condition besides a one small dent.
Plus it's another thing I can say I carried in my STi without folding seats... maybe not quite as impressive as a complete BBQ, but still impressive none the less.

My Kona Humuhumu is riding around the neighbourhood and it's worked out fairly well.

A 20" is tempting but the knees cry out at the thought of it :p

Giant does have a mighty nice line right now.  Of the big box bikes I'd say Trek and Giant have the best offerings, with Giant edging a bit on the XC side and Trek edging a bit on the DH side.

Devinici may have a winner with the Wilson, but a new bike always needs a year in the market before someone can pass judgement.

Ya i was thinking something with 24" tires so it is a bit bigger and fun to just play around on in the neighbourhood. For anything like this though my budget would be very small since my wife is wanting to get into riding with me since I am doing it a lot, so need a second bike and full roof rack system. Going to be an expensive spring.

I just missed out on an 05 Santa Cruz Blur XC for $500. Was a smokin deal but by the time I got home and was going to show my wife, it was already sold. Oh well. Hopefully will find a good deal on either used racks or bike come spring.

I may know of a cheap lady spec'd small Blur XC up for sale if you're interested.

Screw the roof rack. Get a hitch installed ($180) and pick up a Raxter.  Way, way better than a roof mount on a Subie.

Hmm, I think a small may be too small for her as she is 5'10". Her current bike (Giant OCR3) is a M or maybe even a L. I need to get her into a bike shop to try different frame sizes to see what size we should be looking for, I am guessing a M though.

The reason I want to go with a roof mount is I take my two dogs with me lots as well and need to be able to put them in the hatch. Majority of hitch mounts won't allow this while the bikes are on the rack.

A roof rack may indeed be in your future.

I do know of a cheap medium Reign for sale.  The owner's 5'10" so it ought to fit your wife.

PM me the details of the bike and I will talk to her. I am looking really at buying late in April but may be able to strike a deal.

Assuming it is in Calgary may be tough to get to see it but who knows, if it is the right price/bike then it is worth the trip.

My Dirt Jump and street bike,  I also have a front brake, xt 9 speed drivetrain and MRP chainguide for when I occasionally ride trails. Taking it to Rabbit Hill in the summer and passing clowns on fancy 8" DH bikes w/ full troy lee suit and matching helmet on a hardtail is good entertainment.
Corsair Ducat
Marzocchi DJ1
Deity cranks, bars, stem, chainring, lock grips
Easton flatboy pedals
bmx chain w/ godspeed chain tensioner for single speed. Shimano  XT 9 speed drivetrain and MRP guide for when I want more than 1 gear.
Demolitoin seat
Avid Mech brakes w/ eclat 2 finger bmx levers
Ringle Hubs 12mmR 20mmF through-axles w/ mavic 729 rims
Maxxis holy roller tires

My buddy has a 2006 Reign for sale cheap.  It's a 6"/6" bike but with a 69 deg headtube so I wouldn't call it a freeride rig.   It's a pretty versatile bike for someone that's starting and would be just as likely to pedal a XC trails and bomb a FR line.  PM me if you're interested.
