2.0L, TD04, PnP, and Meth
« on: July 07, 2008, 10:34:57 am »
Since the original post was lost in the db crash, here it is again.

*Mods and dyno plot updated at the bottom of this post*

Relevent Info

'04 WRX
Stock 2.0L
PnP OEM headers, uppipe, IC elbows, throttle body, TD04
Gutted stock uppipe
Prodrive silicone y-pipe
Perrin turbo inlet
Resonator removed (used for meth tank)
Stock airbox w/ K&N panel filter drawing from fenderwell through an Airboy velocity stack
GM BCS
Aquamist 2D+DDS3 water/meth injection @ 50/50 by volume
ERZ catless downpipe
Borla Hush twin tip CBE

Everything installed, PnP, and tuned by me.

I think that's all the pertinent information. Now on with the graphs:

Dyno - This was produced using Sunny's (Airboy) spreadsheet. The only thing modified from original values is to compensate for my 225/45/18 tires (25.97" wheel diameter).

Boost

Timing

Overall it's great for a daily driver, lots of fun light to light. Would I like more top end? Maybe one day ;)

Update October 12, 2008:

Since Sunny updated his thread I figured I would do the same. I have gone to Husky 92 and completed the TGV delete and phenolic spacers, MBC (no choice), mixing meth/water 50/50 by weight rather than volume, and some small tweaking since the original post. This map worked well with H90 as well (I was forced while in BC), it pulled ~0.7 degrees through the WOT area but never dropped IAM even though the car was being driven rather hard. ADI rocks!

This run was in the morning with 2*C ambient temperatures.

That is a good amount of torque from the 2L. Yay for virtual displacement ;D  This is with Husky94+Meth, right?  Temperature around 20C?

Gain 50 ft-lbs, ask me how! :-)

Forced induction is a beautiful thing :)

That is indeed Husky 94 + Meth @ 18*C.

I am trying changing up the mixture a bit now.  I am testing 50/50 by weight instead of volume (more methanol content) but I haven't had a chance to tweak the map yet.  I am trying to see what I need more; cooling of the intake charge or higher octane.

Latest dyno runs ... +10 torques

Now I just need to do the TGV delete, light PnP on the intake manifold, and get the phenolic spacers installed and see what that does.

Nice. More "Torques" is always good ;D Is that with the increased meth content + more timing?  I need to get mine tuned up... :-[  I think I may be spraying too much.

No change to timing, just different mix.  What % ADI are you injecting?

My goal is to reach your 290WTQ from the Subracing dyno day 8)

Hmm, so the lower water content in the mix sped up the flame front?

Looks like >20% (by volume).  I'll try to scale that back to 15% with smaller jet and restrictor and re-tune.

That would be my guess.

You should be ok with 20%, that's not a crazy amount.  It should be interesting to see what happens if you scale back.

Are you just not happy with the results @ 20% ADI?  What gains did you see?

Good job Jeff,  that is some nice results you got from the meth injection.  Have you run it on straight water?

Thanks.  I did run water alone initially to test the system and spent some time leaning it out to see the gains (~15ftlbs if I recall correctly) but moved on the mix once I was happy that the system was stable.

Jeff,

would you be willing to show pictures of your meth install.  I am interested in doing this one day and maybe yours is a little less ghetto than Sunnys pictures hahahaha

I had a writeup on the initial install back on ASC, and a full writeup here before the crash lost it. When I get some time I'll do another one.

Here are some pics to give you the idea:

I don't know if it's any less ghetto than Sunny's install though ... I keep telling myself I'll go back in and clean up the wiring. ;P

Gotta love "displacement on demand" and "race gas on demand" ;D

Did you get you pre-turbo sprayer working?

So when are you getting some "real" displacement ;)

Absolutely ... the combo is unbeatable. And I got 26 MPG city last fill, find a Hemi that can do that.

Did you get you pre-turbo sprayer working?

It's in the plans, but not until spring. I have some thinking and designing to do on how I want to place the nozzle.

So when are you getting some "real" displacement ;)

Once I fry the 2.0 ... but hopefully that won't happen for a long while. I'd love to have that extra .5L, it makes such a difference in torque.
