SOLD: hoanger's 2011 GR - VOLK / BRIDE / VOLTEX / VARIS
« on: April 04, 2011, 09:22:42 pm »
Thought I'd get started on this build thread since summer is coming and I'm getting going on this pretty quick.

Went to Calgary Subaru on Feb 28th to go and place an order on an STi Sedan Sport Tech package in the sedan form. The debate on whether I was going to get the sedan or the hatch took me a few months before I made up my mind. I decided since the sedan was new for the STi for 2011, I was going to take a shot at it and make it into something that's (hopefully) unique and different.

I walked in, and low and behold, the salesman said that he had exactly what I wanted in stock because another individual had ordered it and the deal fell through because he was not able to put cash forward when he needed to. I sat down with him, quickly made the deal and got delivery of the car within a week.

Before I jump into details about the STi, I'll just quickly introduce my previous ride.

It was a 2006 Honda Civic Coupe. I went through 5 good years with it with tons of different transformations until I got to this point (pics posted) and felt that it was finished and there was really nothing else I could do with it. I tracked the car for the last 2 years and loved every minute of it. I guess I've gotten to the point where I just want more power and more options to tune with.
Some quick specs on the whip

Interior
Recaro SRD

TWM M1 Abrams shift knob
TWM Short shifter
JDM FD2 Shift boot

Engine

Wheels/suspension
Buddy Club N+ Coilovers
SPC Front camber bolts
Work Meister S1 18x9 +26
Falken FK452 225/40/18
Project Kics gunmetal lugnuts

Pics of the beast a few days after I took it home. The first thing I did when I took it home was take off the dealer badge, the "SUBARU IMPREZA AWD" badges and left the STI to keep it subtle and clean.

Already on order before I had the car was Nokya 3000k DRL bulbs again. I found that they were one of my most favourite little cheap mods that I had on the civic that I wanted again for the Subie. Those went in right away as well. (Sorry no current pics of those).. I'll get some.

A few weeks later, I was looking into my wheel options. Fadi over at Tunerworks was able to grab one of my wheel options to test fit for inner suspension clearance, fender clearance and BBK clearance. Unfortunately, they only had that one wheel so I was unable to get those... Here are some pics.
The specs are 18x10 +18. This was the ideal size that I wanted to do, but I have found another set of wheels that is a little more conservative at 18x9.5 +20, but still considered quite aggressive from all the research that I've done for the GR's.

I want to also give a shoutout to Aldrich for pointing me in the direction of Brennan (BetaCuts) that quickly shipped out a set of WSC stickers to rep. And of course, also reppin' our illmotion glow-in-the-dark decal on my rear window. Sorry for the dirty pics.
If you see me be sure to wave! I'll wave back! I'm pretty friendly haha

So far, that's all I've got since waiting for parts is painstakingly long. I have BC racing coilovers on the way that should be here in a few weeks from Cam over at LightSpeed in Red Deer so once those come in, I'm slapping them on ASAP and will have more updates as well. I will try to keep this updated as much as possible.

EDIT April 7, 2011
Wheels are here. Work XT7 18x9.5 +20

EDIT April 9, 2011
Test fit

Front fitment

Rear fitment

Just placed it in the trunk and I actually thought it was dope haha. I should get another wheel to tie down in the trunk

EDIT April 18, 2011
Dome LED's as well as license plate LED's - but no pics of those.

EDIT May 9, 2011

BC BR Racing Coilovers are in!

EDIT May 13, 2011

EDIT June 12, 2011

Update Sept 8, 2011

EDIT January 19, 2012

Thought I'd update this somewhat. The car has been hibernating since the end of September :(
Just waiting on some new aero, new rollers, and some new go parts to come in and get on the car. Hopefully it's out by May long or earlier. We'll see how it all goes.

Since the old wheels were sold, and the car is on jacks I decided to change some things up while I had the time and hit two birds with one stone. I've always been a fan of red Brembos since I've seen them way back when I was a kid. I hated when they decided to change the 08+ to black and brand them "STI" instead of keeping them gold and branded "Brembo".
I think this will compliment the new look for this year perfectly.

Have to say, I've seen your civic around a couple times and the S1's look so good.

Congrats on the new Subaru.
Are you going with the XD9's? 10J +18 would be pretty nutso, not so practical though.
You can definitely squeeze some more tire on with the 9.5J's. I vote 265's at least.

Thanks man!

I'm not going with the XD9's.. as much as I'd like to. I guess it's better for me to start off more conservative so I know how I can fit wider wheels next time.

Oh god. I can't wait to see how this car turns out. I think your's was the only new gen civic I liked.

But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

I sooo wish the XD9's cleared the calipers on my Evo.....the 18x10 +18's would have been a no brainer for me as I love those wheels.
Not that it's a particularly uncommon size/offset, but can I assume you're going with another Work Emo wheel? Either way I'm looking forward to seeing how this car progresses  8)

Dude, make sure you bathe the BC's in antiseize on the locking collars and threads, and spray bomb the crap out of the entire assembly with rust preventive clear. I think it's Tremclad that makes a rust preventive spray... Home Depot/Rona etc. Seriously though, make sure you do... unless you plan on swapping in your stock suspension each winter.

Jory - Thanks man! I appreciate it. I'm hoping this will be something I can make unique as well!

skylineguv - Oh they didn't clear the evo calipers? Are the STI calipers and Evo calipers different sizes? Because the 18x10 +18 cleared the brembos of the STI with tons of room to spare. And yes, I am going with another work wheel. It's no real big secret but it's the Work XT7's with the deep concave face. I'm hoping to get them painted by Screamin' Paintworks right when they come in (hopefully this week) to a custom color.

ArjayAquino - thanks man!

Sleeper - Thanks for the info. I usually spray all of my coilovers with fluid film before putting them on, as it acts as a rust protector for about a year. I will be sure to grab some antiseize as well to rub on the inside of the cups and collars. However, I don't plan on driving the car during the winter simply because of the suspension components. It's way too much work to change out the suspension, control arms, endlinks and such and then back again for the summer. Who knows though, things may change and I might actually do that haha.

You can't NOT winter drive this car. Just jack up the coilovers in winter.. Or else you'll regret it!

Jory - I know... :( things may change.. but I'm just thinking ahead and stressing about all the work that I need to do to get it back to stock. I definitely wouldn't run the coils in the winter, regardless of how much anti-seize I put on it since winter is just too harsh on them. I've had enough bad experiences. However, if I'm up for the work, I will definitely drive it.

Levan634 - Thanks man! Hopefully I have some more updates soon!

Oh, Lester! Damn I was under the impression that you were older, that's why I got confused when I read that you were his little brother.
But yeah, thanks man! Looking forward to seeing your ride around some more.

I will be using the stock Dunlop's until they're done and then go over to 265/35/18. I'd really like to do T1R's again, but I'd also like to try RE11's for something new.
