Supertones from Rally built in India?
« on: August 25, 2008, 11:50:38 am »
So I read there are two versions of supertones. Those built in Germany (good quality), and those built in India (quieter, not as good quality).

I don't know why I didnt look before, but I have just noticed that the set I got from Rally is built in India.

Are my readings correct? Do I have the crap version? Should I return? (Pain in the assay across border)

Hey Sean, maybe add your words outside of the quote so we know what's your words.  Or at least we don't have to read word for word through the quote to know what's different between the OP's words and yours.

Its imprinted right on the back of the horn, made in india.

I've seen pictures (of DIY install guides on other forums) that clearly say "made in germany".

I was a little suspicious, when it showed up, and the Hella box had some rips and tears in it. Didnt really think anything of it, until now I look and see the thing isnt even german.

The box says
2x66W
118dB
500Hz high tone
300Hz low tone.

I think this is all the same, but if someone could confirm...

I remember reading somewhere I think on Nasioc that they are being produced in India now.  There isn't 2 different versions just cheaper labor.

Hello all!

Just wanted to cross post from the previous thread to help clarify,

Previously there were two types - the Indian made "113 DB" models (#HL85315) which are referred to as the lower end horns, and the popular German made 118db (the ones we carry).

The Horns look the same but are completely different application/db/build etc...so they are not the same type of horn setup by any means. In the past, folks would sometimes purchase the Indian 113db model thinking they were the 118db hence the origin of the Indian/German Hella horn preferences.

A few months back Hella moved all their tooling to India, and all Hella horns are now manufactured there, including the 118db horn mentioned (which is still made to the German spec) so there is no longer an Indian or German horn but different model #s.

Thanks much!
Team R/A
