Yep. Though I did laugh at people who were jumping on a car posing for pictures, while two guys punch at it like baboons performing a vigorous karate exercise.

This is unbelievable what I'm seeing right now on the live feed. Fights, looting, smashing, fires, flipped over vehicles, helicopters, cop cars on fire; all in front of a live news feed. Some people are retarded.

Apparently they closed a lot (all?) of the bridges to limit access to the downtown core... and then people couldn't leave. That generally doesn't make agitated people happy! I only watched a bit of the news, shortly after the game (had to pause my Doctor Who marathon

), and they said it was "pocket brawls" rather than mass rioting. Either it got worse after I lost interest, or the news casters were more than happy to find the grisliest scenes and broadcast them to the world at large.

Pity, Vancouver, pity.

Oh they will be. At the G20 riots, police used twitter/facebook/social media to located most of the major instigators and throw them in jail / fines.

ullbayitshay. Those aren't hockey fans. Those are idiots who wanted an excuse to riot.

The majority of Canuck fans are embarrassed and angry and posting pictures of the rioters on facebook and sending them to the police so they can be prosecuted.

IMO, they would have rioted no matter what.

There is a bunch of those within a facebook group. Like a lot of photos of the riot, and people bragging about it in their status'. Most people within the riot i think had nothing to do with the game or team, and I agree that the riot would have happened win or lose.

Sad really how far they went last night. But what is even more surprising is the massive social media event sweeping through the city. Thousands of people are banding together to help the police identify anyone involved and also volunteering to help clean up the downtown core. Of course this won't eclipse how ridiculous the riot was.

What gets me is that i was told by several Vancouver fans in a condescending way that Vancouver is more mature than Edmonton and that regardless of the cup outcome, there would be no riots like there were in Edmonton. Kind of like a "we're better than you, so shut the hell up".

Edmonton was nothing like last night in Vancouver.

It sucks how due to generalization that a small percentage of drunk hooligans can give an entire fanbase and city a bad name. Its easy to find examples of classless behaviour on the part of any city and use that to portray an entire city in a poor light. Especially if you've got preconceived notions about it.

Yea, Rioting is going to happen regardless. As long as there are stupid people with anger issues in this world, you will have violence when ever it's given the opportunity to rear its ugly horns. I expected riots, regardless of which city the final was in.

What i didn't appreciate was that several Vancouver Fans (I've conversed with) took the really snotty attitude approach and tried to claim their itshay don't stink. On some level, i view this as a favorable outcome to last nights game because perhaps it'll be used as a learning experience. There is always next year for Vancouver to 'make it right' when they go for the Stanley Cup for a second straight year.
