I was downtown the other day, looking good with the summers back on!  It was all shined up.  Have to take me for a cruise before you head to school, I'm curious of the awesomeness added to the ride as well.

Ya it's nice to get them back on. I was pretty tired of my stock wheels.
I'll give you a ride anytime you want, or you can drive it.
I'll probably put my sway bars on this weekend hopefully.

Well I put my swaybars and endlinks on this weekend. I haven't driven it much after, cause I was busy with other stuff. I did go around a few cloverleafs and it felt way more planted than before! The front wasn't pushing as much and the tires weren't squealing even though I was going faster than normal around them. Hope to get out for a better test drive soon.
I currently have the front on soft and the rear on medium, I'll play around with them a bit in the weeks to come.

Comparing rear bars

Comparing front bars

Rear bar/links on

Front bar/links on

Both rear links were nice and straight

I had to add one supplied spacer per side on the front, they ended up very close to straight

So i'm in school now so not buying much, but i did buy a few things. One is a urethane tranny mount (torque solutions, seemed like a no-name brand but import image sell them and said they haven't had any problems with them. Also my Group N will be for sale) another is a used AEM wideband, And the other item i will not tell you what it is :-X. It's a surprise!

Also set both sway bars to full stiff, Love how it handles. I can't wait to try it out at autos.

edit: make that 2 things I'm not gonna tell you about!

Ok that's just not fair, now we're all curious geesh!  I'll be watching for this...

So you're selling your wideband or getting one?  I can't remember what you had in there.

Saskatchatoon's Wagon...somethings brewing very very slowly
« Reply #82 on: July 28, 2012, 05:53:44 PM »
Went out to SIR on Friday and got 18 runs in!! Most I've had in one night before this was 4. This was my first time out in the wrx and first time in a car with some decent power / AWD. I started out with a 15.34 @ 91.53 with a 2.430 60' and got it down to what you see below.

1/4 Mile: reaction - .245
                     60' - 2.010
                    330 - 6.040
                    1/8 - 9.393
                   MPH - 73.78
                  1000 - 12.242
                    1/4 - 14.648
                   MPH - 93.46

I know I can still do better than this as I was constantly improving on my time all evening. I really want to get my 60' down to at least a 1.9, i just need to be more aggressive with the clutch without putting too much stress on the trans. I would like to see at least a 14.5xx 1/4 mile.
Heat seemed to be a real problem as my intercooler was hot all evening. I am thinking of exhaust wrap, turbo blanket, possibly some of that reflective tape on my intercooler and I want to get a intercooler spray kit set up.

I've also been doing some maintenance items on my car (plugs, pcv, cabin filter etc.) and I also wanted to change the fuel filter but didn't get around to it till today after the track which was yesterday. I had watched my injector duty cycle earlier in the week ad it was hitting 100% and now after I changed my filter it is hitting 97%. It is still very high but at least it isn't 100, the filter was super dirty and I'm not sure if it had ever been changed.
Here are some pics, on the new one you can see the filter is pure white.

I guess I'll let everyone know, it won't be happening quickly but I do have everything except for 1 last thing, a VF turbo I'm probably going to end up getting a vf39 since they are the more common and cheaper ones. Ideally I would like to get a VF30, and if I find one when I am ready to buy I will definitely get one.

So far I have an STI intercooler, 08 STI injectors, STI splitter is on the way and I already have the STI hoodscoop to fit the splitter. A few weeks ago I also put in a dw200 fuel pump.

As for a tune, I will start out with cobbs ots map and I'm still deciding between a dyno tune by airboy in Calgary or a email tune, would need to look into all the different companies that do this to decide which one. The email tune is much much cheaper, considering gas, hotel, and dyno time going the airboy route.

I also have the 02-07 SMY cluster gauge on order but the ship date keeps getting pushed back. I'm waiting on this to install my AEM wideband which I want installed before I do the turbo upgrade.

Ive also thought of putting in the injectors and getting an etune and go that way for a while before buying a different turbo. Maybe finish my suspension that I was planning on doing by now. All I need for that is struts, I've decided to go with the D-Specs instead of the Koni inserts. I can't wait to see how my car handles with the rce springs and d-specs. I also have the whiteline com c front strut mounts and group n rear strut mounts.

So that is basically where I'm at with my car. There are quite a few other things I want to do such as turbo inlet, Cobb intake, grimspeed boost solenoid, some visual stuff, and the heat control I had takes about in my previous post.

Here are some current pics of my car

Mod list looks killer!

FWIW, I just installed a Perrin turbo inlet. A royal pain to slip in there, but you can feel the boost come on quicker than before. I'm assuming that with stage2 it will be much more noticeable.

What direction are you planning now with your build? Auto X, Drag?

I don't have a dedicated direction for my car, I like to go to Autox but I also like to drag race. I really enjoy a well rounded car (power, suspension, brakes, etc) I guess the only real goal I've given my self is to end up with a 12.xx second daily driver. 12's won't happen anytime soon but it's just where I would like to end up.

What made you decide to take the dspecs instead of koni inserts? Just found out my struts are pooched and  need to decide. Plus, I now live in the maritimes and don't have a sweet local hookup for parts! Anyhow, let me know what you think of the dspecs as I most likely will be getting those!

I was set on the koni's because they were cheaper and I could get a good deal on them through work and they are also supposed to handle awesomely.
Then I waited so long that I started thinking about it again and decided I didn't feel like cutting up my stock struts and would rather just take my stockers out and throw in the d-specs/rce's. I'm sure the koni's aren't too hard to put together but I also like the idea of having my complete stock suspension if I ever need it. And the dspecs are supposed to be an awesome strut too, so it shouldn't be any kind of a downgrade just a bit more expensive but also quicker to put in.

TougeTuning can get dspecs if that's what you end up going with.

Hey guys just for a heads up MA(modern automotive) Performance qouted me $769.99 shipped.  Pretty descent. I though, but I ended up grand Bing those used ones off here.  Touge is great but I think that beats their price doesn't it?

BTW looking good B!  My springs are sitting at the shipping dock, pick them up tomorrow.   I ordered a bundle of random parts from subarugenuineparts.com and they were in Saskatoon in 3.5 days.  I was super impressed.   Anyways not worrying about top hats for now at least.  So d-specs will be in this week with any luck.

Yeah, I'll def shop around. Saw those two diff prices, 1k at Touge and approx 800 at other stores. I'll have to see what's the best place to order from when I'm ready to pull the trigger.

Yeah MA Performance originally said $1100 actually but I emailed back mentioning that I had been told by a friend (wsc member) was quoted $589 a couple years ago.  They responded back promptly with that other price, I couldn't believe it.  I didn't expect that real low price as things have changed a lot in two years money wise around the world.

So i did a smoke test this weekend and as i suspected my turbo inlet is torn at the clamp. So Perrin turbo inlet is on the way. I also found another leak, I originally thought it was the y-pipe gasket but had some doubt. When i got my STi intercooler there was one non stock bolt in the y-pipe and it was too long, so it hit the intercooler without tightening down on the flange. I didnt think too much of it and put some washers on it to raise it up so it didnt hit the intercooler. Well the smoke i saw coming out of what i thought was the y-Pipe gasket was actually coming from a crack in the intercooler from when the bolt was pressed down into the end tank and the pressure must have either cracked it right away or it cracked after they put it in with help from heat cycling. Well i bought this 2 months ago, and put it on around 1 month ago. The seller has replied to my first PM and basically said it has been too months that is was perfect when he had it and that it isn't his problem. We will see where it goes from here but i dont have much faith that it will turn out good. It is also in a very hard place too weld. My uncle is a welder so I'm going to see if he thinks he can do anything with it.

Here are some pics. just in front of the crack you can see the mark from the bolt pressing down on the intercooler.

just heard back from him again, he said he is willing to give me $40 back for repairs. The thing is i have no clue what it will cost to fix. It is not in a great spot to weld with the flange there you can just get your finger in there, i dont see a welder getting in the too easy. and the seal for the end tanks could get wrecked if the intercooler gets too hot.

Not sure, but looking at it, it might be easier to cut the flange right off - fix the crack - then weld the flange back on? I'd need to see some more pics of the whole flange and what not,but that might make it easier to fix.

Maybe its just me being crazy and looking for an easier fix but would something like jbweld work to fix it? The stuff is pretty tough and ive seen people use it to fix all kinds of things. And if its filling a crack and you get it down into the crack im sure it would have enough surface area to hold on strong enough.
God must love crazy people, he made a lot of them.

That is something I've thought about, but I would much rather have it fixed properly since its a part seeing boost.
Just for peace of mind so I don't have to worry about it. Depending how the welding goes I may end up trying that though.

So I got the Perrin inlet in today, overall not to bad to install, getting it under the intake manifold takes a bit of work and wiggling, it's pressing up against my FMS power steering line as I expected but it's not too bad. Stock inlet had a decent hole in it from the clamp.

My STi intercooler is being welded up, they said they could do it no problem. Can't wait to get that back on.

I'm looking at intakes now and have four that I've narrowed it down too.
I want a short ram with a heatshield, just because I don't want to have to crawl under my car and pull the fender liner back to get to my air filter.

I'm thinking either, Cobb w/ airbox and aftermaf hose (this ends up being the most because of buying the after maf hose which is not needed for the other intakes. Also the maf tube is a composite instead of aluminum so it will transfer heat less, although I'm not sure how relevant that is since the piping isn't very long on the others anyway.

K&N, not to crazy on the colours. Looks like either red or polished and it's an oiled filter as well as the cobb, which I would end up replacing with a aem dry flow just because I prefer dry filters.

SPT w/ heatshield. Dry filter as far as I know decent heatshield and I'm fine with the colour.

K&N and SPT don't look as "clean" as the others since they have no top cover

AFE, this doesn't seem to be used much in the Subaru world and I didn't even know they made one for our cars till a week ago, it has a decent heatshield with a top, but instead of being open at the front like the other three it is open towards the strut tower although it is blocked on the side towards the engine, not sure if this would actually raise intake temps much compared to the other three. I like the colour of this one (black) and I can get it with a dry filter. I can get this through work so it may end up being the cheapest option.

Does anyone know someone with experience with the AFE intake? I saw a dyno sheet on airboys website of an STI  06/07 I believe and they were running this intake so I know there is at least one person running it, haha.

I had AFE intakes on all my trucks prior to my Subaru. They were great. Good airflow, but much more filtration than k&n. If you do a bit of offroading, the AFE will be a good buy as it filters dust really well. It does flow a little less then k&n due to extra filtration characteristic in comparison to k&n.
