I believe those act more as a mud flap rather than aerodynamic pieces

Nope, they're *in front* of the wheels to direct airflow around them rather that onto the spinning surface.

Just looked at my car and I don't have them either. What are they called? Or even better what is the part#?

I don't think I have those either. Are those just for aerodynamics? Do you need the factory splash guard to install them or do they just go into the subframe/fender liners?

They attach to the fender liners and deflect air around the front tires. Part numbers for 06 WRX wagon:

I am pretty sure they do.

You can find the numbers here:

My '07 WRX had them but a couple of winter rallycross runs in deep snow tore them off.  I've been thinking of replacing them but figure they will just get destroyed when the deep snow returns.

I have one on the car, and one inside the door pocket. I got tired of having to jog across the auto-x pad to pick up the piece every time it fell off.

Hello Airboy, I'm thinking of picking up a Maddad Whisper cat back as well as their Metal Essentials catted downpipe. Since you have a Maddad TBE, was hoping you could provide with a little review?

First question, do you have their bellmouth or divorced downpipe?

Do you like it? Would you recommend it?

I'm looking for something that isnt too loud and has no drone. I mainly drive on highways with my wagon, and I need the sound and drone to be at a level that won't drive me nuts on big trips.

Could you help a wagon fellow out?

PS: as soon as Ive got it ordered and installed, expect a PM for tuning. :)

A lot of members have the Maddad system. It's probably one of the quietest systems on the market. It's louder than stock but not obnoxious. When you're hard on the throttle, you notice it but puttering around town it's quite nice and reserved. I've never had problems with the cops and it looks close to stock. Fit and finish is superb. I had the bellmouth unit on my WRX and my STI has the divorced. Both seem fine and I didn't have any problems with the bellmouth in terms of fit or boost creep, at least none that I noticed. I do mainly highway and find the Whisper is basically perfect for my needs.

I'm sure Airboy can add quite a bit to my rather sparse comments, but there's the opinion of a pleased Maddad customer.

Perfect, Thanks Amby. Thats what I wanted to hear. Now I know the Whisper catback is what I want, I just can't decide between bellmouth or divorced.  :-\

I went bellmouth on the recommendations of Rich at Maddad.

Ah ok. I sent Rich an email regarding part availability, pricing, shipping, and his recommendation regarding bellmouth or Divorced. Interested to see what he will have to say.

Amby, how quick of a turnaround did you have from ordering to the parts arriving at your front door?

I've also got the Maddad whisperback. Just the catback with the Perrin Divorced DP.

Really happy with the sound. It sounds amazing at lower RPM. Perfect little rumble IMO. It can get loud at WOT, but at that point, who cares?

Comparing it to the Borla Hush, the whisperback is a bit quieter at lower RPM but the Hush is quieter at higher RPM.

I had an easy time getting the catback from Rich. But I originally ordered it with the DP and that took forever. After over a month of delays, I cancelled that part and got the Perrin.

It's been years since I ordered but I think it was 10 days or so once the parts were in stock. When I ordered, he was in the process of changing fabricators or something to that end so there were quite a few delays but it was worth the wait.

didn't notice there were new posts here  :P
I have the divorced wastegate DP from MadDad (not sure if they even had the bell mouth version back then). the Whisper exhaust is the quietest one that I have had, compared to SPT and Vibrant. Doesn't drone on the highway, which most is hard to avoid in the wagon.

The wagon decided to reject the rear-left axle....

Made thumping noises under the car.  Thanks to the guys at Vex, I got one from a "donor" car to try, in the process of tracking the source of the noise.

Now thumping noises are gone but sqeaking/squeeling noises while turning right remains.

i wonder if the thumping was a partially seized CV joint, and that stressed the hub/bearing and that's giving you the squeaks?

does the axle you took out move freely at both cv joints?
