« on: October 08, 2011, 06:17:05 pm »
Hey guys, been a member on here for a few months now, and decided its about time I posted up a build thread of my first Subaru (all the cool kids are doing it). I already have one up on JDMVIP.com, but figured I'd put one here too. Missing couple of the mods, but they weren't all that important. I got my 1995 Subaru WRX on December 26, 2010. I had it imported by William from JDMConnection, and was pleased with both the importing process and of course the car itself. These cars' value is unbelievable, paying <$7000 for a 256 stock hp awd beast with low mileage. Days after I got it, however, the modding began  >:D

First time in Canada:

Front window tint completed, now 45% front, 20% rear

Someone decided to mod my front lights while the car was parked :(

Rally Armor installed

Prosport Performance Series Green/white boost and water temp gauges

Light damage fixed with overnight parts from japan  :P Got clear signals, and replaced sidemarkers with clear lens type

T-rex after a day of fun :D

Maintenance

Replacement HKS Filter

Had my niece repaint my hood scoop, had some fading (works at body shop)

Gold XXR 17" summer rims with Nankang NS1 summer tires (i know, i know, just gonna burn em off and get better ones)

Thought this pic looked epic, look what I found in an abandoned barn!

Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump (damn this things loud)

Rob's 440cc Tune and 91 octane remap set at 16PSI with cheap MBC, includes launch control, governor removal, and rev limiter (fixed my numerous low octane knock issues and gave MUCH more power)

Stock exhaust :(

AMK Import 3" Catless DP (car came with Fujitsubo 3" catback, so now complete 3" TBE)

Interior pic showing the stock Nardi wheel

After a wash with Rotarymelon's STi

Before:

After:

Apexi Power Intake, replacing the HKS mushroom of DOOOM

Bedtime reading ;)

One of my first car meets, with JDMVIP

Gotta rep the club

Triple Pod, STi Injectors, Oil pressure gauge/sender, Rob's 550cc tune-91 octane, 18PSI, launch control 5000rpm, higher rev limiter-WOW big difference

STi Yellow 550cc Sidefeed Injectors :D

Finally some pics of her doing her job, at a track event in Saskatoon hosted by Slo_Sti. Pics are copyrighted by Appl Photography

That's all I can think of for now, will post below whenever I get some new updates.

Here's a few more photos of some of the mods I did.

Apexi Power Intake

Blox manual boost controller (same as Hallman, ceramic ball and 3 different springs come with it)

WRX Radiator shroud built by RA Motorsports

WSC Decals!

Completed the look

Wow man that looks excellent. Ultimate sleeper I might add, is that what your going for?

But side note, I think you should let all of us JDM owners know where you got your leather shift boot, because I was thinking we all have a group buy, then have a meet where we throw our disgustingly hideous and vulgar stock shift boots in a burning pit of FIRE!!!

that is all
I used it on my old legacy, I just poored the whole can in the gas tank and enjoyed white smoke all week

the fire probably wont happen, since the leather shift boot is over top of the rubber stock one  ;D

nailed it! :D

And thanks, main reason its sleeper is cause too cheap to buy new spoiler/aero parts, but I like the sleeper aspect of it too. Basically done most performance mods I had planned, doing a few interior/exterior aesthetic stuff and then it will be suspension+brakes in spring

I think my shift boot has met a fiery death in the burning barrel already  >:D

Little update, painted my winter 16" oem wheels with Grimmspeed gold wheel paint (colormatched exactly to BBS gold). Didn't want to lose the gold when winter came along haha. Anyway, think it turned out pretty well:

Before

Progress (love the cards approach, much easier than tape/newspaper).

Finished product :D

Set them next to my car, should look good!

I highly recomend grimmspeed gold paint, looks awesome and the whole rim painting process is really easy.

-Cleaned wheels with water
-Wetsanded with 400 grit 3M wet/dry paper (by hand)
-Rinsed each wheel again to remove sanded paint
-2 coats of grey all purpose primer, ~15min between each coat
-3 coats of Grimmspeed gold paint, 15min between each coat

Instructions say to let them dry overnight, but it will be a while before I put them on so no issue with drying time.

Ended up using about a can and a half of grimmspeed paint, didnt take much cause there aren't that many spokes with the stock rims.

Got my triple pod installed, but my Prosport water temp gauge suddenly itshay the bed :(. going to send it in for testing and hopefully a new replacement. So till then I have an empty hole in the pod haha.

Will post some pics once I have em all in and functioning. Got a wideband on the way too, so gonna have gauges galore when that gets here.

Yeah man, just went through your build today, soon to add another part to the list ;)

Looks good, I'd like to take a closer look at your manual boost controller, how you set it up. Got some TurboSmart ones at work I was thinking of running in the wagon. Also, you'll need to take me for a rip one of these wing nights, show me the tune!

Oh, also. Here's a little update.

Got my Prosport Wideband in a few days ago, super easy install thanks to my aftermarket DP having a bung in the perfect spot with the same thread as the wideband sensor.

Wanted it analog to match the rest of my gauges, and it turns out to be very accurate during WOT
I'll put up a pic of all my gauges together once I get the water temp back from prosport (they should be sending me a new one cause it stopped working >:( )

UPDATE:

1.) Prosport is sending me a new water temp gauge, which makes me  ;D
2.) Changed out my plugs for one step colder, NGK BKR7E, my iridiums were pretty white... (though my afs look fine?)

3.) On my last day today with the summer tires on, I tested the effects of the 550 tune:

4.) Got the winter rims on, love the look of em, wish they were 17" though, car seems like even more of a sleeper now

Still having an annoying high boost stutter issue, but some other goodies have been arriving lately :D

A teaser of my facelift hood that I picked up from PicknPull today. Also got headlights and the newer style honeycomb grill. Hood/grill will be painted hopefully sometime this coming week, need quite a bit of rockchip repair.

Picked up a Cobb lightweight crank pulley from Way_Gone, MAN is this thing light! The stock one I could hardly pick up with one hand haha.

Impressions so far:

Much easier rev-matching on downshifts, feels much more fluid.
Starting is likely easier on the starter motor with less resistance, didn't really notice any though
Revs up much quicker, launch control seems to bounce a bit more rapidly off the limiter
Car in general feels quicker off-boost with the reduced restriction
Didn't get to really test out full acceleration with it due to my boost issues, but I'm guessing the car would be a bit quicker

Good mod I'd say :D (plus it looks shiny ;) )

Nice score with the hood, gotta love Pick n Pull. Plus now I'm not the only one with a stupidly heavy new-age hood!

You find it that heavy? Doesn't seem bad to me, but I don't have it on the car yet so maybe after lifting it a few times to do work I'll notice.

Not too worried about the weight gained from my stock hood, the aesthetics make it worth it and I don't think its going to be a huge difference in power.
