Matt, check the thermalpaste application make sure they did it right.  Also, if the system has been OC try to get the BSOD message, there is a guide somewhere on Overclock.net for OC that will give you a general idea what the BSOD was related to, i.e. not enough voltage for the CPU and some other stuff.

But if it is heat, check the thermal paste, and make sure the heatsink is tightened down correctly.

My setup:

Intel Core i7 950 @ ~3.07GHz (not OCed)
12 GB (2x 6GB kits) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM
ASUS Sabretooth X58 mobo
ASUS nVidia GTX470
2x WD Velociraptor 150GB 10k RPM HDDs in RAID 0 (OS Disk)
Thecus N4100 Pro NAS with 4x 2TB 7200 RPM HDDs for media + whatever
2x Dell U2410 (24" LCD) monitors

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (which was free, I'd be running Home Premium otherwise)

Personally, I'm moving away from OCing because honestly it's not necessary anymore. A Core i7 will demolish everything you put in front of it at the stock frequency. I'd rather have a stable, quiet system than some ridiculous fan-filled monstrosity I have to shut off to keep my sanity.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite criticism.

Oh man, I built my first and current PC when I was 16.
Quad core AMD Phenom 3ghz w/ 8gb ram w/ ATI 6950 or something currently.

I used to play WoW back in wotlk with a ton of people, but when everyone got older (18 now) we all kinda moved on, became so boring without people on
to help feed those nights after a long day of work and you can't sleep. Was a fun game. I miss the old times in it.

Mainly only use this machine now for Photoshop CS5 with some extremely resourceful editing, Sony Vegas for some light video stuff, that's about it.

Contemplating building a new one or upping this sometime in the future.

Just finished painting it Satin Black and it looks pretty darn good in person, can't wait to put it all back together and see how it turned out.  I got 1 run on the right side of the HDD tray holder so I decided it wasn't worth the trouble of sanding out and re-applying.. all in all pretty good for a couple hours of work.

side note: No top coat was used as I wanted a flat/chalky look to it and not reflective as the case is brushed aluminium.

PSU and video card arrived today so I decided to test them out to make sure they worked

All temps are in Celsius

Before:

CPU:  44 - idle
GPU:  37 - idle (ATI 6670)

CPU:  56 - BF3 medium settings
GPU:  50 - BF3 medium settings (ATI 6670)

After (so much dust..):

CPU: 32 - idle
GPU: 44 - idle  (ATI 6850)

CPU: 45 - BF3 on Ultra
GPU: 70-72 - BF3 on Ultra  (ATI 6850)

I just want to point out the huge difference between the CPU temps before/after and all I did was blow out the dust in the heatsink.. amazing.   The card runs a bit hot but doesnt seem to stagger so I am happy with that, and this will be a good comparison to see if the newer case has better airflow which translates to lower temps.

Got a couple things delivered the other day including the replacement case fans.. I am also extremely happy about how the painting turned out as it matches the exterior brushed aluminium pieces perfectly. I made a few alterations to the build plan but it will be for the better.. more on that later.

*edit: for some reason photbucket doesn't want to save the rotation edits i made.

build is done! Everything works as expected and I will be re-doing all the cabling either saturday or sunday to clean up the hunk of mess. I had one scary moment when i realized the new board doesnt have a spot for an IDE cable for my DVD drive so i drove like mad to OTVTech and picked up a $20 DVD drive that would work. I only need it for a few discs then it will be put into the closet. Stay tuned as I will probably be going 7950 in crossfire with an ivy bridge soon!

I'm in love with that case. How much did it cost?

Quick update. got all the software installed and updates completed then i dove right into overclocking.  Currently sitting at 4.5GHz (1.312v) and after 2 hours thus far of Prime95 (100% CPU) the core temp is sitting at a balmy 60 degrees. It's very possible with this cooler I can go up to 4.7GHz or slightly more.. will be an interesting test once i get the cabling sorted out so air can flow a bit better.

I'm in love with that case. How much did it cost?

The case itself was 290 from a local store, or DirectCanada.com. I painted the interior and all pieces black and ordered the 4th HDD cage (only comes with 3) which cost around 40 dollars + 30 for duty etc. Its quite an expensive case but man is it ever beautiful with all 4 fans lit up in the front.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm running the Antec 900 advanced, which has a similar feature, but it's much smaller, which is a little frustrating, as well as the total lack of cable management. I had to pick up a dremel just so I could get all the cables in order, so I could finally stick that second 560ti in.

If I had to do it all over again I would probably pick up a different case.. either a Corsair 800D or a Lian Li P80-NB or actually I would probably pick up a Reverse ATX case.. those look pretty swanky.  The 77F doesn't have too much room to work with cables and it's definitely meant to just house a bunch of hardware and not have anyone see the insides (i think every lian li case is like that) but eventually this will see a clear side window and some extra LED's.

Nice setup! What cooler do you have right now? You should be able to pump that up to 4.7GHz on air cooling if you have a decent cooler.  I would definitely go closed loop CPU cooler for going around 5GHz though, once the Ivy Bridge comes out I will probably upgrade to that system as well!   The air cooler I have right now is really freaking massive (and heavy), I thought for sure it would look tiny in this giant of a case but I was wrong, it sits maybe an inch 1/2 (maybe less) away from the side of the case.. I play BF3 if you want to add me up! Name: MischiefDynasty

On another note my friend kevin and myself took to cleaning up the wires in the case and this is the result, I think it looks 10x better.

I'm horrible with cables, but after working with my friend on cleaning it up I realized how easy it is.. You just start with 1 cable and figure where to run it and it sort of blossoms from there.  This case isnt even that great for cable management and it still looks okay.. the Corsair 800D would likely be the best but owell.

Side question.. who is into LAN Tournaments?

My OCD is more that things have to be even and perfect.. Like oil changes haha. I currently do one every 5k but the oil is a bit darker than I like so the next best would be every 3k, but then that would mean I would be doing oil changes every 3k and thats not even.. so I have to switch it down to 2.5k.   With my computer it's not so bad, cables never really bothered me but after seeing some crazy awesome computers where I couldn't see any cables at all it made me realize how ugly mine was.  I can still see some fan cables but i'm not too worried about it haha.. it already runs about 2 degrees cooler just from cleaning up the mess.

I've always wanted to go to one, but my gaming lately has become increasingly diminished to just MMO's and MOBA's.
