Roof rack for ski/board
« on: January 23, 2012, 05:15:08 pm »
Saw the old topic and read through it just figured I would bring it up again since its been a few years and there may be new products out there.  I have an 05 sti and would like to put a roof rack for skis on it figured I would ask for suggestions.

I'm running the Yakima whispbar flush style rack, I'm pretty sure they make an application for every car, i think its fairly universal. But it's wicked, can't hear a sound from it a highway cruising speed, even with the sun roof open it's decently quiet.

I used to run those generic Thule bars + ski/snowboard clamps.  I found them easy as heck to use, but I hated the fact that the gear would get pummeled with road debris on nasty days.  I have now picked up one of those giant roof boxes...and absolutely love it.  In fact the roof box is quieter than the clamps were.  Even when not in use, you can store soo much stuff in there.  I'm probably bias for Thule gear though cause i work for them :)

Either way, loving that stuff.

You work for Thule?  Nice...

Find out why their boxes sell for so much more in Canada than they do in the US.

Example, a Boxter goes for $1200 here in Canada (incl. taxes), or $800 in US (specifically Bellevue, WA where I could get one for $800US and no taxes) .  $400 delta to account for "market differences" or "dollar parity" is BS.

They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?

I'd also like to know why such a huge price difference.
I wanted to get a rack and a box for awhile but spending just over $1k for a rack and box
seems to be a little much IMO.

I also would like to know  :o

To be honest, our employee pricing is more in Canada than it is for the ones in the states...its nuts...I don't understand it!

But I can't deny, their pricing its crazy for those boxes...however now having had one...I absolutely love it.  Would never have been able to afford one if I didn't work for them!

That I do.  As for a group discount I could always ask.  I can't guarantee anything but theirs no harm in asking.

My favorite place is Racks Unlimited off Mcleod Trail before Glenmore.

They have enormous inventory (in stock, no waiting) and the guys there are very helpful.
