So, I lucked out and acquired a bottle of Glenmorangie Artein this weekend.

Wow, that's all I can say!

Cracked open a bottle of Gibson's Finest Rare 18 Year Old recently (thanks Wrxtasy!). I can't go into details about the nose and all the tasting notes because my taste for this kind of drink is still developing, but it is very delicious, very smooth. What I could decipher was vanilla, caramel/toffee, and a little bit of fresh cut wood. Anyone else tried it?

Anyone else tried it?

Never tried any Gibson's Finest.  The Rare sounds like it has a spicyness/heat to it.  Did you notice that?

It is a highly recommended whisky, so I definitely want to try it.

Hey.  Now ill start by saying Scotch isnt my thing.  I cant handle it.

BUT.

I am wondering if anyone knows where i can get a bottle of this

Sortilege (NOT THE 375ml.  I dont want the ice wine bottle.  I want a bigger bottle and thus far have only located ice wine sized bottles)

Update - I answered my own question.  no 750ml bottles live in alberta.  looks like ill have to get one while in ontario.  uckfay.

Bruichladdie 18yr is still the easiest to access in my cupboard.  Usually a Dalwhinnie 12 or better and a Lagavulin somehwere in there as well.

I'm also a fan of Glenmorangie, Usually Quinta Ruban, Lasanta, or I've even had Astar.  Never tried the Artein.
My other car is an AMC '86 Eagle.

I always have a bottle of Quinta Ruban on hand, it's one of my go to scotches.   The Artein is a Private Edition and not yet available in Canada.

Which is your fav Glenmorangie?

As inexpensive as it sounds, I still like the original and Quinta Ruban.  I haven't bought anything more $$A$ then the Lasanta (so I don't know the more expensive ones), but I would love to try Finealta.

My favourites are (in no particular order): Lagavulin, Macallan, and Glenmorangie.  My one-time crown jewel (finished now :( ) was a Glenmorangie 30-y.o. given to me as a gift on my 30th birthday.

Haven't had much opportunity to tip back a dram lately.  I should make sure the stoppers haven't dried out from lack of use...  :P

You definitely have to make the time for it!  I find myself breaking out the scotch once every 6-8 weeks.  Pretty much whenever me or my neighbor gets a new bottle to try.

Got myself a bottle of Balvenie Portwood 21yr to try this weekend.  Very excited about it.

I'd love to, but my responsibilities nowadays are such that I am feeling pretty dead by the time I get home.  Straight to bed most nights!   :-[

Reading this makes me want to go out and buy a bottle. It's been a while since I've enjoyed an nice whisky. My friends and I used to go out quite a bit for whisky back home. A collegue of mine is quite the aficionado and had be over for a tasting a few months ago when I was down. I forget all of the ones that I tried there. My favourite that I can remember that I've had is 18yr RedBreast.

I know it's a rez, so my apologies. Are any of you still drinking scotch much lately? And is Kensington still the place to go while in Calgary? How is Bin 905? I'll be out in April and am thinking I want to bring back a bottle or 2 to Winnipeg of what I can't lay my hands on here at home. Something like the Ardbeg Uigeadail, Bowmore 18, Bruichladdich Octomore 4.2? something of that order.

Kensington wine market is still a recommended local vendor.

Yeah, KWM is definitely the place to go for Scotch in Calgary. They host the semi-regular Scotch tasting nights... which are always packed.

Picked up these last time:

Really enjoying the Tullibardine.

Also, for my birthday, my wife got me this:

Haven't tried it yet, but here's the writeup on it:
Quote
This is a superb single malt whisky from one of Speyside's most famous distilleries, bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. Whilst we can't tell you which distillery it is from, we can say that it is one known for its independence and for its massively sherried whiskies.

The label is adorned with a comic book-style illustration of a sneaky man breaking through the famous red doors of one of the distillery's warehouses to pinch maturing whisky from a cask!

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish comic book-style labels.

This is Batch 1 - a release of 486 bottles.

My guess (red door) is that it is a Glenfarclas

I've shied away from scotches lately and been focusing more on Irish, Canadian, and American whiskies.

I'm loving Pendleton's 1910 whisky; it's really something special for a $50 bottle (I've considered buying more to hoard).

Great link, thank you!
As to scotch, so much delicious bottles to try. I have about 20 different open bottles currently and there are a number more that I really want to try. Of the scotches I've really enjoyed, especially those from limited runs or special editions, I've got a 2nd bottle still sealed so that I can open them 10-20years down the road and remember them again.

question about Bin905. KWM is sold out apparently of both the Uigeadail and the Octomore, at least according to their website. I found Bin905, @ 2311 4 Street SW, which apparently has both in store. Has anyone heard of this location and how are they?

IIRC, Silent bought his beer advent calendar from them.  I never been there myself so I wouldn't know.

Sounds good, I just want to make sure they are a reputable store that I could go and put in a phone purchase before I get there in a few weeks to ensure I have those bottles saved for me. Thanks for the quick reply Hound.
