Thank you ^^^

Finally have some time to update this.

Well I FINALLY finished welding the manifold.  Turned out wild but holy moly was it a lot of work.  Now I just need to wait for my second wastegate to arrive then I’ll build the dump tubes.  Those will be a neat design too!

Got my intercooler core mounted, and trimmed bumper to fit the new thicker core.  Hood is also back on and clears everything nicely.

Head is going to the machine shop Tuesday to get resurfaced, then I will rebuild it with the new springs and cams.

Rear subframe also arrived and I coated my diff at the shop.  I’ll be rebuilding it tomorrow and doing a rear end test fit to measure my driveshaft and get that ordered.

Things are finally falling in place but I still have lots to do.

Im trying my hardest to have it running and out to Calgary for Driven early May.  It’s a stretch but I’m busting A$$ to get it done while not cutting corners. I should have a half decent update after this weekend!

That is some good pace. I am very interested in the electronics, ECU, and tuning aspects of the swap.

Update time.

I’ve been pretty much working on this thing daily to try to get it running.  Got my dual pass rad setup mounted up, which was a big thing on my to-do list.  I recessed it in and under my removable chromoly rad support to give as much fan clearance as I can.  Still will be snug.

Also got the differential rebuilt finally.   That sucked.

I got all my rear end components powder coated now and it’s ready for final assembly! Exciting.  My Precisin Shaft Tech 3” chromo driveshaft with 1350 u-joints will be here Monday as well.

Because I’m not running the u shaped subframe I decided to make a front end brace using 4130 chromo.  Turned out super mint.

I also got the head torn apart and resurfaced. Also had to replace one cracked valve guide.  I cleaned and lapped all valves/seats and have reinstalled them with GSC stem seals, and Manley spring with Ti retainers.  Should pair nicely with my cams.

Now the engine is coming back out to put the head on, final assemble the clutch and do some final tweaks.

I can kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel.  It’s faint but it’s there.  Lol

Now some pics.

No V mount? Unsubscribed.

Are you planning on doing some sort of support bracket for the turbo/manifold? It protrudes quite a bit past the block.

Ya I’ll likely do a small support to help.  Should be simple.

It’s been a while so I figured it’s time for an update!

This project is definitely taking a lot of work to do correctly but that’s ok with me.  I just need it done  before mid July.  Hoping to maybe have it fired up in a month or so.

After the last update I got my rear end assembled and installed.  It was an absolute battle and not a bolt-in affair.  Regardless it’s in for good and looks badass! My new Precision Shaft Tech 3” chromo 1350 jointed driveshaft fits like a glove too.  Really nice piece.

I was sick of having my fuse box hiding behind my bumper so I made a recessed box for it to sit in on the side of the bay.  Will be 100% accessible and hidden from site.  Turned out great.

After that I repainted my bay once I was finished filling a few more unused openings.  Just black.

Then I powder coated a million other things including engine mounts, subframe, sway bars, knuckles etc.  Then made custom front stub shafts to finish the RWD conversion.

Installed the front subframe and front suspension.   Looks sooooo good! Nice to see it start coming together.

I then did a complete overhaul on my Brembo calipers and shaved the rears to fit a 15” wheel when the time comes.

Then I installed my head for good with the arp 625+ head studs and APEXi head gasket, set all the valve lash for the new Kelford T202-d Cam’s and buttoned up the top end.

I started installing the new triple disk OS Giken clutch then realized I need to align the QuickTime bellhousing so I had to order the indexing plate which will arrive this coming week.  Really nice clutch though.  Never seen anything like it up close.  Curious to see what it feels like.

And that pretty much sums up the last month.

Next on the hit list is:
-final clutch install and then motor/trans go in for good.
-fab wastegate dump tubes
-fab IC pipes and IC endtanks
-fab exhaust (hoping to fit 4”)
-install new Tilton clutch master to power the Tilton hydraulic release bearing
-Then wiring!

Better get busy hahah.

:O  That fuse box solution is the cleanest relocation I've seen.  I think I'm more jealous of that of everything else here!

And 15" rears?  :O  It's going to be such a mind warp seeing an STI with huge drag radials in the back.

Since the last update I’ve been busy!

Aligned bellhousing to within .00075 parallel, and .0025 concentric, which is WELL within spec. Setup the hydraulic release bearing/clutch then mated it all together for good.

Motor/trans went in beatifully and is now in its final resting place.  I spent the last week fabricating the IC endtanks and IC pipes.  Tight fit but it all fits very well. First time ever welding endtanks, but I’m pretty pleased with them.

Now to start on the exhaust, a few cooling system things and a bunch of other bits & pieces.

Getting there.

Put a 4g63 in just to rustle jimmies.

Good thing you went 2J, 4g63 has been done now haha
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

Update! Sorry for the delay.

I’ve been wildly busy working away on this thing to get it on the road.  Which is why I haven’t updated in a while.

Since the last post I built my exhaust, which is a full 4” oval system with single straight through muffler.  Also built my wasetegate dump tube setup to come up through my turbo manifold and out of the hood.  Both turned out exactly how I imagined!

Then I made my catch can/rad overflow combo.   Also turned out nicely. Internally baffled and draws vacuum from intake.

Then we powder coated my intake manifold in a wild honeycomb pattern!

Finally it was time modify the Haltech harness and to run the harness in the car. Naturally there was some trouble shooting along the way.  Got it done tho!

Then came the glorious first start.  1 year and 2 days after my EJ exploded, the 2jz came to life.

Now I’m just starting to break in the drive train with easy driving around town. Low load and under 4500rpm. Good lord does it sound wild though!!!! It’s going to be an absolute beast once tuned.   The idle is mean and while driving the exhaust note is very smooth.  Likely from the manifold design.

Things I’ve noticed while driving so far...
-doesn’t feel any different in the steering than before
-the triple disc clutch is incredibly streetable.  Amazed really
-the t56 magnum gearing with the 4.30 rear gears is spot on.
-and the 2jz just feels like it wants to go!!!! WOT is going to be right naughty

Just waiting on my BTI dash to arrive in about a week and then that’s basically it for parts.

I do have a vibration at 120km/h but I’ll be diagnosing that tonight.

Also won a few awards at the Driven show which was very cool!

If all goes well the tune will be later in August.

Oval exhaust, big oof. Me gusta. Whats the pricing of oval tubing like vs standard round tubing. And when you say 4" oval is that the width? Or its equivalent cross section to 4" round tubing?

It’s about 80% more expensive but was required to even think about fitting a 4” system under an Sti.  4” refers to it was once a 4” round tube that was ovalized.
