The Intro
I had an s2000, and a Civic... But this is a Western Subaru Club so that's not gonna interest you guys.

We'd been keeping an eye out for an '06 STI, but they just weren't coming up for sale, or not at a good price, or too modded.

I wasn't _really_ wanting WRB, as we'd "been there, done that"... But black wasn't an option, CGM was taken, and AW just wasn't coming up for sale.

Ultimatt, of course, bombarded me with every friggin craigslist/kijiji/ebay/autotrader/780tuner/WSC link that was even semi-relevant... That boy loves car shopping.  Want to shop? Just tell him!

Welcome to the new winter beater!

100% stock, no exhaust, no suspension.  The only mods on it are some 18" SSR Type F (They'll be getting 245/40R18 autox tires on them come spring) and some tint that I may or may not remove from the front windows...

Has OEM goldies w/o tires in the trunk, they'll be getting winters on them next fall.

I think you all know what a stock engine looks like:

The Plan
Being an auto-xer I'm (of course) keeping an eye on the rulebook & where I want to play.  So staying STU legal is an idea.  But mostly, as long as the s2000 is mine then this is the designated "Winter Beater".  That means any mods can't make it any worse at that.  No coilovers, no springs, maybe not even swaybars.

As for power mods...  I've been driving Hondas, it's plenty of power as is.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy

(They'll be getting 245/40R18 autox tires on them come spring)

So you're going to autox this AND the s2000?
Go home Subaru. You're drunk.

You could always park it at a rallycross, after giving it a thorough thrashing.

I need a way for it to follow people around, like the punishment car in a Top Gear challenge...

How hard would it really be to get a Civic to be stolen?

Congratulations on this totally gorgeous car.

Man, it's not _Worth_ having theft on...  Would you mind plowing into it in some sort of "at fault but non injuring" method?

Congratulations on this totally gorgeous car.

Thanks man.

Out of the number of things my recent psychological evaluation revealed, "willing to accept fault" is absolutely not one of them.

The engine looks quite dirty compared to the pics im used to seeing from your cars grant.

*At least i think it was you that had pics where the engine bay still looked fresh off the line.*
God must love crazy people, he made a lot of them.

So, this car might be "news" to some of you, but to me it was nothing but an inevitability...

So, let's see what mods I "just happen to have" in my basement.

RallyArmor skidplate?

Grab handle delete plugs?

JDM red hazard button?

Aluminum dead pedal?

Trunk cargo net?

Defis?

Subaru winter mats?

*At least i think it was you that had pics where the engine bay still looked fresh off the line.*

I'm working on it.

So, the gas gauge and level sender seem to be working...  Light came on, I drove around 20km, and put more than 50L in!

(Of course, I've probably cocked it up by putting H94 in it...)

Congrats Grants! I always figured you'd be back in a subaru before too long. Is it 06 or 07?

06.

I specifically was waiting for an '06.  And now that I've bought it I can proselytize why without shooting myself in the foot.
  • Last year with shorter gearing.
  • Last year with clutch type rear diff.
  • First year with steering position sensor info in DCCD
  • Better headlights than '05
  • Better stock tune than '07
  • Last year without the air pump
  • Better looking stock headlights/taillights than '07
  • First year with 41/59 tq split
  • First year with mechanical LSD in center diff in addition to the electronic one.
  • Last year of sodium filled exhaust valves
  • First year with roof vane spoiler.

Also, Canadian Car!
  • Celsius climate control
  • Celsius outside temp
  • Heated seats
  • Heated side mirrors
  • Passthrough

When ever someone works on their car at someone else's place, you show up with the Civic.  "If you don't finish with your car, you get to go home in this"
