Re: NEL's Big Blue Project: Finally some rubber

Welcome!

A year ago I would not have imagined me driving a GC8. I had it all planned. Wait and get a Evo 6.
Then my girlfriend wanted to sell her sunfire. Justification. Sell her car, give her my lancer, get Subaru.
I originally looked at a white GC8 being sold by JDM tuners INC. But that sold even before I could think about getting the cash.
So I sat on it for a while. I actually gave up on buying one. Girl friend was still driving the sunfire so i wasn't in a rush to sell.
A guy who I talked to about importing sent me an email about 2 months after the GC8 sold and BOOM. Like magic. Back on the hunt.
I found the 97 i drive now for sale by GC8GUY on Kijiji. Looked at it, went for a spin. Fell in love. I was set. This was my next car.
Got it and decided to make a Track capable/ DD. I'm big on Performance>Looks. Sure looking cool in a parking garage is fun but the tracks where its at.
I don't have a lot of pictures of it (Sadly) my brother has more   :-\

So, as some of the people who go to the Calgary Tims meet. I banged the fender up a little.

(Nice fat finger KYLE!)
And the fog light. AAAAANNNDDDD the marker light.
Got my brother-in-law to hook me up

And commence fixerating!

As you can see by the lack of snow in the last picture. Took a bit. About 3.5 hours but had to reshape the fender braces.
So now my car looks like this:

Colour matched fender and everything. Looks great.

Also changed the mods list and stuffs.  ;D ;D

I got some new things recently.

TiC Klunk Killer Comfort (Thanks Julian, someone go buy his butt spacers)

Shameless plug on my brothers 1420 Power Enterprise Turbo for his SR20.

And I bought these a little bit back but wanted something to keep in case this thread ran dry

Front and Rear Stay bushings. Also, bushings for the shifter to fix that slop.

they're not really that bad, just need to experiment with a few different extensions to fit the back plugs as they are tight to the engine bay walls.

So, some updates.
My car ran like a bag of dicks this morning. Shuddering and shaking even with the idle at 1300 RPM. so after asking Tom what plugs, I got em.
(And auto value had them in stock, suprised there)
Plugs I picked up were NGK BKR6EIX (6418)

Did the plugs. I don't know how the 20Gs are for plugs, but I did the 20K plugs in under 20 minutes (First time a WRX).
Easy peasy. I will help anyone in Calgary do em.
Here are the pics

Cylinder 2

NO GAP. AT ALL.

and cylinder 1 or 3

TOO. MUCH. GAP.
Also, the plugs I pulled out were NGK PFR6B
Now I see why this thing hated the cold.

Also did the TiC Klunk Killer Comfort bushings....sorta.

I did the plates on either side where you sandwich the one under a top hat and another in the bushing its self.
That was dumb. No room on the passenger side, but the driver side I did in 5 minutes.
Was going to do a DIY but felt it was covered.
Now for the almost. Where the hell do these bushings go on a GC8?

I looked and the 2002+ have a little frame thing, but mine doesn't.

Yep, our cars don't have that plate, so to do those you would need to lower the diff I believe. That's the reason I just did the outrigger ones

And yeah, it seems like the 20k's different valve cover design makes plugs even easier to do

Also noticed the valve covers are both leaking.  I thought it was just the passenger side, but its starting to seap from the top on the driver side.  Gonna do valve covers and engine mounts a t the same time.  And I couldn't locate a restrictor pill. At all.  I'm going to take each line off 1 by 1 and search but I think I'm going to go to Subaru and the the 1 mm pill

18x8.5 rims will not fit without coilovers and a fair amount of fender modification. 17x8.5s should fit with coilovers, a roll, and a slight pull.
I'm planning 17x9 this summer and am anticipating a bunch of problems...  :-\

yeah I was looking at that on 2.5RS yesterday. There's a set of 18x9.5 rims for sale right now up north that I like but it takes a lot of chopping.

Re: NEL's Big Blue Project Stupid Clutch
« Reply #18 on: February 18, 2013, 11:17:02 pm »
Anyone who watches the JDM section knows that my clutch started to go a little while ago and now its to the point it sucks to drive. So me and my brother started to tackle it today. What can I say, this uckfaying sucks. I hate, hate, HATE doing clutches. First time doing it on a Subaru. Downpipe was a mess to take out, Axle springy-things are a itchbay. Gave up for tonight and went home. (Doing it in my sisters garage) Gonna drop the transmission tomorrow. First have to go get my girlfriends car from Red Deer after the stupid, uckfaying rad went. I HATE THIS WEEK. but I can't wait to break the clutch in, install a GS MBC and put it to 14 PSI.

Exedy stage 1 organic. Seemed like a good bet, i'll let you know.
And pulling the engine was not the easier way because my sisters garage can barely handle my subaru. Its a damn cupboard.

Yea let me know! Dropping the tranny is a lot simpler than pulling the engine and having to label/remember where everything goes IMO

So I'm having a itshay time getting the transmission out.  all the linkage is out. all nuts and bolts are out. Shaking it is not doing anything. Tried a prybar and tapping into the top. nothing. My brother and me both looked for other bolts and nada. This is getting ridiculous. I feel by the end of this I can help and change a clutch on all GC8.
