Recommended All-You-Can-Eat Sushi in Vancouver
« on: April 11, 2013, 09:03:27 am »
So I'm heading out to Vancouver/Whistler this sunday and would like to stuff my face at an all-you-can-eat sushi joint. I've done the whole google thing and I could easily pick a place but I am wondering if anyone on here has a place that they would recommend. We would like to so sunday when we get into the city so anywhere along the airport to Whistler corridor preferably. Also, please keep in mind that we will have a vehicle with all of our gear in it and so I'd like to avoid sketchy areas or somewhere that doesn't have parking on site.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I think Samuri has all you can eat. They're gargantuan rolls as well. Not the best quality compared to some other places around the city, but good bang for buck.

Honestly. Vancouver Sushi is so good and cheap that I wouldn't go to an All-You-Can-Eat place. Its simply not worth it. I can stuff myself at my favourite sushi restaurant for less than $20 in Vancouver.

If you're willing to try something other than All-You-Can-Eat, check out Kadoya on Davie near Burrard. Amazing sushi and its cheap... $3.50-$4.50 per roll. $8 for their large special rolls.

In fact, I'll be eating there tomorrow :)

Aji Taro, Richmond.
It's been about 3 years since I was there, so I hope it's still as good as I remember.

While not-all-you-can-eat is also cheap in vancouver, I'd argue that it is completely worth it.

My favs, probably because they're not frequented by pretentious hipsters (at least not when I've been going).

Octopus Garden
Kimura
Kaide
Sushi Sen, in Squamish

Typically I go for quality when out there.. if I want quantity I'll go to Ebei and pig out.  Kimura used to work some pretty nice French restaurants, so his style is pretty unique.  He's got an excellent Omakase, good value too, compared to others like Tojo's.  Reservations recommended everywhere you go.  You can pig out at decent places all over Oilberta, so I'd recommend going for the experience of good sushi out there.
They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?

Thanks for the recommendations so far guys.

Yeah, it doesn't necessarily have to be all-you-can-eat, I just figured it would be best bang for your buck. $3.5-4 for a roll is awesome! I'm used to seeing $12-14 for a roll of "sushi" up here so I have never had the chance to stuff myself up here on sushi.

I might hit up that palce in Squamish as I'm paranoid someone will break into our vehicle and steal all our stuff if we were to stop in downtown Van, Richmond et al.

Ha. So you're going to avoid stopping in the nicest city in Canada because you're afraid someone's going to steal your stuff? Come on.

I've parked my car in van loaded up with my road trip gear and had no problems. I get paranoid..... when you start adding up the costs of camera gear, camping/hiking gear clothing, computers etc it makes you paranoid. But again, never had an issue.

Honestly you just have to be smart about what you have laying around insight in your car, leave as much stuff as possible in your trunk (I would even put my jacket in the trunk if I wasn't using it) take your head-unit off if you can if your leaving, and don't leave change or iPods out in the open.

Also hananokie is a really good chain sushi place, went there all the time cause it was in walking distance From my house :)

Worst place to drive PERIOD is richmond. If you get out of there without a new dent, you're doing well.

I suggested going to Sushi Star in downtown Van. on Nelson st. Really small place but the rolls are cheap, unique, and amazing. if you are still hungry after there take a walk down Robson and hit up the Ramen shop Ramen Santouka. There will be a wait but it is definitely worth it. Get the Pork Cheek noodles.

I agree with this, I was driving around Richmond in february. SO many people make quick lane changes(so fast their signal only blinks once), almost got lane changed into 4 times in a 10 minute drive..

Aww I miss Vancouver. It's been too long.

I'll agree with Zaider and others, all you can eat isn't so important when rolls are all under $5. In Vegas it was $18 for a damn veggie roll!

I like Iki Sushi on west broadway across from Safeway.
Sake Maki on Commercial is really good too.
I can't rember names of any other ones I tried (lots) but those are the ones we keep going back to now.

And don't be afraid to park your car anywhere but Hastings overnight. Unless you have really shirty karma and leave really nice stuff visible you'll be fine.

If you haven't been to Stanley Park, go. The Chinese Cultural Gardens (Dr. Sun Yat Sen gardens) are also really cool in china town.

We're spending most of our trip in Whistler  >:D, but we may come down for an evening to spend some more time in the city. We have both been to Stanley Park before and love it.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys, and I am so stoked for this trip.  ;D
