Day 1 - Stock 02 WRX. 100,000km. Mint shape. I don't have any pics of Sunny doing the first road tune but thats what happened right off the bat!

In goes a Cobb turbo back, with Tomei headers and up-pipe.

Sunny makes the necessary adjustments

I drive it some ;)

Android Dash Project happens http://www.westernsubaruclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=29340.0

Brakes are worn out with a bad shimmy!

Painted the side skirts to match

Headlights were getting pretty milky

Had a ripped inlet hose and this all happened!!

Sunny shows me how I traded quick spool for top end ;) I figure its only temporary anyways. Might as well experience lag and a longer pull!

Thanks for toughing it out through my picture intensive thread!!

I can't tell either, but if I had to guess, I would say vf-39.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Yeah I thought that too but he mentions lag which got me curious. The VF39 doesnt have that much pronounced lag... does it?.

Than the TD04? Yes. It's not that bad. Full spool at 4200 on a 2L.

It's a VF39. It spools at 4600rpm (Partly because of my after market headers! My bad on that choice!). So compared to my TD04 it feels laggy. However, when the power comes on, it comes on in spades!

Gotcha.

Yeah, 4600 compared to a TD-04 is definetly in my "pronounced" lag category.

Fried cylinder #3 coil pack! :( I suppose with all the Dyno runs and the extra heat being above the Uppipe it was bound to happen. That and it's going to roll over 170,000km. Anyone got these for sale?

So it's been 120 days since my last update. Winter happened and so did some annoying problems. However since I have been working on my car almost everyday this spring it's time for a little update as to what's gone down. Last summer I did a turbo swap with some big injectors/TGV deletes/boost controller etc. While I was under the hood I took the time to replace the fuel lines and install the crawford AOS. In my mind since everything had new hoses and gaskets and a fresh oil change. I was in the clear for a little while. Hahaha

Thing is. When I first got this car I was so pumped about getting my exhaust on, that I did a ittshay job. I am a big time DIYer and it's not just cars. I like to make everything myself. So hey, an exhaust install can't be that hard right? LOL. A few years latter and after the second dyno tune with an upgraded turbo. My header to upipe gasket fails. I flash back to laying in an alley trying to torque that joint with an Allen key that is at the most obscene angle and failing miserably. I am pretty confident that particular day ended with a "Good enough".  (Tomei headers come with allen key bolts)  Years later I'm losing boost and running rich I start looking at everything but the exhaust because hey. It was installed by me and I did a good job.  :sarcasm:

So I started looking in to my emissions system as its the only thing attached to the intake that doesn't have new hoses. Turns out all the hoses for the evap system were old and crusty. They needed a change and while I was doing it. I decided I needed to understand the system. USDM cars have an extra diaphragm valve that feeds the emissions into the intake under boost and the JDM way just closes the solenoid and waits until your in vacuum and feeds the emissions in at that point. Being that I see that as a bit redundant and makes for just one more place I could be having a boost leak. I got some fresh hoses and proceeded to run it with the very simple and much less crowded JDM system. Car seemed to run better right away. Way less rich in first and second gear much less backfires.

During all this I started Trade School as a Millwright. I'm 32 and I have been a mechanic in a Bike shop for years. So I start school and a big part of my first year in this trade is Machining. Immediately I rush through all my shop projects for class and move right on to making my own car parts. The first thing I made was a short shifter. I had to make a blueprint of all my projects to work from so I learned Draftsight. It's a 2D version of Solidworks that has a free licence. Good enough for my projects. After I pulled out my shifter/bushings and after months of machine work I start to realize I can fix just about anything I want and I have an entire trade building at my disposal. The real limitation is free time.

So... I made a short shifter with a custom washer to take the lateral play out of the slightly too narrow kart boy bushings. Some aluminium plugs for the unused holes in my Perrin inlet. I never really liked those little plug covers you zip tie on. A skid plate with custom spacers to cover my re-done exhaust job because of previous wrap getting spread out over western Canada. Mostly because I was too cheap to buy the one Ryan at Vex told me to get when I bought my headers. That's twice you were right Ryan. I made an Oil Cap which I am very proud of as I found it challenging to not botch the threads. Lastly a battery tie down as the steel one was beginning to corrode everything in my engine bay.

At this point I am starting to get pumped about the car getting some fresh bit and love. Then it dawned on me that this years goal is not to upgrade a bunch of stuff. It's to work out the bugs. I am tired of little glitches, rattles, fuel smells, jerky acceleration and anything else that's been happening this winter.

I'll make you a set. Be patient thou. I'm no longer in a machine shop everyday. I've got to ask some random instructor now.

Yes. Grabbed a new gasket last summer and refused the WRX one. Is that not good practice?

About to install my STI TMIC and was just wondering if the WRX BPV would work. You confirmed my suspicion. Thx. Where did you get your gasket?

Well. After sealing a leaky up-pipe and eliminating a cracked purge solenoid the last leaks are gone. Well, except for whatever else may be leaking that I am unaware of. Things are going well. I'm still not 100% sure I have everything dialed but it's close. After the last Fuel/Air/Exhaust problem has been correctly fixed I reset the ECU grabbed a tank of Husky and took a quick trip to Sunshine for some spring skiing. Now I had a screen shot of learning view from the hour to Sunshine but I deleted it because I was going to grab another after the whole 2.5 hours of driving. However. I just found out the hard way that my android app called Torque not only can check CEL codes but when you use it to clear the codes, it also resets the ECU completely clearing my learned fuel and knock adjustments. Booo. Didn't see that one coming. I was under the impression it just cleared the codes. I'm a bit bummed because I've used it a bunch of times to clear the pesky emissions light I get front the charcoal evap wires being frayed by gravel and corrosion. So in retrospect I was also resetting my ECU whilst having a boost and pre-turbo exhaust leak. Dumb.

So confident in the numbers I had after the Sunshine trip and realizing that my ECU was reset because my IAM was at 12. I did the Vishnu reset and some driving around with a couple of hard pulls. Then I grabbed a new Screen.

Also got my summers rockin and cleaned my engine bay. This is after witnessing Asstuna do magic with his almost as old as mine wagon. I seriously love wagons when they are low!
