WSC Super Meet 2013 Feedback
« on: July 13, 2013, 06:31:14 PM »
Not sure if this should be in this subforum but feel free to move it...

Anything that you would like to say about the meet, say it here. I'm looking for everything you have to say, remember that people will look at this thread next year so if you have something good to say and it's not really that constructive... say it anyway! I plan on organizing this again next year and want to know what people liked and didn't like.

First time I have ever organized an event with the help of our rag tag group of volunteer event planners: Jesse, Josh, Nathan, and myself.

Thanks again for for the turn out guys, I had a blast!

add an option for a auto x event, there was lots of room there to do something fun like that, I understand this year it wasnt really in the cards as there is a lot of extra stuff needed including planing.

I am totally open to this, unfortunately, if we do an Auto X event we will have to fine another venue because of noise sensitivity in the area (Old People living in a building close by....)

This is definitely being considered for next year.

I think the parking should have been done a bit better. The whole "angle yourself down this line" didn't really work. Past that, it was tons of fun.

Well angle parking is fine, but people didn't want to move up to be in a straight line (well, the JDMs did, the GRs/GDs didn't). Just need someone/something for people to line up against (chalk/tape/etc?)

If it is possible for next year, more vendors on site would be great.  I have been to the hypermeet with the TSC and that is one of the better things, being able to browse and possibly save the shipping.

One more thing would be more door prizes, of course that means more sponsors.

Finally, I think it would be good to do a separate parking area from the group for the "show and shine" and charge an entry fee for the competition.  Funds could all go to charity.  Would be nice for sponsored prizes if there is an entry fee.

It was great today, had a lot of fun.  I really appreciate the organizers and volunteers for putting this on!

Your first two point will come with time, each year the meet will grow in size and gain more attention from sponsors as well as vendors.

Until we have a larger meet where we can get enough good prizes from sponsors for every category (which there will likely be more of) then the raffle set up works best... for this year the actual competition was more for itshays and giggle as well as bragging rights in a sense. I didnt want it to be too serious the first time around being that the judging wasnt exactly down to a science....

I know it sucks that the prizes were entirely based on luck of the draw but its the easiest way to do prizes and minimize butt hurtedness of not winning the catagory you wanted. Moving forward I would like to make it more competitive with strict judging guide lines and until we have those guide lines set, im not going to put real money on the line. Helps build the meet in the early stages.

Thanks for your input, gives me some idea of a direction to go in for the competition side of things.

If you want to do autocross you also need to consider how you will get insurance for the venue, get permission for the location (lot easier said then done), control access so people don't accidently walk on course.

If you even manage to do it correctly it would be awesome.  But I want to make sure that people.understand it is not something that is quite as simple as throwing down cones and going for it.

most of us are full aware of those issues and understand how complicated it can become for such an event.

I think it would be beneficial next year to make it mandatory for cars to have signs on the dash with the owner's forum handle, and name tags for the attendees with both username and real life names.

I looked in the mall at the dollarama store but didn't see any for sale Saturday or I would have brought some back. Maybe even have a standard downloadable form we could fill in/print out for next year?

I missed a few people at the meet that I wanted to talk to mostly because I didn't know the people on sight.  I tried to identify people by car but that wasn't always easy when there is a group of similar cars.  I was also speaking with several guys that who I should have known real life names for, but couldn't remember and felt stupid asking again who they were.

I agree with others above that the prizes/judging could be structured more for next year, and that there can always be more vendors.  (it'll come)

Regardless, I think it's important to thank the guys that organized this publicly.  You guys rock :)

Lastly, a big thanks to Scott Subaru for attending and being willing to let some up of us drive the BRZ around the parking lot.  It's really appreciated that a dealer would step up and embrace the modding/motorsports crowd when we're a fairly small part of their business.

Having a meet farther out of town so we could include an AutoX event (/drift event >:D) would be pretty cool.

Where is this lot/track? I'd be interested in organizing one if you can put me in contact with the venue. Just post the details.

Thanks!!

They autox at the Westerner lot IN Red Deer.

So, you don't even need to move the meet out of town, necessarily.

I don't know if this would work but I saw it in a subie fest video, soak the pavement and slide around....but ya you would need a deserted parking lot.

The Red Deer club and the Calgary Sports Car Club runs the auto cross at Westerner Grounds in Red Deer.  It's possible to get the same insurance with the Red Deer club to insure a Subie Fest meet at Westerner.

Ah! typical of those left hand drive folk, cant drive or park worth itshay  ;)

Wish I could have came. AutoX would be cool, but I think it would take away time from the meet itself
