How does it feel with the Group N engine mounts in now?  Probably feels a bit more powerful compared to how your engine was moving around last summer.

The mounts made a HUGE differnce, the engine isnt going to jump out anymore. The bad thing is when we were trying to pull the engine last night the last bolt was the drivers side engine mount, it revealed that vex re used the nuts and they stripped it.

Re: lake louises finest wrx- v3 AP or protune?
« Reply #10 on: April 23, 2014, 02:11:42 AM »
So after some thought im trying to decide if i should buy an accessport or take it into sunny. I do like supporting the local guys and all but for the money it seems like the ap would work out better in the long run.

I like the idea of having all the extra features that the ap comes with. On the other hand sunnys tune would be more refined based on my specific mods.

Any insight?

Sunny can tune with an AP. You could do both.

COBB's OTS maps are okay for the basic stage 2 upgrades, but I still had to tweak them for my car which is just intake and downpipe.

If I had your car, I would only have Sunny tune it. Whether he uses Opensource or COBB software to do it, is entirely up to you.

What you get with the COBB AP, is a conveniently sized programming and monitoring tool. It offers nothing special in way of the actual tune.

Its more of a cost thing. The ap is $714 you get the maps and all the cool feautures with the v3 that you can keep using. And sunny runs at $220/hr so in my eyes cost wise it seems better to go with the ap for the long run and get reg from rcts to fine tweak it on the road.

My AP hasn't left my glovebox in 8 months.

I'd just get a Tactrix cable and tune with RomRaider if I did it again.

I agree with RockThePylon.  The only reason I have the AP is to switch maps when travelling.  Nice to have a 94 and 91 map.  Even though I have the capability I never have had to switch maps yet.

you don't have to tune, Sunny can tune VIA tactrix cable with opensource tuning.

If you're looking at getting a Cobb AP with an OTS map that's been "road tweaked" vs a dyno tune from sunny, I will hands down put every cent I own on Sunny.

I personally loved my accessport, I almost always had it connected to use as a boost guage, the v3 you can monitor multiple guages at once so in a sense your also getting a gauge pod with it. I would personally get the ap then alittle down the road get sunny to tune using the ap.

As for plans regarding the car, I'm going to start saving for when the engine blows up.

The current problem i see with the Ap is that their stage 3 ots map wont inclued some of my other mods such as downpipe uppipe 3port ebcs and fuel pump

If by stage 3 you mean the vfxx maps, then a downpipe is required, uppipe doesn't affect it (I asked cobb about it for the stage 2 map) and you don't need a tune period for a fuel pump.

Unfortunately the ots tunes wont work with a 3port ebcs though.

Edit: from what I've heard though the stage 3 maps are more designed to hold you off untill you can get to a tuner...

The way most of us see it, due to a car having specific mods, a custom tune from Sunny is the way to go. The choice of whether to just use opensource or an AP is a personal one.

As some have mentioned, if you want the gauges, the AP is nice.

The idea of needing to switch maps, generally this would be on a long road trip when stuck needing to use say 91 instead of 94 octane. Whenever I go on a road trip, I have my laptop with me for internet, pictures, etc, so being able to switch maps is not an issue, and I just keep my Tactrix cable in the glovebox.

Hell, can't you buy a little notebook for the price of an AP, and have it just for use in switching maps if that is what you want? It is all about what you feel comfortable with. I only switch maps and do patches on my Subaru, but have gotten into actual tuning on my Honda.

Re: lake louises finest wrx- to tune before or after vaccay?
« Reply #24 on: May 16, 2014, 10:37:38 AM »
Well its come down to the time where i have the last few parts to put on before i require a tune. Im going on vaccation to vancouver/whistler july 3, but the earliest day i can get booked in for a tune is june 24. Is this cutting it too close? I really want to drive my car there, i dont want to run into any issues in the trip tho. What are you guys thoughts? Tune a week before i leave or wait to put the parts on until i get back?
