Tyler's Fozzy Bear
« on: January 31, 2016, 10:20:47 am »
I'll start off by saying that nothing will happen quickly on this build. With a wedding coming up, house renovations in constant varying stages of completion and working 3 jobs, the car tends to get put on the back burner.

Imported this 99 JDM Forester S/TB with Brian from B-Pro in August or September (can't remember which) of 2014. Flew out to Vancouver and picked it up and drove it back to Manitoba.

Current Mods
95 STi vLimited front seats
Glowshift boost gauge
RallyArmor universal mudflaps
Optima Redtop battery
16" SRT4 ACR BBS summer wheels
Ichiba extended wheel studs
Ichiba 5mm wheel spacers
trailer hitch
OEM Subaru Forester cross bars (for roof rack)

Purchased Items (but not installed)
shifter bushing kit
4 pot front calipers
vf23 turbo
Gates timing belt and water pump kit
new oem coolant temp sensor
block heater
AEM UEGO a/f sensor kit
3" turbo back exhaust (unsure on brand name, no stamping anywhere)
02 WRX wagon KYB AGX struts and oem springs/top hats
04 STi rear top hats
Whiteline front and rear endlinks
GC8 oem 18mm rear sway bar
EcuLabs ECU
Hella horns will gold grilles

Future Plans
Nemesis tune
new speakers
S/TB Type A lip kit front/rear
DW fuel pump
new clutch (probably oem exedy)
injectors (unsure of size currently)
STi TMIC (might go aftermarket, have to wait and determine later)
hose kit

Maintenance Log
- passenger side front and both rear wheel bearings
- oil changes every 5000km with Mobil1 5w30
- flushed trans around 130xxxkm with Redline 75w90
- spark plugs (NGK BKR5EIX11) done at 100xxxkm

The Forester is a daily driver (50+km/day) so down time is also hard to come by. Should be getting some General Evertrek RTX tires for the summer in the next week or so, along with an alignment following the install of the endlinks, sway bar and suspension.

Attempted to swap the WRX suspension over the weekend. Found that the fronts bolted up perfectly, rear top hats didn't fit the bolt pattern on the chassis. Took it out and went back to the OEM suspension.

Also over the weekend found someone relatively close that had a couple parts that I wanted. Picked up 04 STi rear top hats (that should fix the rear suspension issue), a GlowShift gauge pod for the center console and also a set of new Hella Horns with gold grilles. I'll take a couple pictures and post them up later.

Nemesis is a guy relatively locally (2 hour drive) that does tuning on Subaru's.

Thanks for the offer man I might take you up on it one of these days.

Youll notice a big difference as my stock forester stb struts were scary when i boosted, not that im making more power its a good thing i did them. Plus just got my new tires and wheels last week for mine.

Nice. New tires always make a huge difference. I can't wait for the snow and ice to go away so I can try out my new summer tires. Probably going to be a couple weeks or maybe a month or so before I tackle the suspension again. Currently working every single evening this week and next week, plus both weekends. Should make for some nice coin to put towards parts however.

So as I use the car for work purposes (installing low voltage cables into new build houses and condos), I am now in need of a roof rack so I can haul around an extension ladder. Found a set of cross bars in Winnipeg that I might pick up, or if that falls through a buddy has a set on a 240 that we might be able to modify to make it fit on the forester.

Picked up a set of new in box OEM cross bars for the roof rack on the forester. Also ended up ordering my modified ECU from EcuLabs so I can begin upgrades this summer.

Once I get it i'll just be using the factory basemap that Emmanuel sent. Eventually I'll probably get Nemesis from Winnipeg to tune it. Gotta get the fuel system upgrades first. Hopefully it'll all come together this summer.

This is what Emmanuel quoted me
- Base licence: 249€
- ECU: 180€
- Shipping to Canada: 44€
- Total: 473€

Plus once it arrived there was $55CDN due in duties. So all together with exchange rate was about $800.

Installed the ECU in the car yesterday. Didn't take pictures as it was pretty uneventful. Connected the tactrix and flashed the basemap that Emmanuel sent. Now time for some datalogging!

Back from the dead.

Been running great! Ended up moving and hauling a trailer all over with it.

Ended up ordering top hats for the rears to get installed, and bolted up the exhaust and AEM o2 sensor. Lots of little maintenance things in between there and now.

Installed the Whiteline rear end links over winter. Now currently it's up on jackstands as the front struts were leaking. Swapped the rear suspension already, and took out the fronts. Got the control arms removed and found the bushing that bolts to the frame has a different design on the S/TB's and STi's. So getting those pressed apart. Installed the DW200 fuel pump and should be good to go with the VF23 soon (hopefully this summer)!
