Are you getting the heads machined to better match the 2.5L bottom end?

No.  The pistons are hybrid specific so im told compression should be ok.

JE pistons. I could probably try and get a better picture of them before  I install them if you like.

Talk to Tom at techworks. He'll tell you everything you need to know about pistons, he even has his own for the hybrid builds I do believe.

That sideways rally pic is awesome.  Good luck with the engine rebuild.

The engine building has started! Checked all my rod bearing clearances and ring gaps today. Should be able to get most of it back together tomorrow, hoping to have this baby back on the road soon as my beater is taking a beating :P
Heres a few pics of my pistons for those interested.

Well I was hoping to update this with some good news when my tune was complete. But sadly I can not. A few weeks ago it starting burning a lot of oil and puffing blue smoke. I did a compression test on it. The results may have made me cry. 90,87,77 and 50 psi. I guess it's time to rip the engine apart again:(

you had this at boxer battle right? and it wasnt tuned? I know you were not racing but you made some "hard" laps at the end. What was your break in time and how did you do it?

If I remember correctly she just had base/reserved tune for the break-in duration.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was a very conservative base tune from lightspeed.

Still having a base tune isn't really a tune, spring pressure and extra fuel to keep things semi happy. What was the break in time and how was it done?

I'm not sure on this.  She will have to chime in here when she feels in the mood.

Feel bad for you Dany.  Hopefully I can lend a hand when you're wrenching again.

Don't get me wrong! I feel bad for her also, I wouldn't wish such a thing on anyone. I know what its like to. Have a car out of comission for a long period of time.

Oh ya I didn't mean that in that way at all.  You and me both, I'll be 2 years this coming January with the exception of the 500 or so km I put on this time last year.

Who built the motor?! ...
I wouldn't necessarily blame it all on the tune

No one is blaming the tune, I was just stating that with just a safe tune on the car isn't "safe" to push the car harder then normal driving. Plus there needs to be a break in period with the new motor to properly seat everything (can be done many ways) I was just asking how the break in was done and why do fun runs at boxer battle if you are on a safe tune?... Maybe I'm to paranoid when it comes to breaking in the motor correctly and such. just asking questions not blaming anyone or anything.

I built the motor. It has 5000km since the build and was broke in the way it was recommended. All was well up until about 2 weeks ago when it started to burn extra oil. I won't really know what happened until I take it apart...again. I prefer not to blame anyone, just figure out the problem and stop it from happening again.
