Slotato's S2000, not for the purists
« on: September 09, 2013, 10:19:34 pm »
This is the Western S2000 Club right? lol. Anyway figured since there are a few s2ks on here i wouldn't mind staying on a canadian forum that has some S2000s.

So I finally sold my WRX a week ago and picked this up the next day. It's a 2003 Sebring Silver S2000. Only a couple mods on it when I bought it. I wont be going to crazy with it right away as a new house comes first, so only little things here and there for now. I'm just enjoying the car and realizing what i've been missing  ;D. I also wouldn't mind any tips you other S2K owners might have for me (best place to buy parts, favourite mods/upgrades, or anything else)

This is the car as it currently sits May 2015

This is the day i bought it

I was still deciding at this point wether i liked the colour enough to keep it or if i should sell it and pick one up in a different colour

I have since decided that I will keep it and i am actually starting to really like the more classy simple look it has in silver.

My first mod was the top up/down while moving mod, don't have to completely stop to put it up if it starts raining, a simple mod that is quite useful

The second thing i did was put a BYS drivers seat rail in to gain a bit more room between the steering wheel and my legs. It turned out really well and was easy to do. It took around an hour and no surprises it fit perfectly.
The one down side is it lowers the seat so much that it drags on the carpet and its a bit hard to slide the seat around.

heres the BYS vs stock

Installed on the seat

The final product. The back of the seat moves down a bit as you can see compared to the passenger seat but the base moves down even more and I found the seat is actually more comfortable now as the lumbar support is in a better spot.

and a sneak peak of whats to come

Do I ever love the S2000. Congrats dude, I really like the seat lowering mod.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Sweet Tato! Looking good man! Congrats dude!
You got a winter beater too? Lol it's almost that time. I actually really like the Sebring Silver.

Think I saw your old car last weekend, did it make its way to Edmonton?
I love long walks on the beach with my girlfriend, until the LSD wears off and I realize I'm just dragging a stolen mannequin around a Wendy's parking lot.

Thanks guys, They are such fun cars!

The wheel is from SpeedTech Saskatoon. Still waiting on the hub and quick release

Haha, I actually bought a beater about 3 1/2 months ago.

Here it is, I never thought id own a honda... now i own 2 :o.

I'll hopefully only have this for one winter. I'm thinking of getting a forester for next winter.
My car ended up in P.A. so unless they were in Edmonton for the weekend, it wasn't mine. You'll know when you see mine, the license plate says BEEAST, lol.

Well I got out to autox in the s2000 for the first time. I loved it! It felt so much better than the understeering wrx. Everywhere I read talked about the s2k snap oversteering and being a handful without a big front swaybar. I'm sure the huge 265 tires in the rear that were on the car when I bought it helped but I found the car quite controllable. It does love to oversteer and slide but I was able to catch it everytime except once in the fun runs when I did finally spin it.
I was really happy with my times as well since this is the first time autoxing it and I'm still getting used to it. There was another s2000 there who goes quite a bit and from what I saw is usually near the top for raw and pax times.
He had a 41.5 and I had a 43.1. Now I just need to get out a lot more next year as this was the last Saskatoon event this year unfortunately.

Right now I'm in STX because of my huge tires and I'm undecided if I should build my car to keep it in a specific class or do as I did with the wrx and just do what I want and only pay attention to raw times. I'll have to read through the classing rules further and see what else I am do while still remaining in this class.

No pics since I didn't have anyone there to take any :(

It also took me a few runs to figure out how to launch it, I just kept bogging. I think it was partly not revving high enough and partly being to gradual with the clutch and launching it like the wrx. I ended up revving up to 7-8000 and dumping the clutch which seemed to work well and get the tires spinning and no bogging. If anyone has some tips for launching these cars that would be great.

Congrats on:
  • the sale of your WRX; that was a loong time coming
  • the purchase of your S2000

Here it is, I never thought id own a honda... now i own 2 :o.

Honda's are wonderful vehicles.  FWD will suffice and that beater will treat you very well through the winter.

And...  Although silver may not be the prettiest, it is still the best colour  ;)

I'm sure the civic will be good enough, but I will miss my wrx I'm sure.

I'm actually really happy with the silver now. It shows the body lines it doesn't look dirty 30 seconds after a wash and it doesn't show swirls, scratches or rock chips nearly as much as black. Plus it just looks clean and simple and that's the way I like things.

Taken from my experience with my civic.

How to launch a honda:
Rev the isspay out of it.
Drop the clutch (experts may prefer to slip it).

And that is how you launch a honda.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

I never got any decent times at the 1/4 mile until I did that. I was scared, but an n/a honda doesn't really have enough torque to break any axles (that I've personally seen), so fuggit, abuse the car.

Dump the clutch it is! Maybe I'll try a lower rpm again, around 6. I think I was letting the clutch out to slow the first couple times.

Drop, then feather out until it stops spinning.  And yea, it's not a "quick slip" like a Subaru, it's a shock to the rear tires.

Installed some eibach springs, went from this

To this

Installed the steering wheel, it is at the perfect distance now and there should be no more hitting the wiper switch in the middle of an Autox run.

Then plastidipped the wheels black then sprayed the copper metalizer over it. I really like how they came out and will be getting them painted some shade of matte bronze. I just did the plastidip as a temp thing to see how I liked it.
I don't have any good pictures of it yet but here's a couple for now.

I've got the NRG short hub that fits around the clock spring and comes with resistors to plug into the airbag connector to keep the light off. And the NRG v3 quick release (with those crazy paddle flaps removed)
