1990 Miata- Project Still in the Family
« on: October 12, 2013, 07:44:34 pm »
Well I'm back in the Miata game. My dad gave me his 1990 Miata. He got it as a birthday gift in 1990. It has close to 200,000 km and is in great shape.

My goal for the car is to make a nice daily driver while staying true to the Miata philosophy of lightweight, and balanced power.

Current Mods:

Engine/Drivetrain

- K&N intake
- Racing Beat header
- Car Make Corn's exhaust
- 1.8 L differential and axles
- Miataroadster tall short shifter kit
- 949Racing clutch line
- Mazda Comp motor mounts

Brakes/Suspension

- Stainless brake lines
- KYB OEM shocks
- Racing beat front sway bar
- 949Racing endlinks

Interior/Exterior

- Cibie E-code conversion with H4 bulbs
- 2001 to 2005 seats
- LED exterior bulbs

Wheels

- OEM 99 wheels with Yokohama Flaven tires

I might replace the seats, but I will not be installing a roll cage or roll bar. I'll probably get rid of the soft top entirely. I might replace the steering wheel. I like the stock interior and don't want to go overboard.

So, I can read just fine & I see the pics you posted of hardtop only miata...

How about a roll bar & a bikini top?

It ties in with

but make it more airey.

I love those flares...
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

I really want to stay away from a roll bar because I don't see it necessary on a street car. I like the look of Miatas with nothing back there.

Define "wide wheels and tires" on a miata.

If it's not close to 3xx then GTFO.

Dammit. Now I have to get a nicer Miata. I'll show you who can build a stylish street car. I'll have a rollbar and drive around at non-VW-owner height.

If you want to spend a billion dollars the PAR56 headlight housing that NAs use now has several LED 'sealed beam' replacement options...

How bad is the car for rust? If it's not bad yet you should get some seam sealer and cover up the spot welds on the inside of the rocker and rear fender so water can't get in.

You should make it a spec Miata and come racing ;-)

Do you already have the widebody/flares? I know someone that had some and had to remove them (because spec racecar)  I can ask if he still has them for sale if you want.
If you want a WSC License plate frame, PM me. Now available in black with white lettering!

I haven't done a full rust inspection but it seems to be in pretty good shape.

No, it's a daily, not a race car. I don't have flares yet. I haven't decided what flares I actually want yet.

That's a given. Either 15x9 or 15x10.

I don't like how unfinished the front fenders look.

Unrelated to the current conversation, but what colour is your new Miata?

I really liked your old Miata...  but that green...  blech.  :(  Sorry.

Personally, I would go with A.J.'s offer, because free.  But if you feel obligated to stimulate the economy...  I don't like the TUCKIN99's, because they're just too big!  It's like a very petite person with size A Billion feet.  The Jubiride's have more finesse to them and speak to the Miata's overall personality, without killing it.

Congrats on the car btw :)

Miata ftw!!!

Not a fan of the free ones lol, go jubride or Ak, tuckin 99s are amazing but lots of $$$$ and wider then almost everything else.

I'm ordering some ak areo and rear full fenders this week :)

No, I think I'll go with 949 6ULs or maybe Enkei RPF1s.
