Looking for a Sourdough Starter
« on: November 13, 2013, 08:38:20 pm »
Looking to try some sort of home made sourdough loaf, similar to the sorts of sourdough found at the Keg..  My mom was given a Monster Dough starter which she kept in the fridge and you'd feed it flour to get it growing, but she doesn't know where it came from nor where to find a good recipe.

Does anyone have some such thing or a tried and true recipe to share?
They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?

Alton Brown is always an excellent candidate for simple instructions and resounding success.

I had mild success with these instructions for the starter

and use it to make this loaf

2 weeks of work and left for vacation a week later gave the starter to my sister with instructions. Needless to say it died haven't got around to trying again. One tip that I found was don't use a jar unless its very wide mouth its hard to get the starter out.

I might have some in my freezer. Keeping starter alive has more to do with feeding it regularly than where it came from.

I had great success with that when I used to bake sourdough.

That one was my favourite recipe to bake.
