This is my 1998 STi, I imported it through WRX_RA (great guy to deal with!). I flew down to Vancouver on September 27th and drove it home.

Performance:
Stage 2 clutch, resurfaced flywheel
02-07 Perrin Intake
Divorced Invidia V3 Catless Downpipe
Invidia Race Catback Titanuim Tip

Handling:
ISC coilovers
Yokohama S drives

Asthetics:
Came with the OZ racings wheels running Nokian WRG3
Rallytech Mudflaps
Rallytech Alternator Cover
Rallytech tow hook
V6 front lip

Interior:
LED dome lights
Factory Lamco boost gauge
Flossy Shift knob

Maintenance:
105,700km Gates OEM timing belt and water pump/Subaru thermostat
Motul oil change at 104,300km

Plans:
Tune by Vex with the power fc
Equal length headers before I tune.

I had some fairly bad luck with the shippers, they were complete idiots and didn't lift the car properly causing more than $6000 worth of damage around the fenders. It was a real buzzkill but now that I have the insurance money I technically paid less than $5000 for it.

This on all four corners, not to mention the dents from the stress from however they lifted it.

I am not sure how much I will build this car but I wanted to keep track of the progress either way.

Nice build thread! I'm curious as to what you had to modify in order to get the Perrin intake to work on your gc. I might be looking to do something similar in the future. If you can send me a PM with the details that would be great!

Ouch, those dents really suck. Did they use hooks or something to lift it with a crane? Someone should get fired for that.

The dents have probably cracked the galvanization of the metal and will rust faster than it normally would so I'd apply a bit of spray Fluid Film (you can get it from Canadian Tire) to the inside of the fender before taking it out in too much salt. Whatever bodyshop does the paint might be able to advise better what to do, but that's probably a good interim step.

I think they should HAVE put the straps around the rims but I believe they put the straps around the hubs because the rims where off and something hit the wheel arches and then damage. I'll to look into film for sure.

Thanks man.

Nope, the V5 bumper and V6 bumper actually are slightly different in that the V6 has holes underneath to mount the lip and the V5 does not since the lip only came out with the V6's.

Perfect looking V5! Too bad about the shipping damage though. The car looks mint other than that. Drives me crazy to hear these stories about otherwise perfect cars being screwed up by the numbskulls at the shipping company.

Has the repair process started?

Thanks!

It's actually going fairly well, Matt otherwise known as WRX_RA (helped me import my car). He was really helpful throughout the whole thing. It was a long process of sending pictures and scanning documents but I ended up getting my $6100, I received it a week or two ago. I was quoted both $6100 and $6600 and of course they picked the lower quote... Oh well. The plan was to get it done at the end of the winter anyway.

Re: Rick's 1998 V5 STi OPINIONS

So as you may know I recieved my $6100 for the damage on my car. It's kind of bad, but from far away (10' the damage is hard to see. I'm really weighing my options with this. I could buy some rwd car to drift with, or put the money into my truck that I'm hoping to turn into an auto-x one day. Or I could buy a set of wheels for my truck, and then coilovers for my car, wheels and a new catback, then if I have any left save it. Im looking for some opinions, I don't want to make an impulse decisions and then regret it.

I'd fix the car. That's what the money is for, and when you sell it off, you'll get more value from it.

I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.
If you're having forum problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but your post ain't one.

I'd fix the car too.
If you really don't like the damages, worst case scenario, you can fix the car, sell it for more than you initially paid, and just import another.

I vote fix also, car is to nice otherwise to leave it like that.

Also I believe I saw you driving down Broadmoor Blvd. Sunday evening. I was in the black G37 and gave you the head nod. If that was you, and I think it must have been based on the damage I saw, but the car looked and sounded great otherwise.

I'm leaning more towards this as well, I went the whole winter without 3M and it pains me to look at my hood. I think I'm going to get another quote for the car to get fixed and completely repainted. Then save for that, and 3M, lots of 3M.

Went back to Showcase Autoworks and they said they don't even want to tackle it, because it's too big of a project, they said it will be inbetween 8-10 grand.

I have an appointment scheduled with Freeway Autobody next week though.

I had freeway repair my 300zx a couple of years ago and they did a phenomenal job. I would highly recommend them and will definitely be going back if I need any body work done. You will find that a lot of shops won't touch your car because it is a JDM, but they should be fine with it.

Ya I reread my last thread on the JDM repair and I saw that and gave them a call. I read some reviews and they are all positive.
