Want to throw a huge shout out to William at JDM Connection. I originally approached him with my intent to look for a Mini, and he was awesome the entire way through. He made me feel comfortable with the purchase and handled pretty much everything. He was more than willing to answer all my questions, and I never felt like I was forced or rushed to pick a specific car until I found the right one.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Your next mod should be an engine in the back. And destroying any three-wheeled cars in Calgary.

There's an AWD subframe where you can drop in a honda motor (k-series?) and a CRV AWD system...

Yup.

Car is registered and good to go. Found a bolt for the license plate (damn JDM plates, could only get 1 to fit), need to order new wipers blades, and _really_ need those seat extensions. Got lots of thumbs up and head nods.

That's what Jeff said. I have to say, after driving that thing around all day yesterday (getting the plate and such), getting into the STi feels like a luxurious boat. Leg space, a suspension, and auto climate control? Years ahead. That being said, it's still fun as hell to drive.

What's the difference between a JDM Mini and a UKDM Mini?

Nothing. The JDM mini was built in Britain and then exported to Japan. My key says "Made in Britain" right on it.

Oh wait.. The manual is in Japanese. That's about it.

Not that I know of. Did some research on what oil to run, seeing as the gearbox and engine share a sump (similar to a motorcycle). Essentially it recommends 20w-50, however a few have noted that it's a little heavy, especially if you're driving it in the cold. What was the verdict? Rotella T6 5w-40. Welp at least I have lots of that. And speaking of oil, it looks like I have a fairly substantial oil leak that I noticed when walking the dog after work. When I take the car in for balljoints, I'll have them see where the leak is coming from, and I'll order some gaskets (along with a filter, and some new windshield wipers).
