2002 WRX Dyno Results, 320 whp
« on: October 20, 2008, 01:58:43 pm »
Last week I made the trip to Lightspeed Innovation in Red Deer to finally get my car tuned.
First off Cam at Lightspeed was awesome!  Very friendly and happy to involve the owner in the entire tuning process, in fact he insisted I be there with him.
The first thing he did was have a leakdown test done on the car.  Results showed 1%, 4%, 1%, 4%, so not bad, a little soft but the car did have 85,000km at the time.

Cam just received the ProTuner software from Cobb less than 1 week before I arrived, so I was to be his first ever tune using this new software.  My base run was an emailed tune from PDX in Portland.  It made 270whp and 250lbs.  AFRs ranged from 9.8 to 10.5 and timing was very mild.  I was actually experiencing very poor idle and even rich CELs b/c of my base tune.  After a few hours we had managed to gain 50hp and 50tq by adjusting AFRs and timing and only adding 1 lb of boost!  AFRs are now around 11.5 throughout the power band.  There was not a hint of knock anywhere so we could have continued to increase boost and then adjust timing and fuel accordingly but I was feeling pleased with those results.  I need this car to hold together for at least another year plus I had to drive back home the next day.

Final results were 320whp and 300 tq, running on 94oct Mohawk gas, peaking at 20.5psi and tapering to 19.  I’m very impressed with these results from the stock EJ205 engine.  It responded very well to the adjustments Cam made and we experienced no strange issues.  My next change will be a built 2.5L hybrid engine, possibly with some upgraded cams.  Time will tell exactly what it ends up being.

I highly recommend Lightspeed to anyone on this site.  Aside from the fantastic results, they were amazingly friendly and co-operative.  I had a nap on their couch in the morning, then Cam and I went out for lunch at noon, haha.  Great day!

Mods?

I can see a FMIC and I'm assuming a bigger turbo too, what else?

Those are damn good numbers for the EJ205...

I'm thinking it's a FP Green turbo according to his profile.

You must be close to hitting the limits of the MAF sensor then (300g/s)?

Oh I forgot one of the best parts!!!  My fuel mileage has increased from 23mpg highway to 29mph highway!!!  That's over 20% increase!!!  Pays for itself in a year or two.

Yes, any more mods like meth or hybrid engine will require a 70mm CAI.(I'll stick with APS for intake equip)

What highway speed are you doing to get that mileage?

I went to Grande Prairie doing 130km/hr the whole way pretty much and I got 22mpg.  On the way back I was doing 135km/hr the whole way and I got 23mpg.  I suppose if I slowed down to 110 I'd get way better mileage ;)

I should correct my post...the 65mm intake can be used up to ~350g/s.  It is the 16bit ECU that will cap it to 300g/s.  Ingesting more than 300g/s requires "tricking" the ECU.

What kind of max g/s is it for a 07 STI stock intake?  Also with an APS 65?

This was on the #9 from Calgary to Saskatoon.  Travelling 130km/h the whole way, plus a lot of slowing down and then accelerating in boost to pass traffic(single lane highway).  It's down right awesome!  I went 625km and the low fuel light still hadn't turned on(though I was on E)

Still, that's darn-right impressive.  625km?  Nice stuff!!

The STi (and 06+ WRX) has the 32bit ECU and so doesn't have the 300g/s limit.  The MAF will read to ~350g/s with the stock (65mm) intake.
