First startup since fall
« on: April 11, 2019, 08:15:53 pm »
Title describes it best. I put the car away mid October, thinking I’d be back in town in a couple of weeks. Fast forward 5 months and I’m home!! So the STi has been sitting in a garage, with a trickle charger, a full tank of fuel, and that’s about it. Is there a way to disable the ignition system so I can give her a few cranks to move fluids around before I fire her up? Am I being too paranoid? Any advice is appreciated.

Fuse panel, remove IGN fuse.

So apparently what I pulled and thought was IGN was not in fact IGN and the car fired right up. Oh well *shrug*. But not I have a steady CEL, a flashing cruise light, and a flashing S light for my S drive. Other than pulling the negative battery terminal to reset the ECU, can’t seem to find any good advice of this combo of lights.

Do you have an ap or code reader? You usually want to see the codes before you clear the ECU. But if not clear it and see if it comes back right away or not at all.

For future reference if you want to prime all the systems (oil, coolant, fuel) without starting, an ODBII car that is DBW can be cranked to death simply by pressing down fully on the gas pedal.

Pulling the fuel pump fuse from the underhood fuse panel is another way to go as well.
