Yes.  10sec used it for quite a while but he may have moved on to something else(?).  I've had CQuartz (non-UK) since the fall of 2014, and it's holding up on:

  • hood
  • front quarter panels
  • roof
  • rear quarter panels
  • top of the trunk
  • wing

By the end of the first winter, it's hydrophobic properties were not as strong on the doors, the sides of the rear bumper and the back of the car.  ie. anywhere that got exposed to the salt.  Mind you, I would wash the car at least every other day.  I would still recommend it as it's better than anything else I've tried!  Just a bit of CarPro Eraser and Reload and I'm good to go!.

I didn't put any on the front bumper because I don't care about my front bumper.

Typical results on the lower panels.

Lately I have been using Gtechniq Exo V3 as it is much easier to apply and has similar properties as Cquartz UK.

Am I up to standard for engine bay cleaning, guys?  ;D ;D  What do you guys use the most for engine bay detailing? I forgot to mention about using a small brush to get to some of the smaller crevices etc.

I use a hose.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

had some old Meguiars yellow compound pad, and black polishing pad with the ultimate compound and polish. Decided to try it out on my Makita rotary polisher to see if it would work. The finish wasn't perfect as you could still see some swirls when parked in the sun but I just wanted to see how it worked before I decided to try a product specifically for rotary polishing.

EDIT: And somehow I forgot to take better closeup to show the actual finish.

Does wheel cleaner take off wheel sealant or wax? They are kind of an acid and are made to be pretty strong, so I'm not sure if they will affect any sealants or wax

I think the more you wash it, the more it comes off, at least for wax. Sonax wheel cleaner is pH neutral i believe.

Well, thinking of finally doing my own detail rather than pay for it.

Went to Auto Obsessed yesterday and bought some supplies to keep my car clean:
- Foam gun (that fits on a standard hose, don't own a pressure washer)
- Chemical Guys - Citrus Wash and Gloss (to use with gun)
- Couple buckets with grid guards
- Pack of microfibre towels
- High grade drying towel
- Poor Boy Bug Squash
- CarPro TarX
- CarPro IronX
- Sonax Polmer Net Shield
- Sonax Dashboard Cleaner (Matte)
- Obsessed Clay kit (comes with very fine clay and lube)

So all this was over $300 bucks and wanted to do more research on good DA Polishers and compounds before pulling the trigger.

My question is, for a beginner, would the Porter Cable kit that AutoObsessed offers be sufficient? https://www.autoobsessed.com/collections/polishers-kits-bundles/products/chemical-guys-porter-cable-complete-polishing-kit-with-v-line-compounds

I don't need anything fancy nor heavy duty as I don't really need to do major paint correction. I'm thinking that as I'm learning and mastering the skills of polishing, I'll be simply using it to remove small scratches and paint defects and polishing it up so I can seal it and protect it.

Or should I go with the TorqX? https://www.amazon.ca/Chemical-BUF_209X-Complete-Detailing-Items/dp/B01M05F4U5/ref=pd_sim_263_6?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01M05F4U5&pd_rd_r=b634f909-6456-11e8-a0ef-4185f1550c90&pd_rd_w=5zOOh&pd_rd_wg=yCOwS&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_p=818483864814972661&pf_rd_r=AY5TH28Z1NZRDPKF1QJ4&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=AY5TH28Z1NZRDPKF1QJ4

Or the Torq 10FX. https://www.amazon.ca/BUF501-Random-Orbital-Polisher-Items/dp/B00PXZ919I/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1527778603&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=flex+da+polisher

I've also looked at teh Meguiars MT300 (https://www.amazon.ca/Meguiars-MT300-Professional-Polisher-Yellow/dp/B00OTK5JHG) and the Flex3401XP but those seem to be way more money than I'm willign to spend as a newbie getting into detail.

Do you still have multiple polishers? Are you looking to sell one?

If not and your just willing to lend it out, I’ll definitely try it out and it should educate me on how it works, what I need, etc.

I’ll PM you to arrange pickup.

I still have multiple polishers and you are definitely allowed to try it out and show you how it works. At least it gives you a good idea of what you would want to buy at the very least.

What kind of pads do you guys use for your DA Polishers?

Any recommendations or "Stay away" knowledge to share.

I'm looking at Lake Country and Buff and Shine pads.

Also, where do you guys buy them? I'm looking at Auto Obsessed since I'm in Edmonton.

If I am using foam pads I start by priming the pad with 5 dime size dots for the first section. After I use my brush or towel to clean the pad I use 2 dime size dots for every section after until the pad is too saturated (After a hood, or a single door/fender) before i pull out another clean pad.

Picked up some more "old school" compounds and polishes. Will use them on the Jeep, Subaru and Thing and see how they work. Apparently these formulas have been updated and will also work on DA polishers.

I spilled a McD's Large Black Coffee into my cupholder in the centre console.  When I figured it out, the cup was empty, the console was soggy but empty, suggesting that the entire cup had leaked down into the area underneath where the emergency brake cables are.

What will I expect to see come springtime when the whole mess defrosts and the carpet gets extra-soggy?  Am I doomed to forever smelling crusty coffee in this car?
