Cuba.

My wife and I are going back on the 14th of November.  Last year we paid $750 each for all inclusive 3-star.  It was small and quiet. Only Europeans and Russians.

Are you going just for relaxation, or are you hoping to see a lot of different things on day trips, do you plan on staying at your resort most of the time? Mexico is nice, and Dominican will be similar if you're not planning many excursions from your hotel. Food's not quite as good, but similar experience. Have you been to Mexico before?

Fair enough. DR will be a pretty similar experience, obviously different excursions. But the accommodations, food, booze, et cetera will be similar to Mexico, though not quite as nice. A 4 star in DR is like a 3-3.5 star in Mexico. I think Cuba is a similar kind of thing, but I haven't been there my self.

I've been to the DR 3 times, love it there!  That being said I have only stayed in resorts that are $1500 and up so I'm not sure what your experience might be at a lower price point.
