New Vehicle Prep: 2014 Jeep Cherokee
« on: July 17, 2014, 08:33:01 pm »
A co-worker suggested to his sister that she bring her brand new 2014 Jeep Cherokee to me for a new vehicle prep.

Some might wonder why one would get a brand new car detailed but the reality is that a typical dealership cannot properly prep a new vehicle because it would cut into profits and most customers probably wouldn't know the difference.

The goal of a new car prep is to fully decontaminate the vehicle (typically a new vehicle is very contaminated just by the nature of transportation, factory setting, ect.), protect the paint, wheels, trim, glass, ect. and to bring out the gloss in the paint.

A glass coating was chosen to protect the paint because it offers a semi permanent (2-3 year) sacrificial layer between the clear coat and the elements. It also offers incredible hydrophobic properties, ease of maintenance and amazing gloss.

Process
Exterior:
Wheels: Detailer's Wheel Cleaner with various brushes
Tires: Zep Formula 505 Cleaner & Degreaser
Wheel Wells: Zep Citrus Cleaner (4:1)
Pre-wash: CG Citrus Wash & Gloss via foam cannon
Wash: CG Citrus Wash & Gloss via Microfiber Madness Sponge
Decontamination 1: CarPro Trix (Iron & Tar Remover)
Decontamination 2: Riccardo Yellow Clay and ONR for lube
Dry: Waffle Weave Towels
Surface Prep: Detailers Pro Prep Polish
Paint Protection: PBL Surface Coating
Glass Protection: PBL Surface Coating
Wheel Protection: Blackfire Crystal Seal
Tire Dressing: CarPro PERL
Trim Dressing: Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant
Exhaust Polishing: P21s Polishing Soap, Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant

Total Time Spent: 4.5 hours

Before Pictures:

The vehicle arrived with 2400 km's and I advised the owner not to wash the vehicle and she obviously listened because it was quite dirty.

During Pictures:

I started with the wheels, tires and wheel wells first as it is always good practice to start with the dirtiest areas first. I used a light wheel cleaner as there was just a little light brake dust to clean up.

Gross so much nastiest out of the tires

Gentle foam pre-soak to help loosen the dirt (foaming is fun too!)

After the vehicle was foamed I rinsed it. As I suspected there is ZERO protection on the paint. The water is flatter than a pancake and a real pain to dry. Luckily the coating will make washing the vehicle a snap due to the hydrophobic properties.

I then washed the vehicle with 2 bucket method, performed a chemical and mechanical decontamination, inspected the paint and then prepped and coated the vehicles paint and glass.

After Pictures

The pictures seem a little washed out because the paint is literally glass now. Mad reflections

Thanks for viewing and enjoy.

That's pretty much what 90% of my car does. This makes me sad.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

What is the cost of having you do this?  I wouldn't mind having the truck cleaned and polished once I'm back from van. Get all the salt and highway grime off of it.
