Chemteks - Version 2 STi
« on: August 10, 2014, 05:11:05 pm »
I decided to start a new thread for my new car to keep it separate from my 2008 WRX (http://www.westernsubaruclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=27398.0)

Recently bought a 1996 version 2 STi through William at JDM Connection.  The car is in mint shape with a 4.5 / 5 auction rating.  Car has 59000km and I couldn't be any more stoked.  I'm sure I'll be seeking tons of guidance with this new car.  I already want to purchase a 440 Rob tune and start buying parts for the 550 tune but I'll probably hold off until car shows up.  But then again, I have caught the mod bug again so we will see what happens.  Here are some pictures for now until car lands in Canada.

Congrats, looks super clean!

Thanks.. I'm just reading through JDMVIP forum and Robs Tune thread and getting good info, some from you about the injector install.  Tonight I ordered for an ECU from Rob (440) and hopefully can drop it in soon after I get car.  Then start picking up parts for the 550 tune.

I think I will feel better digging in and getting my hands dirty with this car, more so then my 2008 Wrx which was my only car at the time.  Now if something takes an extra day to put in, I can sit on it.

Congrats on the new ride. Looks clean.

Thanks.  Wish I could say the same about your Forester, but judging from your profile picture, it is quite the opposite  ;)

Touchee!

By the way,  I love Foresters.  I was checking them out  as well at the auctions  but couldn't find a decent 5 speed.

Congrats on your purchase.
Ive often contemplated grabbing one of these to mess around with, but decided to keep the wagon and mess around with it and just buy a newer DD.
Enjoy!

Thanks man

I plan on keeping my 2008 wrx as my DD and it's tons of fun in winter so hopefully I can keep the km low and the value high with this car.

First parts for this car are already in and I'm assuming the car will still be a little ways away.  How long has everyone else waited to get their JDM cars from William?

Rob has shipped out my 440 ECU today so I'll be on the watch for that in the mail now.  Gonna rock that for a while, make sure car is solid, then upgrade to the 550 in the future.  As you can see, I'm already stock piling parts.  I even have a set of coils on hold from Yvan.  Since Carl Davey no longer is in business, I have found a few options for my adapters for the injectors.

Not sure which kit would work best.

Congrats, looks like a great find!  Diggin' those rims ;)

It doesn't take too long, I had some shipping delays and it was right around 2 months to land in Vancouver.

Thanks.  I'm totally digging the rims as well  ;D (just now seen your car pic)!  I only hope the car is as solid as it seems

Rob has shipped out my 440 ECU

Judging by those pictures those look like 550 injectors, but your post says he is sending a 440 tune.
Is his 550 tune not meant to be paired with the 550cc injectors?

You are correct cmyles

I'm gonna sit on the 440 tune for a while.  Make sure car is all good and stock pile parts, then send ecu back to him for the 550 tune.  Maybe next summer.  I just thought these injectors were a good price since they came  with the rebuild / flow test for $224 included.  Saves me having to pay for injectors and then pay again for the service.  Seller was pushing these injectors for the Nissan SR20DET / KA24DE crowd on kijiji.  But they are the OEM STi 550 injectors.  HE also gave me a bit of a break on his selling price since I seen his Ebay add was advertising 5-15% off.

The retune is only 45 bucks for old customers.

I think what Cmyles is getting at is, won't you have issues if the ECU thinks it has 440cc injectors and you actually have 550cc? Example: injector duty of 80% on the 550's would be 100% on the 440's. I'm not Airboy, but I think you're gonna have a bad time if you do that.

Sorry for the confusion.  When I say sit on them, I mean that I'm not going to  install them and leave my 440s in until I'm ready for the swap.  :)

Ahhhh well that would make more sense. I was under the impression you were getting all gun ho to install the 550's. Carry on

Thank you Yvan.  My other good news is I'm finally getting my 2008 Wrx back from First Gear on Wednesday.  Waited forever for Subaru to send replacement AVCS / Turbo oil feed line.

Car in currently being loaded on rail car en route to William at JDM Connection for my OPI.  Picked up a few parts that were delivered today  :)

I guess I could have choose to sell the ECU coming in my STI locally for more money, but I have decided to send it to Rob for a credit so he can get
another ready for a waiting customer.  My wait time was not that long and I'm sure I will make someone happy with my choice.

I now have a horde of parts that I will need to get painted and I'm still waiting for delivery of car.  Over sized scoop, fog light covers, the lower side skirts, and.............

The version 5 wing is in amazing shape and i got it for a steal of a deal.  I guess seller had like 40 people email her after I committed to buying it.

Man, I thought I was bad. I have Everything from Coilovers and wheels to interior and wing stiffies sitting in shopping carts on 6 or 7 websites, just waiting to get a Ver 6 STi Type RA, but you're just going all out. Keep the orange. will totally set off the silver  :sarcasm:

I own a small small 2 bedroom condo... lets just say my walk in closet is more of a storage shed these days.  I really like the Speedline rims as well and considers it a total bonus that they were on the car.
It's kinda sad though that I leave for work on Monday for a month so car will sit with William at JDM Connection until I get back.  I am getting excited though.

I'm gonna hit up suspension and handling upgrade next but will need to make more money for car parts!!  :o
