SpdDmn's new FXT - rather less shiny... (RIP)
« on: September 03, 2014, 02:38:27 pm »
My WRX went out in a blaze of glory a few weeks ago (August 7th), with over 300,000km on the engine and body, so I needed a new all-around car. I've always been a fan of the Forester as a daily and dog hauler, after having briefly had a 2004 FXT back in Ontario. And since Subarus are basically Lego sets, virtually all of my WRX go-fast bits could swap over!

I picked up my OBP 5MT 2007 Forester XT at the Saskatoon Kia dealership on August 15th, flying in and driving it home. It had 139,600 km, and was farm-dirty but rust free, slightly smoking after my test drive, and with the typical Forester soft brakes and suspension. SOLD! ;D To pass OOP, I needed the oil pan resealed (no more smoke!), cracked fog lights replaced, and overtorqued wheel studs on 3 of 4 wheels replaced - nothing too shocking, thankfully.

Drove it stock for 2 whole weeks, until this past weekend when I headed up to Red Deer to get all my WRX parts moved over to the FXT.

And so it begins....

WRX parts install day:
TD04 bolts giving grief

VF34 installed!

Rearview - Q300 and swaybar. Fired up and running after install!

And then we went to Canmore:   (spot the Aussie in these pics :P)

I have a few plans to get this car back to a hot daily driver and possible autoX car (until I can afford a dedicated race car). I love the FXT's potential, that the uninitiated don't even realize when they see it on the street! Need to solidify the power mods with a different axleback and Sunny's protune magic; then survive winter, and acquire the XT Sports front end likely next spring.

Looks good. Should bring it out to a Timmies meet.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Great looking Foz.

What did you end up doing with your WRX? Or did I miss it somewhere?

Wow! Wasted no time transferring parts over!  Your new Foz looks amazing with the struts and Grids. This is everything I wish I could do if I had an XT.

what fate befalls your WRX?

Sold the WRX to Mike in Red Deer. It's going to get a new engine and as far as I know, be sold pretty much stock.

Don't make me think about the little rex any more :'(  He's living on in the foz!

I see black and I feel "Darkness", but then, I see Rachel's black FXT and for some reason "Duck Dodgers in the 25th and half century" springs to mind.

Hence, "Duckness"

That's kind of appropriate as there's a kind of amphibious look from the front end (although not as much as the next gen).  But that will be remedied with the sports bumper.

Very clean Fozzy. Are you going to be in the Quary Park Park and Polish tomorrow or just volunteering? Also I second bringing it out to one of the weekly timmies meets.

Both! I registered the WRX, so I will be under "Rachel McLean: 2002 Subaru WRX" :)

Might make a timmies meet before the snow, but it's such an awkward time. Bust assay home 4-5pm, drive back to Calgary 6-7pm. Bleh.

Duckness, sounds cute... I dont' even remember that cartoon, is it possible it was before my time? That happens pretty rarely these days! :P

Amphibious! Noooo! Now I'm even more motivated to pick up the front end conversion..

Big day yesterday - got tuned by Sunny (Airboy) at Vex!

The FXT put down 257 whp and 300 wtq, running 18 psi of boost :D My intercooler and BOV were leaking, and not ideal for the tune, so it could make a little more if I switch to an STi topmount down the road.

On the dyno:

Also got my JDM v7 STi scoop installed, along with spark plugs and an oil change, in preparation for the tune:

No more spending on the car. After I buy the Invidia G200 catback.

Why do you want the G200?  For the burnt tip?  I think the Q300 looks great :)

The G200 comes in FXT fitment! And no burnt tip, just the same size/ shape muffler and tip as the Q300. I could modify the Q300 by extending it, but then it would be unsellable to anyone but FXT owners...

Found out today it's back ordered until early October, so I'll be rocking the Q300 for a while yet :(

Great numbers!  I hope to get my FXT over to Airboy sometime soon.  Probably before my Wagon makes it, which is sad but still exciting at the same time haha!  Your FXT is looking real good, unfortunetely I know all about swirls in black as well.  My 04 JBP Wagon looks good from far but it needs a good makeover too.
