Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner?
« on: September 15, 2014, 03:54:59 pm »
Afternoon,

Can anyone suggest any heavy duty wheel cleaner? My factory silver BBS wheels are covered in bits of tar, and have quite a yellow tint from years of brake dust. The previous owner used these wheels for winter and I am continuing to do the same. I would love to get them looking good again. I have tried Meguires hot wheels cleaner on them but its not strong enough.

Any ideas that will speed up the cleaning process?

Thanks

Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner, Griots Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner, 1z Colortec Wheel Cleaner, CarPro Iron X ect. Essentially any good wheel cleaner you can buy at a dedicated automotive detailing store(Carzilla for the Calgary folk) will do the trick.

Half the battle is making sure you have the right brushes to remove the grime as the product needs to be agitated. Also if your wheels are really caked you may need to clean them a few times.

Once you have the wheels spotless it doesn't hurt to apply some sort of protection to repel contaminants and make them easier to clean in the future.

Thanks I will give one of those a try!
Luckily there is not brake does caked on but they do have a bit of a yellow stain to them. Plus speckled with tar and junk.

You might want to pick up a tar remover as well. My recommendation is CarPro TarX or Stoners Tarminator.

On top of those suggested cleaners, I've taken old clay bars to my wheels in the past with good results.  Afterwards, give them a nice coat of wheel wax and call it a day :D

Yep.. once you've spic n spanned them, hit them with some Poorboys World wheel sealant to make them easier to clean.

Awesome product.  I use them on my 04 STI BBS's once every two years.
They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?

Use a good sealant or better yet use a semi permanent coating such as CarPro Dlux.

Yeeeea. Good call on the clay/sealant.

I got a bottle of Dlux I'm going to try on the Mini's winter wheels. I'll post up in the detailing thread.

You will be really happy with Dlux. I have used it on wheels and trim and it is a fantastic product.
