Trans issues
« on: March 16, 2015, 12:02:46 pm »
I have a 2000 forester with a bad trans slips and front diff is making noise another issue. I purchased a 1998 that needed an out of province knowing it would never pass. aka parts vehicle. Finally got around to look at it and has a different trans number the 2000 has a TZ1A3ZC2AA AND the 1998 has a TZ103ZJ1AA. I looked around the internet and forums with no info if the older trans can be used. If anyone has any info please let me know. Thanks

It looks like Subaru changed from the "Phase 1" 4EAT to the "Phase 2" 4EAT sometime in MY99.

At the very least, the TCUs are different.

Do you know what the final drive ratios are of the two boxes? I would assume both Foresters are 4.11, but you should make sure.

Looks like this guy tried to put a Phase 1 4EAT into a Phase 2 99 Outback:

Final drive is 4.44 on the 97-98 T/TB's and S/TB's - I have the same transmission (that 98 with that code) that you are talking about. The gear ratios are also different from the 98 transmission to the 2000 one you bought. I don't know the final drive ratio on the 2000 one you bought.

Unfortunately that's all I can 100% tell you.

Oh, and yes, there is literally no information on the transmission any where.

PS - You should sell the 2000 and by my 97. That parts car you purchased is identical to my car and is completely different than the 2000 you have (different engine, trans, axles, diffs) ;)

I'm curious, but how much do you want for the tranny, engine, axles, drive shaft, and rear diff?

Keep in mind I know how much you got it for if this was the one at Pick and Pull (I'm 99% sure it is).
