Jackal's Project Biene. BMW 135i (RIP)
« on: March 17, 2015, 10:24:48 am »

As many of you know,  I have had to sell my Beatrice before I even got to fully finish her  :-[.  Life changes recently forced me to find a car to drive year round as the shared cars were being liquidated.

I’ve decided to go a very different route with the new car. One that affords me the comfort I want while driving while also giving me the ability to race again. This led down a couple directions for me,  but BMW was always on my mind.  Little did I know there was another WSC member out there looking for the same car…….

I managed to find a slightly higher mileage  2008 (edited in) 135is (Canadian) optioned the way I wanted and looking near mint despite the mileage.  This will be the story of Biene.

Biene has all the packages I was looking for and a whole list of ones I was fortunate to get.  The main packages for me were;

M Sports Package
M Sports Suspension
Comfort Access
Lights Package

To date I have only ordered an Access Port for her,  and will be getting it tuned to stage one for the time being.  There are plans for more in the future, but until life starts sorting itself out, the AP is about the only mod for a while.

EDIT

Planned Mods list

Cobb AP for street use
Enkei Kojin's in 8.5 and 9.5
71rs' to match
Subframe bushings Purchased
Diff Bushings Purchased
Trans Bushings
Suspension setup
Slotted Rotors
Better Brake pads

There will be more pics as the thread goes on,  but here are the pics from the date of purchase.

My Friend Checking how it fits.  She even got to drive it first.

What year?
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

I think he said it was a 2008.

I didn't see that, but that explains why he's already doing an AP.

You didn't see it because I forgot to put it in.  It's been added now though.  Yes it is a 2008,  and I liked the fact that 2008-2011 can have the AP.  I'm familiar with the product and comfortable with it's use.  I'll be getting a tune done on the map for race as well as a daily street tune for optimal Economy/Power.

Some more Pics.

Already looking at wheels too!

It is unfortunate that Biene isn't one of these though.

Yes,  It's the Manual.  I like the idea of the Auto and paddles,  but I just cant get past the need to be able to grab gears the old way.

Thanks.

What summer tire size are you aiming for?  18" wheels I assume?

Correct.  18's.  What have you got laying around your shops?

Yeah, what are the tire plans? The 135i is pretty limited for space up front, no?

Could run 245 square: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=636422

or go down to 17s and run 245 square with way cheaper tires. :D

PS. Nice beard.

I've got nothing currently, but I have a spare set of tail lights you can have for free if you want.

I ran 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 Dunlop Z1 on 18X8.5 and 18X9.5 VMR V710 on mine when I had it.

Admittedly the search is only just beginning.  I like the idea of staying with the 18's and really loved my Dunlop Durezza Star Specs on Betty.  I haven't dug in,  but I don't think the sizing will work out for me there though.

PS.  Thanks lol

I wouldn't mind getting a bit more shoe up front.  Any rubbing issues with this setup?

No rubbing issues.  I wanted more tire as well but never tried.  245 square is what I would do if I went back.  Also do you know about pulling the upper alignment pins to add some camber?

Quote
OE wheels, what are the biggest tires that will fit them?
225/40/18 is the widest size that will correctly fit the front 7.5"wheels and 255/35/18 is the widest correct fitting size for the rear 8.5". The sizes both fit the vehicle with no rubbing.
235/40/18 and 265/35/18 are sizes that will fit the vehicle but they will require a minimum of an 8" wheel in the front and a 9" wheel in the rear.

Of course, you can kerflupple with this by changing offsets and camber.
...and rolling.

I would figure out what you want to do, then buy wheels that support it.

Square setup on stock suspension, 245/40/17. Standard racekar tire size.

Thanks for the links Snax.  I had seen them before,  but it's great to have them linked here so I don't have issues finding them.

I'm already looking to make my ride a bit more comfortable.  These radios in BMW's are horrible.  I'm looking to replace the stock radio with one that will work with my iphone a bit better.  I'm thinking of a double din radio,  but I'll need a plate to relocate the heating system. This requires a new console face to relocate the radio.  I need the stock radio for the bong features that BMW loves so much though.  There are tricks to the whole radio swap,  and those are getting my attention first.  I may as well enjoy the drive since I finally have a daily driver again.

Thanks Brother.  So far I'm loving it.  Access port came in yesterday and so the first official mod will be a Stage1 map.
