This season, the mr2 is gonna run as is, where is, how is, no shiz... as soon as it's going.
Next season, I'm gonna try and class out the mr2 as Street Prepared, providing that a 3sge swap falls under the rules... I starting on page 103 aaaand then I became confused.
http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/assets/2015-5-19_SCCA_Solo_Rules_book_online_reduced.pdfI mean, I think it falls under that catagory, but I could be completely wrong.
The engine I've had luck finding with reasonable price tags on them, is a 3SGE Beams Blacktop; 200 horses, twin variable valves, 2.0L, high red line. Toyota reliability with basic services backed by several drifters. Perfect. Mounts up with my trans, flywheel and clutch. Just needs minor modifications to the engine mounts to make it work (the car mounts are going to be the same).
Asides from the engine that needs to be fixed, I have a couple other things that require addressing:
- My friend wanted my long hub and assembly, he took that, and then proceeded to bend my steering wheel >.< So I'm also gonna need to find a short hub and assembly for that, as well as a steering wheel to replace it. Hopefully the bunk Celica's steering wheel will fit.. I mean, toyota has only ever used the parts bin, right? I find the same hazard switch in my brother's truck, the mr2, all he way up to a 2007 Taco...
- Make the Fiesta ST Recaros fit into this thing. Actually, after sitting in the fiesta st recaros, I'm now on the fence about them. They don't grip as nicely as the Evo recaros, but anything is better than the stock church pews that are in there. Deliberation is required here.
- As for the body... what body? I'm gonna try my best to stiffen the chassis via running a tube down the remainder of my pinch points, in hopes that there's actually any weldable surfaces left there, and come winter, I'll start with only the best techniques of hack and slash to clear the rust away and put on the widest of fender flare/homemade body kits to house the obsurd type of tire that I'm looking for. Only after I pass the inspection though so it's road legal. And then gps speedo as those tires are likely not going to be stock size.
Is it overkill? No, it's Roadkill. Putting way too nice of junk into way too crappy of a car.
