2015 Mazda CX5 - New Vehicle Prep + Paint Coating
« on: April 12, 2015, 10:13:25 am »
A good family friend contacted me with some concerns about brown spots all over the paint that could not be washed off. The vehicle is a 2015 Mazda CX5 that is roughly 6 months old.

After a quick vehicle inspection it was determined that the vehicle was heavily contaminated in rail dust/fallout. This just goes to show that even though the vehicle is "new" it still needs to be properly detailed. The vehicle was extensively decontaminated, and prepared for a long lasting permanent paint coating.

Process
Exterior:
Wheels: Griots Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner with various brushes
Tires: Zep Formula 505 Cleaner & Degreaser
Wheel Wells: Zep Citrus Cleaner (4:1)
Pre-wash: CG Citrus Wash & Gloss & APC via foam cannon
Wash: Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine via Microfiber towels
Decontamination 1: Sonax Fallout Cleaner & CarPro Trix
Decontamination 2: CarPro Ultra Fine Clay
Dry: Waffle Weave Towels
Surface Prep: IPA Wipedown
Paint Protection: Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0
Tire Dressing: Tuf Shine Tire Clearcoat
Trim Dressing: Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant
Glass: Sonax Clear Glass via Glass Towel

Total Time: 4.5 Hours

Before Photos:

The vehicle arrived relatively clean considering it is used a daily driver and went through an Alberta winter.

The exhaust was in need of a light polish.

Wheels & Tires need a good cleaning

Iron Dust / Fallout contamination covered the entire vehicle.

More fallout contamination and tar.

During Photos:

Started with the wheels and tires first. Notice that the wheel cleaner turns purple when it reacts with iron and the brown residue coming out of the tires.

Vehicle was chemically decontaminated TWICE. The first time was with Sonax Fallout Cleaner and the second time with CarPro Trix.

Once the vehicle was chemically decontaminated the vehicle was rinsed and foamed.

The foam was left to dwell for a few minutes and then the vehicle was rinsed. The vehicle was washed using Optimum No Rinse with microfiber towels and then the vehicle was gently clayed.

Here is my clay after doing the drivers side door.

Once the vehicle was clayed the vehicle was prepped for Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 paint coating. This coating is permanent and only can be removed by polishing the paint. Users of this product have claimed  over 4 years of durability when properly cared for.

Those wheels look especially good, as if they had some extra love. ;)

Thanks for the help and kind words. It seems like I have done my fair share of white cars recently. I keep noticing fallout and tar on every white vehicle i see. :P
