Yep, thanks AJ. I grabbed a set of punches for the job but like you said, not enough room to properly swing the hammer.
I'll keep at it. Eventually my weak arms will grow and she'll come loose.

Oh and cagare, yes, both engines are from 1992-93 civic si, so both are d16z6 vtec I4.

Keeping it stock.

For now.

We'll see. We just really want to get her up and running.

After a few races we'll have s better idea of the areas that need improving, the re-read the rules and pick a class.

Not doing the same mistake I did with my Subie : Ie: Mod-race-boom.
This time ima do it for realz.
Race-race-boom-mod.

Do all used red Civics come with spare motors these days?  Something something don't blow up all the time?

Yeah, the reason we decided to go STS with our car is 2 fold.  The suspension needed new bushings, and the car is not that competitive in stock class.  We were going to rebuild suspension and stock class would not allow for stiffer bushings.  The stock bushing replacements would last forever considering how much the car would be driven.

Modifying the car fo STS is mostly suspension work.  No go boom unless you start raising the rev limiter which is what you want to do with these motors.  Only go boom in SM, if you boost the motor

Yeah, when I said boom, I meant when something break's not necessarily engine problems. For example, one of your reasons for moving up to STS was to replace the suspension as it was worn.... which is exactly what we will do if anything is deemed wrecked or fatigued. But as it stands, the car doesn't even move so much the clutch is gone, so we have no idea how she handles.

As mentioned before, we will race it a few times, and then figure out where we need to go / what needs to be done.

Who knows,. we might join you in sts sooner than we think.  ;D

But truthfully, doesn't matter how competitive the car is right now as one of the drivers in our two driver team (caugh caugh .... me) is pretty useless behind the wheel at the track. I only have one autox under my belt and just need practice.

Old honda's are literally the best. I'm uckfaying drowning in nostalgia over here.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Well, the itchbay pin is still not moving. uckfaying thing be TIGHT.  O0

So my options are:
1) Keep whaling at it
B) take the engine out with the whole shifter linkage on.
iii) Drill the pin out.

I don't have much patience so I might just pull the whole engine with the shift linkage on.

Drilling the pin out would involve me needing to stand in line at the honda dealership and pay $29 for a new pin.

Is the pin retained inside a bushing or is it just a spring pin like on a Subaru gear linkage?

Maybe you can use a blue wrench.

Honda's are new to me but my understanding is that its a spring pin like on a Subaru gear linkage

Question. Do any of the honda autoxers NOT have a spare engine?
Hell, Grant doesn't even autox his civic and he has one.

Well, on tuesday i told myself, today is honda engine swap day. Finally got the itchbay pin out. Just had to man up and raise the car a bit for more swinging too and wack it out. It looked brand new once it came out.

Also, serial numbers confirm both engines are d16z6. So 1992 SI.  ^-^

Then we proceeded to take out the axles out of the transmission which required us to loosen the ball joints to gain enough room to pull them out.

Overall, I'm amazed at how well everything is coming apart. Well maintained car.
We then loosened all the mounts (holy itshay there are a lot!!), then swing over the hoist and attach it to where we thought was a good spot (lol). Then up she goes.

So even though its just a tiny little 4 banger, I felt its s very looong engine, especially with the transmission still attached and it was a little awkward to pull. The engine bay is tight and you need to remove one of the engine mounts completely just for the engine to be able to come out. Just need to find better mounting spots for the hoist next time and I'm sure it'll go faster.
Finished pulling the engine by 10:30 Tuesday night.

Also, here is s pic of the general area where we worked...
 ;)

Aaaand mandatory empty engine bay pic.

Last night (wednesday) I swapped the wiring harness from the current engine to the new one (as it didn't come with it).
Everything is more or less connected but not tightened (self note).
Hope to be able to finish it tonite and drop it in so I can return the hoist to its owner.

So, wednesday night i tackled the wiring harness. The new engine was missing it.
So i took my time and pulled it carefully and took pictures of everything i unbuttoned.
Pic Mid Progress.

While I was pulling the fuel rails to transfer over, I checked the injectors..

Then I cleaned them up as well as the orings.

I also changed the spark plug to distributor wiring. Current ones are OEM... From 1992!!!!! Hahaha.

We also removed the Ractive aftermarket header as we want to keep everything stock...

And replaced it with the old stock one.

It was unfortunate to take off the beautiful header but it will reappear on the other engine sitting in my garage that we will rebuild over the winter. Once we race the car a bit and know which class we want to compete in... We'll build/mod accordingly.

Now that everything was more or less buttoned up, the new engine was ready to be dropped in.

So Wednesday Zac joined me and we started here.

Then brought this little guy over.

Then proceeded to slowly lower it.

Then badabing badaboom.

Started plugging back in a bunch of stuff. Still have a few loose ends such as coolant, oil, steering, exhaust, axles, rr-attach the hubs, replace brakes, flush fluids. Then replace the windshield, and she should be good for inspection.

This is how I left her.

LOL. Well, didnt touch this thing in over amonth. :(

Why you ask???? Life happened.
Was busy doing house renos, then landscaping. Got the house exactly how I want it. Then the wife told me she wanted a bigger house... :o
Our life has been pretty consumed with house buying stuff.
Step 1: Start house shopping
Step2: Miss out on a few gems and decide to get a realtor to speed up the process.
Step 3:Found a house with everything on my list (Location, huge lot, double detached / insulated and heated garage (FOR ME AND ME ONLY) with a attached single garage for the wife. Thats right. Three car garage AWWWWW YISSSSSS. :)
Step 4: Since this is a buyers market and house sat on market for a month... Put a low ball offer on it.
Step 5: after a bit of haggling, actually got it  :o  :o  :o.

This week have been busy with home inspection and begin various banks to lend me money. :( PS: breaking a mortgage is stupid expensive. Anyone wanna rent my house in Ritchie?

All this to say I have been too busy to even think about the civic.
Hopefully in a couple weeks I get time to finish it.
Just need a couple small things fixed and fix up rust and do a bit of cheap bodywork and then its inspection time. A full 2 months behind schedule but hey, life happens.
Plus that damned Zac works crazy stupid hours! uckfayer. Live a little.
Lets get this itshay DONE!!!!

Same problems we ran into with Ginger, life does get in the way.  We ended up having to pay to get a good majority of it done in time for the season.
