Koni's are the cheap man's solution, but they work just fine.  If you want high end, then you want Penske or Moton (for a *lot* more money):

If you aren't into autocrossing, then the OEM shocks work just fine.  For street driving, you probably won't want any of these shocks.

When set to full soft, the re-valved Konis give a better ride on the street than the OEM shocks.

Koni's are good on the street, Penske and Moton, not so much. Which is what Murray was linking up in the second and third link.

The Koni's are a slight improvement over OEM for street driving, but not enough (IMO) to make it worth the expense.  Where they shine is autox; you get to dial in the handling you want, and there is a larger "sweet spot" of maximum grip.

I won't but Cole and I are planning on coming to the last event this season for a shake down.  I have...another driving event this weekend.

So if I understand this correctly, what you're saying is that tires make a difference on how a car preforms?

I did get a chance to take a few corners late last night on the way home though, and it felt pretty neutral with the current setup and very grippy.  Of course there's not a lot to tell on the street until I can get it out to auto x and assess it.  I am leaning towards leaving the OEM shocks in for now to save money.

I would agree.  Shocks don't make a huge difference over the very good OEM ones.  It is an improvement, but it is subtle (on most courses).  You are a good enough driver to make use of them, but you can do pretty well without.

Well, they make a huge difference if the struts are blown and bouncing around like a 5 year old with pixie sticks and no Ritalin...

In that case, the Konis are cheaper than OEM replacements (and better).

Good idea, I don't have shocks in my STi. This will keep things fair in BS for next year.   :D

For my reference, the car weighed in at 1330kg yesterday with half a tank of fuel, myself and gear in it.

Also perhaps Reijo can comment (if he's on WSC) on how the car felt when he rode with me once at an event yesterday.

Also I find the side to side transitions feel sloppy and rolly to me now, I am sure if its tire sidewall flex, or shocks that are weak, or just the OEM springs not being stiff enough.

Also I am not sure I am a fan of the RE71R for my driving style, I feel like the sidewalls are stiffer on the Z2 I have used, and the RE71R seemed to go off after three quick runs in succession of a ~56 second course.

I find the RE71Rs to be softer than the Z2s -- a bit sloppier and "rollier".  And I also need a lot more pressure to control rollover (39/38 instead of 36/35).  I fully agree with you about their going off too soon.  Those things need water, even in 10 degree weather :(  Sigh, the penalty we pay for extra grip...

Will be bringing the sprayer this weekend for sure then.  I have been watching S2000 track day videos this afternoon, I can't wait to get this thing up to Castrol next year (not on RE71R though).

What are the rules regarding shift knobs in Street class?  Does it fall under comfort and convenience or do I need to stay with the factory one?  I would really like to get another Raceseng one.

Comfort and convenience, as long as you don't remove it.
If the sea was vodka, and I was a duck.
I would swim to the bottom, and drink my way up.
But the sea isn't vodka, and I'm not a duck.
So give me the vodka, and stfu.

Excellent.  I do like the factory one but I want to support Raceseng and I found their stuff to be like works of art.

Far as I remember, shift knob is cosmetic, short throw is class changing.

Slightly off topic but are shifter bushings class changing?
