Hi everyone,

We are in the process of creating some winter tire and wheel packages for the Subaru community, and we interested to hear what everyone is looking for?  Tire sizes, brands, wheel options etc?  Please discuss here or PM me so we can get an idea of what people are interested in.

Thanks,

James Callaghan

What tires brands do you carry? For wheel options are you offering hub centric steelies?

We have access to pretty much any tire brand, including Nokian.  I need to confirm if the steelies available are hubcentric.

My guess is that most people are either looking for top tier studded or studdless tires

These are the tires that I would be mostly interested in.

Studded:
Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8
Gislaved Nord Frost 100

Non-Studded
Nokian R2
Bridgestone WS80

Perhaps you have an opinion as well?

Agree with you, 3 out of the 4 tires you have listed I have already sold/quoted for this season for customers.

Nokians. I don't want to buy them from Kal-Tire.

Id be interested in a set of Michelin X-ICE XI3 tires. (215/50 R17)

If I were to to go studded, i would probably have to go the popular route and get a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8's. (Also 215/50 R17) I used a set of these tires at ice racing one time in the Laggin Wagon, and they preformed decently well on the lake.

Any reason why you want to get the Michelins over the Bridgestones?

The Bridgestones are cheaper(I think )and have better performance reviews.

I heard the bridgestones are more expensive, but i could be wrong. Just going off my gut.

I've heard really good things about the Xi3's. Very good preformance on snow and ice (I've experienced these tires in an rt4wd on ghost lake, they are shockingly good for a studless tire on sheer ice), and better preformance on asphalt and longer tread life.

I had the WS60's before I went Gislaved, they were fantastic in deep snow, but I wish they were studded. I ended up replacing them with the Gislaved Nordfrost 100's which I bought from Spec R.

We can get Gislaved Nordfrost 100 both studded and non studded.

A rough price for a common 17" tire  added to the main post of this thread would be be nice for a basic price comparison.

Nokian Hakk8 studded
Nordfrost 100 studded
Nokian R2
Bridgestone WS80
Michelin Xi3
2003 Mazda Miata
2015 WRX Build
2004 Forester XT Build

Michelin Xi3

I will be doing something like that soon.

I'll be opting for some 16" SUV Hakka 8's studded this year, potentially with Rims. I'm debating between getting some sort of cheap rim for winters, or having winters mounted on my stock rims, and getting something cheap a/m for summer.

I want to do ice racing next year; therefore I'm looking for the cheapest possible studded tires that will fit onto 17"x7" (stock rims for '07 WRX, OEM tire size was 215/45R17) OR onto 16"x6.5" (stock rims for 97-04 Legacy, OEM tire size was 205/55R16).

If the cheapest studded tires that fit onto either of those rims are super skinny width, that's fine so long as the overall diameter of tire+rim remains roughly 25" like OEM spec.
