The seats are uninstalled now ;D But made for a fun install video, and they lasted a week of driving with an airbag light on haha...

I actually really dig the look of these seats, but I agree that they look somewhat off in a newer WRX. Perhaps they'd fit nicely in a GC ;)

If you raffle them off, i'd be interested in taking part in that. Alternatively, if you have an extra good WSC non-mooch seeming discount special price you can offer, let me know 8)

Got the 3 year old yellow stained 3M removed from my WRX this week, and new Suntek self healing installed! Very stoked with it!

I had a ton of rail dust contamination (even after Iron-X'ing) and TAR from the construction in my area last summer. Traditional clay is best, but I had a lot of surface area to cover and wanted to get it done fairly quick, so I went with a Nanoskin medium clay mitt. It worked awesome, picked up all the contamination quickly. I wouldn't use this on black or dark paint, and you need to correct afterwards forsure (as some more scratched can be introduced with the clay mitt.)

I was inspire by 10Sec's recent progress and weekends of wrenching I finally decided to tackle my ever building list of to-do's on the WRX. Mainly 'fixing' electrical things, but also a few new cosmetics to add that I was waiting for Spring/ nice weather to come for. It sure was nice having the Garage door open with the sun shining in, drinking a coffee, and working on the cars. It was even more nice having someone else there with me sharing the same interest in wrenching on the cars for the weekend. A big thank you to wrx.bae and jrchan98 for all their help and company over the weekend.

The list was a bit overwhelming...

Bumper comes off.. Oh how much I hate 3 year old plastic bumper clips. Those are replaced. Bought all new OEM ones from Subaru ;D Worth the cost when I put them all back in!

It wouldn't be a day working in the garage unless I break a bolt. Second bolt in a month. Woo!
Untitled by SHPIXX, on Flickr

Began pulling itshay out. The 22" Light Bar I had in there served it's purpose for the 6 months I was driving up and down to Three Hills at 1am / 5am. Useless in the fog, but proved useful in the winter particularly. I lost count of the number of wildlife encountered I had, thankful to have had this. I don't want it anymore though, and I don't do that drive. Plus, the Bluetooth controller failed so I couldn't control the brightness anymore (moisture.)

Note the Fire Extinguisher for safety. Those that know, know. ;D ;D ;D

So the biggest problem I was having was that I had about 16 various connectors / T Taps / Vampire clips in the setup. Over time they got loose and when I would drive over bumps in the road, my lights would do wonky things like the switchback would randomly blink on, or the light would flicker and go out. Yes, I know, they're terrible. I should have soldered properly from the beginning and saved myself the hassle. But part of my contracts with some of these parts was that I had to install them with the materials provided by the companies to show the 'plug n play' ability. In hindsight, I should have done so, but also shown an alternative after the fact of soldering + heat shrinking, etc.

Many of the wires had corrosion on the copper. So I cleaned them in a vinegar bath, then rinsed in a baking soda mix to balance back out. Cleaned them up and let them dry overnight. The next day I began the soldering and shrinking. Didn't snap any photos, but did some videos!

After a long day, I had everything functioning flawlessly... So stoked! Also put the front lip + splitter back in place.

Man, you have nice writing.  Super off-topic, did you have good teachers?  Your parents made you practice?  Just transfer from natural artistic ability?

My student's writing looks like crap, and so does my son's :(

Love the shot with the reflection and the one of Sunny's car.

;D Thanks Jonny! Funny thing is you're the third person this week to say my writing was nice but I never thought that, to me it looks so scribbled down. I write a lot neater when doing notes in meetings / writing on things for work. Parents or teachers - nope, neither that I can remember, but I've  always felt it looked like chicken scratch haha..

and thank you, I'm really loving the Sony 16-35 F4 lens and the water reflection shot was one of my favs. Ray's featured it on their Instagram which was cool!

Did she have her front and rear bumpers painted or is that just the new car thing where the match is whack? IE reflection and car wash pictures.
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

Thanks, I hate it.

Someone was mentioning to me the metal vs plastic thing, as well as sometimes the bumpers are painted in different factories.

Drove the Subie up to Edmonton last weekend for the 780 Season Opener show with a few others! It was my first time at the show, and it was pretty crazy with 900 cars / spaces. I was actually surprised how quickly and easily we managed to get out of there, someone ended up lifting a tape barrier for a bunch of cars leaving so we just slid out the side in less than a minute ;D

Some new stuff, I'm pretty content with the WRX right now! I'd consider going to auto-x once or twice this summer with it if I can make time! Only thing I still need to do now is side-skirts, brake rotors/ pads, and the gold hardware all around (which I want to anti sieze nicely so I don't break things later on).

Also considering doing transmission + rear diff. fluids again as it's been almost another 60,000km's since I did that last!

I got 10Sec to drive my WRX this past weekend while I hung my camera out the window of another car to nail these shots. I'm really stoked with them!

Change my brake rotors + pads this past weekend. Replaced with 'new' (used) OEM rotors from 10Sec's car (before he upgraded his brakes so they have low km's) and Hawk Pads. First time doing brakes and some of the bolts didn't want to cooperate. I found the best method was a 1ft long breaker and a mallet to tap (awkward angles in the wheel well) and get them loose. I anti-seized everything afterwards. Took me about 4 hours which I know is longer than most but I felt pretty good and accomplished afterwards!! ;D

Rear pads were significantly lower than the fronts. I'd say the fronts still had about 40% to 50% remaining, while the rears looked like this. After chatting some other VA owners, this could perhaps be due to the torque / brake vectoring technology in the '15+'s. I want to research a bit more on that and see, because even one side of the brakes was slightly lower than the other (which perhaps could be related to taking right on/off ramps etc. more often.)

Your old pads are a great example as to why Subaru recommends servicing the brakes every other service.

I am pretty sure that torque vectoring is only applied to the front brakes. The rears wearing out faster than the fronts is a bit interesting. How were the caliper slides?

Quick google search says it's likely electronic brake proportioning that makes the rears wear out faster.

Yeah, some people on Nasioc are saying 'Torque vectoring' is actually just 'brake vectoring'.
(Reference; https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2713256 Post 10, 11, 12.)

I'd like to learn more about this, though. Not much online to research about the topic unfortunately :(

It is. Applies brake on inside wheel to slow it down relative to outside wheel and aid in turning.

It is disabled if you turn traction control off, I believe.

Yep these cars don’t have real torque vectoring (ie ability to power wheels side to side individually), it only had the ability to use the brakes individually to attempt to make the car turn in better.

Define "real". If it's good enough for McLaren road cars than I'll say its pretty "real'

McLaren chooses to use open diffs with brake based line tightening because they don’t believe the weight trade off is worth it to go to a “powered” electronic/mechanical diff that could accelerate wheels individually. I’ve driven vehicles with both systems and they both work, both have positives and negatives. Personally I find I prefer mechanical clutch pack style diffs without any computerized “torque vectoring” feel the most consistent and manageable.

If you want to break it down by dictionary definition, yes brake based systems are “vectoring” the car because it changes the angle of the car when applied (generally attempting to tighten a line in a corner) and yes you are changing the torque at the wheel by braking it individually. I use the term loosely based on what I feel most people refer to as “torque vectoring”.
